I have seen some nice carry cases on this board in misc. pictures. I want to build one that has custom cut outs for specific pieces in it...

Where do you start?

Where do you get the blank foam blocks?

Any tips/tricks?

Thanks

Pelican Cases sells their "pick n' pluck" foam separate, just pull out the foam in the shapes you want and to fit whatever container.

Go to the Slings and Other Accessories section.  You will find numerous threads on cases and custom cutouts.

Most guys use a serrated knife or electric kitchen knife to cut their foam and some recommend freezing it a while first to make the cutting easier.  Just trace your weapon/accessories with a piece of chalk, then cut very carefully.

Here is a specific link...
