Can someone tell me about this .223 ammo?  How does it compare?

American Ammunition 223 Remington 55 Grain Full Metal Jacket Box of 50.

Midway USA is the only place I've ever seen it.

american ammo (aka amerc) is low quality crap.  It makes wolf seem positively Q3131A by comparsion.

That has been heavily reviewed:

In general, AE is good stuff.  Their brass, if you receive FC brass, is not the best out there for reloading.

300 rounds of Amerc ran fine for me in the past.  Although that is all that I ran through.  I just use black hills or my own reloads now.  The only ammo that hasn't worked for me was PMC.  I would get FTE on every round, so they must have been running terribly slow.

It's fine if you don't mind squib loads and blowing up your gun.

Shot 40 rds flawlessly through my rifle.  Little experience with it since it's range ammo and I only went once.  Going again on thursday to shoot 100 or so.

It's shit!

If you decide to buy some, just take a pants with a bullseye on the crotch and tell a recently divorced woman that she's butt ugly-should have stayed married.  It will save you time and money!

I like it.  Great for plinking.  My department also issues it as practice ammo.  Shot a bunch of yestersay without a single problem.  Not sure about the quality of the brass.  I don't reload so I never gave it much thought.
