While waiting for my RRA to arrive, I'd like to start assembling whatever tools I'll need. I already have a stripped lower and will be assembling it when the rest of the parts arrive. I have an armorers wrench and am curious what size punches to buy to insert the pins. I swear I saw a list of recommended tools somewhere, but I'll be damned if I can find it again. Thanks. |
| You've probably already checked it out, but the pliers shown in the top topic in this discussion work awesome, completed my first lower last night... works much better than a punch and hammer for that stinkin bolt catch pin.. one thing I did do right was cover the reciever in about 1000 layers of painters tape to protect the finish... anyway, those are my lessons learned.. it's a lot of fun, I want to build another and I haven't finished my first rifle |

for a lower, just the wrench for the buttstock, some roll pin punches, and a small brass or steel punch (mostly for holding stuff like the trigger assembly in place while you feed the retaining pins through). and a pair of vise grips with tape wrapped around the teeth...this was great for driving the two roll pins in. optional tool you might need is a metal file, in case any of the parts have metal flashing on them that needs to be removed. my bolt catch lever was a little outta spec, fixed with a file and patience. |
