Sorry, I'm still learning, but what are the large muzzle attatchments on these Armalites?  Sound suppressor, flash hider of some sorts?

Close - what you are seeing is Eugene Stoner's collection that is now owned by Reed Knight.

That's the first collection I've seen that exceeds the collection at Aberdeen Proving Grounds Ordnance Museum, and they don't display everything at once at the OM.

Wow!!!

Thanks SMGLee!

they are muzzle breaks that help tame the gun in full auto.

They almost look like part suppressor as well like the original colt carbines with flash suppressors that actually suppressed

And more over, if they're strictly brake, I wonder why no one else has done anything with that idea.

Looks like it sheaths the barrel from the front sight to the muzzle, don't see any gas ports as would be in a suppressor.

I'm more interested in the design as to "Just a brake"

Acronym is RAW - I can't recall what it stood for - Grenade had flat trajectory and was for 'bunker bustin'".

FN MAG Ser #1.......

That collection isnt't worth 7 figures.  Assuming all of these are transferables, I think the total value of this collection would top $100M, especially if you tried your best to squeeze every single dollar you could for it.

Awesome collection, KAC.  Thanks SMG Lee for showing it to us!

I've seen bits and pieces of this collection before, in the middle of the gun room he has some pieces, mortars, machine guns, things that are too large to hang on the wall, did you get any pics of that stuff by any chance, also does the collection have a wall of AK's? Great work taking those pictures came out awesome, thanks for posting. McM

I have also seen this collection in person. Just don't touch nothin they almost slapped my hand!Pictures were a big no-no. This was at the opening of the new plant on a tour in conjuction with the SHOT show a few years back. When they said it wasn't goin to be open to the public I was shocked!
General Kaliznakoof was there along with classical music group-chellos,violins it was quite a sight!
These pictures show maybe a tenth of what's there. He's got several mini-guns with 3000 round magazines, every kind and version of anti-tank rifle,LMG,HMG and alot of experimental stuff. He also has quite a few modern experimental Combloc weapons that maybe only the our military has a sample of. He told me he can get them for "study" purposes legally.
Thanks for the pictures!- that was the one thing I really missed from my visit. I feel lucky to see this stuff again!

Does anyone know the identity of the 3rd gun from the top in the 4th picture (http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/kactour/KACTour113.jpg)?  It's the one between the AR-17 shotgun and the AR-16 rifle.

Thanks,

I did see that thread at the time, and took a quick look at some of my stuff, plus some pictures.  Found nothing like it.  Even the ACR had the rail going all the way back.

Greg, Looks to me like an AR16 without hand guards or a backsight. There's a rifle I wish they'd repop. Of course, in that room it could be anything--

--anything at all--

(--is that a 40-watt battery there under the action? )

Ducetapeman is correct, in that the rifle is an AR-16.  The story behind that particular rifle is that it was built when ArmaLite sold the AR-10 and AR-15 to Colt's. Along with the rights to these two rifles the patent to the direct gas impingement system went with it.  ArmaLite was no longer able to use it, so that rifle was converted to a gas piston set up.  The AR-18 was later morphed by employees of ArmaLite from Stoner's 7.62 AR-16, and for the same reason the AR-18 was also gas piston operated.

Stoner was fond of the T65, or what was later known as the 7.62 NATO, and commercially as the .308.  Stoner frequently left it to others to down size his rifles to the up an coming 5.56.  Along the same lines Stoner had a thing for direct gas impingement, but after the patent was sold, he had to revert to using gas piston set ups until such time as the patent expired.

That is the free small arms trivia lesson for today.......

Ductapeman and Elkie,

Thanks for the responses.  I thought this weapon was something else because it appears to have a machined aluminum receiver like the AR-10 and AR-15 rather than the steel stampings of the AR-16 and AR-18.  This gun appears to have very little in common with the AR-16s below it.  I was curious if it was perhaps the AR-14, which presumably had an aluminum receiver.

Regards,

Greg
