Probably going to be shooting 123gr A-Max's under 24 or so gr of IMR4198 w/ a 19.5" tube.

Factory ammo for this stuff in Canada seems to be fairly rare at this time sadly.

123 SST may be better.

Top picture is 31.0 grs of CFE223 behind 123gr ELDM and Fed gold medal match AR. The second was Hornady 123 gr black box. Out of my 18” gas piston Loki that usually never groups to well. I pulled the first shot, I did it several times this morning. I guess I just was out of practice.

All right I’m almost in..lol

Been looking at this thread on and off for a while. I’m bored with 556 and want something bigger I can hunt with.

So looking at a 16” rifle or 12’ish pistol

Leaning on the 16”

So who’s got a good deal and has no oddball threads..just a 5/8” not a match barrelmper say but a good shooter with steel and brass

Who makes the lightest 16" barrel? Looking at the faxon gunner (1.53 lbs) barrel but didnt know if there was a lighter weight option (looking to keep it at 300 or under). Putting an antelope rifle together for my wife.

Sounds like it's a *TOUCH* lighter than the Odin lightweight which is 1 lb 10 oz.  You're less than 2 ounces away really, but the faxon *IS* a tidge lighter.

Not sore.  I actually like walking around but those floors do beat the crap out of your feet.

I was sore Friday night, and every other night, like after doing a 12 mile road march.  Not that bad.

The digitally-integrated, flux capacitor-equipped 21.1gw phased plasma rifle upstairs on Level 3 was pretty sick.

Harmonically-dampened barrel system was cool but I can't put a name on it because I never got one.

ThunderBeast's new bipod and .338 Ultra SR QD suppressor are way cool.

The new Aimpoint...

B&T carbines and pistols

Nosler introduced 3 new factory Grendel loads (90gr VG, 123gr CC, 129gr ABLR).

Sierra announced they will be making ammo.

does a 16" ops inc profile Grendel barrel exist? Have the urge to build a recce style. I know BA makes the 18" spr barrel but haven't seen any 16" options

Not that I'm aware of.  Might want to contact maybe Precision Firearms.  They turn grendel barrels and would probably be willing to spin it with the contour.

I didn't make it by Barnes but there are already 2 factory 120gr TSX loads from Alexander Arms and Precision Firearms.

AA has had that 120gr TSX load since 2008, and PF not long after.

Mark LaRue used that to take his 407yd bull elk with a 20" Stealth Grendel in 2008.

Welp, you can pick up 120TTSX from midway right now for about 30 bucks for 50 projectiles and load 'em up, see what's what.

FWIW they also have 120-grain gold dots at $13/50 and I know 2 grendel shooters who've had really good accuracy from them, enough that it's their go-to hunting bullet when they don't care to splurge on Barnes.

The most accurate factory ammo I can think of off the top of my head is 123gr SMK from PF, especially from a Bartlein barrel.

The Black Hills 123 gr SMK’s edge out the Hornady black box 123 gr ELDM. I haven’t seen any of the PF loads around here.

My 12" Grendel runs like a raped ape.

It has more positive return-to-battery stroke than a standard carbine spring and buffer do, as I'm using the Maxim PDW brace.

I'm only several hundred rounds into it so far.

I'll update once I hit 1000rds.

I have about 200 rounds of it left.  For whatever reason, at 100 it did not shoot better than factory Hornady Amax in my barrels.  Haven't tried it at distance, but thought it would shoot better than it did for me.  Both uppers are high end and known shooters too.

I think it likes the.125 bolt and sporter chamber better than the.136 bolt and Grendel chambering. It showed some pressure in my 16 AA compared to the 6.5 Sporter chamber. My 16” liked the AA 120 gr Ballistic tips and my other two rifles wouldn’t shoot them worth a damn but all three rifles would shoot the Hornady Amax relatively well. I got rid of the 16” Grendel before I had a chance to play with the Hornady black box.

Good to know.  I have AA 18 inch GDMR, PF 24 inch Lija, and howa heavy barrel.  All of them are easy sub moa with factory hornady.  But I was getting around 1.5 on all of those with the black hills.

I've heard the Black Hills load was really hot, as in well above SAAMI MAP.

From a 24", it was doing well over 2700fps for a buddy of mine.

Was doing some offhand shooting for fun. Went to reload a mag and it was rattling, shook it upside down and part of the forward anti cants fell out. Very disappointing, mag can’t have more than 100 or so rounds though it, think I only used it to zero(?)

I seen a Brownells five round .223 mag break the bolt catch tab off once. I think it was do to not enough spring tension. I put a new fallower in and it still somewhat works. But I’ve never had good luck with the five round hunting magazines.

It is the 19" AR319 profile. It's one of those that comes with a matching Maxim bolt. I've never owned a Lilja before, so far I'm very pleased with it.

I picked up a fluted 319 a few years ago. Seems like mine didn't really care for factory SST's, though haven't tried them in a while. I've gotten the best results from handloads, though it does shoot the American Gunner ammo pretty well too.

My other 2 grendel's will not shoot SST, period. I almost had better groups from Wolf.
I tried the FGM 130gr Berger load in this Lilja and best I could do was 1.5MOA. I'm hoping to reload something in the 130gr class that will shoot good.

123gr SMK handloads over tac have been universally good shooters across my 3 rifles. I also seem to have the best SD from that handload also.

I recently picked up some FGM 130 gr stuff to try out. Was hoping it'd be a good reference as I'd like to also try to get a 130 load worked up, though that project has taken a backseat to some current 6.5 CM load developments I'm doing.

My current loading is using the 123 ELD-M with some AR Comp behind it. Haven't tried it in my 16" AA though as I have another load I'm trying to work up with that with 129 ABLR's. I've been really happy with AR Comp as I'm getting good SD numbers with it and I've found it burns really clean.

Let us know how it goes with the ABLRs, next time I try a new bullet it will probably be those.

Stuck my toe into the Grendel water this morning--  mixed feelings so far.

Odin Works 20" DMR 1/8 barrel with the factory matched bolt.

FGMM 130gr shooting right at 1" five shot groups. one group a little over at 1.125".

Hornady 123 grain SST shooting five shot groups as big as 3.5".

Wolf 100 grain shooting around 2.5".

Agreed.  Accuracy has been subpar for me, especially my Ballistic Advantage barrel.  Ammo is hard to find locally and expensive online.  And the expensive E-Lander mags still suck sometimes.  It's really far from perfect.  When it works, it's great.

I had a decent outing with my BA 12.5" barrel yesterday.  Using AAC 762-SDN-6 can.  100 yards.  Gun has around 100 rounds so far.

-Upper and Center of the Splatter target is Hornady American Gunner.
-Larue target and lower left of Splatter target is Hornady Black.

Got my Form 1 back last week. Got the lower together last night, went shooting at the indoor range that has my Rugged Micro 30 suppressor.

12" PSA upper, adjustable gas block, Vortex PST Gen 2 2-10x. Lower has a PSA parts kit other than the Geissele SD-E trigger and Super 42 buffer spring. ACS-L stock.

I barely adjusted the PSA gas block, all I wanted was reliable function today. I got less gas in the face than I do my 5.56 rifles with Surefire SOCOM suppressors and Bootleg adjustable BCGs. I'm really impressed with the Rugged Micro 30. Wasn't as sharp of a sound as 5.56, and not nearly the recoil of 308 ARs I shoot.

Only shot at 25y, next Thursday I'm hoping to go to the outdoor range and play between 300-600 yards. This rifle has the serious potential to be my favorite. I really like my 18" Grendel but it's a beast (UBR stock, DD 12" rail, PST Gen2 3-15x, Rugged Surge in jail). This has a heavier optic but nowhere near that rifle.

I'm really happy with this one.

Handloads really make it shine.  My Criterion Hybrid was "meh" with most factory stuff but I think I have a pretty good shooter there...

Accuracy is one of my concerns with the Grendel. It seems they really should group better than they do, from what I see posted most of the time. I wonder why its so hard to get consistent performance with this cartridge? Out of spec reamers? Mixed chamber types and bolt face specs (isnt there 2 types?)? I really hope they get this cartridge nailed down to a science, still supersonic at looong range out of a 12" barrel is amazing!
