I give you......FrankenColt.
Also known as COVIDColt since I put it together while being off a week with my second bout of Rice Rabies. This started as a full CR6920 M4, but since I prefer the pencil barrel, I wanted to replace the upper. The upper started out as a barreled upper from Doublestar with a chrome-lined barrel. The receiver had a strange marking I've never seen: a letter "M" with something like a little diamond on it. I installed a Colt charging handle, Brownells N1 stock, plus a carry handle and BCM bolt carrier group, ordered from BravoCompany USA back when they still carried them. The point of this build was that while under quarantine I wanted to assemble it from what I had on hand. Hence the name FrankenColt. Only the barreled upper had to be shipped to me. When the UPS guy rang the doorbell I opened the door just a crack and told him to leave it at the door. When he said a signature was required, I told him I had COVID and suddenly he didn't insist on it. Wonder why. After assembly, and once my quarantine was over, I took it to the range and it would fail to feed with certain magazines. I looked closely and the barrel extension was overlapping the receiver's feed ramps by about the thickness of a piece of paper. I took it to a local gunsmith to polish/grind the feed ramps on the barrel extension. He took one look at the upper and its "M" marking, and said, "Man, I've had nothing but trouble with Mueller uppers. I'm just going to replace your upper with an Aero Precision upper and I think you'll be happier." He also remarked that the Mueller receiver looked to him to be out of alignment, which also might be contributing to the rifle's unreliability. To make a long story short, I agreed to the upper receiver swap, and the rifle ran 100% thereafter with over 200 more rounds through especially the magazines that had not worked with the original upper. After this incident, I don't think I will buy any more Doublestar uppers... FrankenColt Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

I have a pile of Colt ARs, 1911s, revolvers and now 2020 4.25" Python to go with my 1981 Python and a 2021 6" Anaconda to go with the new Python. I'm happy! I just need a 4.25" SAA in .45 Colt! Just thought of something, I do want a 1st generation Detective Special in .38 Special, too. I would probably trade my damn near mint 3rd gen to do it. Thought of something else, an actual aluminum framed Cobra would be nice. They could just call it a Lightweight Cobra since they decided not to call the steel framed one a Detective Special. I get why they did it, I just don't like it! Oooh, they could bring back the Lightweight Government. I've never carried mine, but damn it's beautiful and feels great in the hands. I would also gladly take the hit in value on my WW1and WW2 repros if they brought them back as a catalogue item. |

Thanks, buddyhoohaw and SSeric02. When I got it someone stripped the Colt furniture off it and replaced the buffer tube assembly. I replaced the buffer tube assembly (with all colt parts) staked it properly, added the proper Waffled stock (2002) era, as I already had some parts and replaced the handguards with Bakelite USGI 6 hole skinny handguards. I am very fortunate to have found it in almost unfired condition for being 20 years old. As you said, this was one of my Holly Grail Rifles. I have a certified letter from Colt on its Authenticity. It should have an A2 grip, but I like the A1 grips and purchased this new old stock M16A1E1 prototype grip, that has a A2 size without the finger grove.

Picked up a 6920 SOCOM to go with my regular 6920. I love it enough I’m going to grab a SOCOM barrel for the M4 Carbine marked 6920 and SBR that lower. This pair is rounded out by a 6720, and now I just need to add a 20” A4 to call it good.

Got bored today and decided to dress up my 6720 with some double star hand guards, a B5 stock and unknown make grip. I wish Colt would bring back the 6720. Sorry, don’t know why it’s posting upside down. |

Gonna have to dig out the molted A1 grip I have laying around somewhere and toss that on my 6720. |
