So the directions read to hand tighten + a 1/4 turn. So it seems like this mount is designed to not be taken off at all, , correct?

Not by hand; it's not a "quick release" mount.

Yep, it’s a “set and forget it” only take off for maintenance type of mount (in the sense that you’re going to need tools to remove it).

Supposedly has very good RTZ, though.

Yeah, though you could keep a small wrench with you if you really wanted to.

I normally just use Larue mounts if I want BUIS on the rifle. For taking my G mounts on/off I have a 65 in/lb torque limiter I use to make sure I get it tightened the same every time.

I have the Geissele Super Precision on the Vortex HD 1-6 and the Larue LT-104 on the Vortex HD-E 1-6.

I like the LT-104 better. It is less bulky and can be removed.
