Young Mfg still has plenty of chrome and parked AR and 16 carriers/assys in stock 2-3 week wait.  Why pay $175+ for used.

I noticed that they offer an AR-15 National Match Bolt Carrier/ Chrome w/Key and a M-16 National Match Bolt Carrier/ Chrome w/Key.

What's the difference (sorry, newby)?  Is it just that the M-16 is manufactured to stand up to full auto mode and the AR-15 is for semi?  If so, does the M-16 fit an AR-15?  Does it really matter which one I buy?

Thanks in advance for your patience with the new guy.

How long is it taking people to get these? I ordered a complete chrome bolt and carrier about a week ago. I left a comment to see if they had any in stock to email me. They haven't gotten back to me and haven't taken payment or given me a tracking number.

M16 carriers are built a little heavier and yes they fit in an semi. i find that the m16 carriers seem a little smoother feeling to me but no it doesn't really matter which one you buy, but i'm sure that someone will be along to tell me i'm wrong and that you will go to jail for using an m16 carrier.

I went with the 16 carrier for the weight.  Stoner designed it to work a certain way, not going to mess with how he intended.  Plus I wasn't sure if the AR carriers had the shrouded firing pin area.

Order placed on the 11th, I'll post when I get it.  When I talked to Steve a few weeks ago he had plenty of carriers, both, in stock.

The difference between the AR15 bolt carrier and the M16?  It is true that the M16 is heavier, but that is because there is a little more material toward the back on the bottom of the M16 carrier to allow it to trip the full auto sear.  You can take an M16 carrier and use it in your AR15 with no legal problems as the addition of the M16 carrier by itself does not allow your weapon to fire full auto via the slam fire method.  If you put in other fire control parts and use rounds with soft primers, you can get it to fire full auto without the full auto sear.  However, it is dangerous to do that.  The advantage of using an M16 bolt carrier over an AR15 bolt carrier for some brands such as Colt, is that on Colt's AR15 bolt carriers, they have the firing pin exposed to further interfere with your attempts to convert your weapon to full auto.  Having a covered firing pin prevents certain types of stoppages, so with a brand like Colt, you are better off with the M16 bolt carrier not because of the added weight, but because the firing pin is covered.  However, the Young Manufacturing bolt carriers have the covered firing pin on both the AR15 carrier and the M16 carrier.  So, with Young, you are good to go with either the AR or M16 bolt carrier, but it is true that the M16 does have a little more weight.

Think theres any chance of the cracked chrome flaking -you know to where it could gouge the upper or charging handle?

Just throwing out there that the young AR carriers DO have shrouded firing pins, and have so little material removed vs. an m16 carrier @ the rear that I'd say it's a negligible weight difference.

If you're not going to be using it in an M16 I really don't see any reason to avoid their AR15 carriers. Like I said, just throwing it out there...

I have one of their AR15 phosphate carriers that I really like and I just picked up a chromed one today from YM at the gunshow. Top notch machining.

I ordered two parked M16 bolt carriers 2/1.  They haven't charged my card yet.  I'm at least 2 weeks so far.  I had an email from them 2/2 which said "We thought you'd like to know that the status of your order has been changed from New Order to In Progress."  Haven't heard anything else yet, but I'm still within the time quoted on the website.  I'm hoping they ship this week!

Rainier Arms still has LMT M16 & AR15 BCG's in stock.  They are pricey,  but one of the best out there and
suited for 14.5" uppers and larger...

Sounds like their wait times are increasing.  I just checked my emails from 2/1 and 2/2.  I didn't have anything about shipping in mine.  (I did expect 2 - 3 weeks, and probably closer to 3 than 2.)

All I received was an email that my order had switched to "in progress." They haven't billed me or sent me a tracking order. It has been almost a solid week know, but I don't really care because I still need to find a Noveske Afgan in stock.

Poking around and found this tread.  I ordered a bolt carrier from Young on 26 Jan and got the order status change email next day as well.   I haven't been charged yet either.

Hope that helps guys figure out where they stand...

I ordered 2 bolt/carrier groups on Feb 11th.  Later that day got another email saying it was upgraded to "in-progress".   Waiting for further shipping info.  Still in the 2 to 3 weeks as they suggested.  2 to 3 weeks is nothing compared to waiting for CMP!   ;-)

Excellent.  I should have either bought the NM instead of the regular chrome or possibly not ordered on Friday the 13th!  Actually, my three weeks are not up until Friday, but I'm glad that you got your's so quickly!

FYI-
Received mine and it is FINE.  It IS staked.  They did state three weeks to ship in e-mail confirmation and beat that considerably which is underpromising and overdelivering in my book.  Good for them.

Order date       March 11, 2009
CC Charged     March 19, 2009
BCG Received March 25, 2009

Phosphate BCG with CMT Bolt  $155.00 plus shipping, two weeks computer to door- Way better than paying the "pirates" and sharks 200 for God-knows-what on the EE.  F-em.
