Now I need banana clips and booh-lets.

.

I did some research over the weekend concerning mags.  The only real thing I learned is that if you go Magpul go Gen3 with the metal inserts lol.

How sensitive is the AK platform to round selection?  I've fired one AK in my life and it shot just fine, to POA, but I don't know what rounds were in the mag.

Not sensitive at all.  If it will go bang, an AK will feed on it.  For mags I always stick with eastern european steel mags.

Some of them don't like hollow points, but other than that they eat just fine.

How about ballistically?  Does the AK care?

Or is it truly socialist, one bullet weight fits all?

Whatever ammo is cheapest... shoot it.

Combloc surplus mags, tapco are both G2G

Any other questions is too many questions

Have these been torture tested? GTG? Fail at 2,000?

I've no first hand experience with 7.62 and hollow points but I have seen many people comment on it over the years

Keep in mind that the gen M3 pmags with metal inserts tend to be a little larger and some guys complain of fitment issues. Personally I like the standard pmags as cheap range mags. If I need a bomb proof AK mag I'm going with steel combloc.

That is his review after 5000 rounds. He usually does an unboxing review and then a review every 1000 rounds.

Based on his reviews and that PSA has a lifetime warranty I got one. It's not perfect but I do think it is cheaper and better that a lot of AKs available today.

It's an AK, it will eat what every you feed it and it may need to be beat with a potato every so often. I'm only 300 rounds in with mine with no major issues so overall I'm happy.

For mags just go with combloc steel and you will be fine. Done be afraid of the Croatian BHO mags for cheap. A minute with a belt sander on the rear lug and they fit fine. You can IM me if you want some more details on that.

OP -- look around the EE for magazines. These Polish mags (good-very good) from whatacountry.com are practically brand new. Personally, I would avoid plastic magazines altogether.

Polish Magazines

Edit: Also, I wouldn't recommend any of the "bolt hold open" steel mags (yugo, Croatian, etc.) -- they sound like a good idea, especially if you are accustom to having the action lock open after firing the last round out of an AR or handgun, but I find them cumbersome on the AK.

What I like about the bolt hold open mags is that they're good for cooling the gun down after shooting for a while so I always bring one to the range with me for that purpose.

Golden Tiger brand ammo from SGAmmo is good stuff. The GT bullet has a boat tail VS. flat base on many others so it's a bit more accurate IMHO.

Circle 10 waffles are on the little larger size too . I think the M3 mags are the best kept secret for those not willing to try them out . Midway had them a month back on a blow out price of $13.99 each . Wish I could of bought more than I did .

+1, I've not had any fitment issue with the Magpul MOE (not steel reinforced) mags but I've read multiple complaints about the gen 3s being larger and not fitting in all AKs.

Magpuls aren't my favorite mag but they have good feeding geometry, they seem to bring rounds up higher than other mags. I had a lot of experience with this in my PTR-32 that took AK mags, it always ran 100% with Magpuls cause the mags sat low in the receiver. If your rifle has issue feeding hollow points a Magpul might fix that. But for el cheapo poly mags the Tapcos are just as reliable for me.

If you're sold on the gen 3s Midway runs some good sales on those.  There are other poly mags out there that are steel reinforced as well. But I've always gone all steel for durability or all poly for a cheap disposable range mag.

I bought some of the Gen3 Magpuls from Midway when they had a 10 pack sale for $150, give it take some change. However, I’ve used the Gen1/MOE and they work great in every gun I’ve put them in. Unless you’re going to using the rifle and mags in a real life combat situation or a competition/course, the MOEs are more than adequate. Otherwise, get cheap combloc steel.

I know next to nothing about AKs, pretty much my only experience is the one time I rented one at a range when I was looking at getting my first rifle (AR vs AK decision).  I was pretty sure I wanted an AR at that point, but I wanted to give the AK platform a chance (also my florida redneck buddy would kill me if I didn't at least give it a chance, he's nuts about AKs, owned them for decades and only just now bought his first AR).  It WAS rather fun to shoot, and I'm still interested in them, but still recognize the whole 'trashcan' gun thing except they aren't trashcan gun prices any more.  I'd definitely be down for a $200-300 beater like I hear tell about in the days of yore before I started buying guns.  Now at $500..... fo?  Doesn't seem like an outrageous price and PSA seems to have a good reputation in general, but I also keep hearing the 'good' AKs start at $1000 these days.  Is there anything I should know first before deciding to get down on one of these?  Side folding stock is something I would want in an AK, is that possible to put on later, or do they have to be built that way?

And so it begins.

I just placed an order for a PSA GB2 AK as well.  I'd been considering one of these rifles for a while, and when a $499 Zhukov with free shipping popped up, PSA Daily Deals found another victim.

TADA!

I'm very pleased with the rifle, especially the trigger.  It is smooth, crisp and consistent from shot to shot.

I had forgotten how small and 'handy' the Ak platform was, so that was a pleasant surprise.

I didn't find any obvious blemishes to classify this as a BLEM GB2 as the sales ad pointed out.

One thing I did discover is that there is no cleaning rod.  The ad mentioned a cleaning rod lol.  I'll send an email in to CS and see what happens.

The Magpul Gen1 AK clipazine functioned fine and the rifle cycled fine.  I will focus though on steel for subsequent mags.

On the way home I was thinking of how to describe the recoil and the best description I could come up with is that the 7.62x39 is somewhat like the .40S&W of the rifle world.  A rather peaky recoil.  The metal buttplate didn't help that lol.  Leaning hard into getting/installing a Magpul Zhukov folding stock.

This particular stock has a spring loaded round flap in the buttplate and there seems to be a random spring inside.  (I didn't have a hex key handy to open it up)

I didn't mess with the sights, you'll see me mention that in the last pic.  The notch seems excessively narrow making it challenging to focus on the front sight (I forget what that effect is called) therefore I'm leaning toward an optic of some type for this rifle.

I’m surprised you say the recoil is intense. None of my AK’s seem to do any more than nudge my shoulder, even with the WASR steel butt plate.

I ordered my PSAK47 GB2 Liberty blem on the 29th and received it on the 1st, not bad. Also picked up an Arsenal SLR106F yesterday and both are very nice rifles.  I will say the F&F on the PSA is better than the 106.  However just like the OP mentioned in his update, no cleaning rod.
I called PSA customer service when I got home and get this they answered immediately. I was told they do not have CRs and are not going to offer them, but they did offer a $10.00 credit back to my card or a gift card, whatever I wanted.

I have read every review and seen all the videos on YT about this rifle and every issue/concern that was expressed, PSA has addressed, at least on my rifle.  Now I have not been able to test fire the weapon, so I can not speak to that.

I have several AKs from Arsenals to Bulgarians to WASRs and the PSA is the best out of the box, my Waffen Werks are second. I have not had an issue with any of them and I expect the same from the PSA.  We'll see.

If we can get a track record, I truly believe that PSA has produced a "cost effective" American made AK that we can be proud to own.

I'll start at the front and work my way back.  The slant brake space is minimal as it should be and the spring loaded retaining pin is correct and works.  No cant on FSB and pins are nicely done and spaced.  The gas tube fit is tight, I was able to remove with a little effort.  Gas block however was just a tad rough on top, grinding marks.  Maybe that's the blem.  Handguards are both tight and the lower handguard retaining bracket is tight, the lever takes just enough pressure to rotate in my opinion.  I know Robski mentioned that he wanted more steel on the front portion of the bracket and it looks like PSA complied.  There is only one machined horizontal slot, not the two that you see in some videos.  The rear sight block and front trunnion are billet and no machine marks of any kind.  There is a "B" after the serial # that indicates a blemished rifle I believe, I could be wrong.  Best barrel pin installation I've ever seen.  All the bolt retaining pins are good and no mushroomed ends, the carrier is forged and has a few machine marks on the ejection port side, other than that, nicely done.  Trigger is single stage with long take up but surprisingly smooth, same with reset.  The bolt carrier will hang up on the hammer if you want it to, just like every other new AK but not if you let it fly home.  Top cover is very tight, maybe a little to tight but I bet it will loosen up with use.  Overall it is a nice, clean looking "American Made" AK.

Magazines all seem to fit, from cheap polymer to expensive steel.  Everyone except a couple of steel mags fit just fine.  I'm not sure what origin those steel mags were, the fit was just super tight.

As I mentioned, I have not shot the rifle as yet and hopefully I will not be disappointed when I do.  I'll let you know.

Based on the posts from @Assh and @danpass On recent experiences with the PSA AK, I’m hopeful on mine.  It will hit my FFL by midweek.   This was an impulse purchase, so hepefully it will end up in the “good idea” category

If you run over them with a car or bash them in a tree, probably. I've got one on an RH10, it's not terrible. I wouldn't pay for it personally but it's ok. I don't have faith in the hinge taking much abuse though.

UPDATE 2:

In terms of the cleaning rod; PSA states that they don't have in stock, and won't supply, a cleaning rod.  Their offer, so to speak, was a $30 refund or gift card.

I went for the refund and it posted today.

I'm going to get the buttstock cleaning kit and cleaning rod from Apex, as mentioned earlier.

A $30 refund in lieu of the cleaning rod is pretty generous since cleaning rods go for 10 bucks at Apex.

Managed to flip out to the range tonight.  Low 60’s and a constant drizzle meant I had the rifle range to myself

100 rounds downrange without issue.  Iron sights were close.

All in all I’m pleased with this rifle.

Is it weird that I like just cycling the charging handle? lol

The action is fairly smooth.

It reminds me of my Win1300 pump shotgun that I’ve been using for 3-gun.

Picked her up this afternoon. Other than a very unnoticeable scuff near the serial number area, I fail to see how this is considered blemished. Hands down the best looking AK I’ve owned or handled in person.
