What are you guys liking for 55-70hp tractors? I came from a Massey Ferguson family but I currently have a 32 HP John Deere that just isn’t enough. It’s been a good tractor but I’m not sure about newer JDs, I’ve heard mixed stuff.

There's tons of great tractors out there in that price range if you stay with the established brands. |

If I were completely unbiased, I probably would have went MF for my application because of it being the middle ground on weight and HP efficiency at a cheaper price. |

Even had to get a strap out and unwind the drum once.... Loving the fact I can spin the drum backwards from the cab, It really helps with getting in and out for small clogs. It is doing everything I am asking it to do and then some. It has it's limitations and I am not trying to drop 12 inch trees, but for what I purchased it for, I believe I am going to be very happy with it. If I ever decide to go bigger, I may upgrade to the 120 or just go ahead and get a dedicated, purpose built machine. I am a long way from even going that route.... The training mantra of "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast" works really well with these machines. |

There’s just not enough steady contract work now that the timber companies are selling their land here for a purpose built machine. I sometimes wish I would have went bigger but then I get into the chicken houses and remember I have to use mine in multiple roles. I figured the brush hog style was the better choice and renting the drum mulcher. I got into some fescue that was chicken litter fertilized and it was like trying to cut a tire. It brought the Kubota to a halt. But in it’s defense I had to make two passes over the same spot with a ten foot brush hog and 85hp tractor. I think my mulching teeth are a hindrance in really thick grass. |

Sprayed about 64 acres last Friday and today. Just in time for some significant rain.
Half of the cover crop (mostly clover) in my Tifton 85 field was shredded and then fertilized. The other half was sprayed with fertilizer and 2-4d. We shall see how they compare. 40 lbs N. 13.33 lbs P. JD6405 EZ Guide 250 GPS w/o steering Iva 300 gallon 30' sprayer  Attached File |

Was finally gonna finish my chipping for the spring.

Got the chicken coop and run just about finished. Used the backhoe on the 23S to pull wire. It worked out real nice. Will post pictures tomorrow. Phone died half way through the project.

I finished beans on Friday, that capped off the 2021 planting season for us.    I'll start switching the focus over to side dressing urea. We've been lucky and had some timely, soft rains that have really helped set up this crop for a good start. Crank up some heat and let's roll  .

Congrats on the new tractor. You're gonna really like it. Good idea to practice with the loader. Be sure your rear tires are weighted and leave an implement on the back.
I bought an MX6000 about a year ago. I added a grapple before I took delivery of the tractor. I use the tractor several times a week. The grapple is hardly ever taken off. |

Sorry, not really pic worthy.
Sometimes it's the little tasks that really make you appreciate a tractor. Big task -- yeah, not going to happen w/o heavy tools. Little stuff where the tractor was arguably overkill is sometimes just perfection. Yesterday, I needed to fill a few planters, like the 20 gal size or so. I intended to head out with a bucket and shovel to just fill, move, dump. I thought it might take an hour. My wife assumed that I was taking out the tractor and joked that I just wanted to go play. So, I took her suggestion. It would have taken me just as long to grab a bucket and shovel, walk out to the feeding area (beautiful black dirt, BTW), and fill the bucket as it took to walk out to the barn, start the tractor, pull it out of the barn, and get an FEL load of the same dirt. Yeah, that hour of work turned into about 10 minutes of leisure. Today, I got a call to relocate my first bee swarm of the year. Back at the house, I loaded the new hive into the FEL bucket and drove it down to the beeyard. Taking my truck down there would have been a challenge due to the storms we had today. Turned into a truly simple task. Life is so much simpler with the right tools. I can't believe that it took so long for me to get a tractor (April '20). |

 My tiny ass, but super deep chisel plow at work.  30 acres under. Going to disc it tomorrow. Fertilizer after. Then plan hopefully next week. All hay.
