In for a answer as my 6.5 G has the same dented case mouth as above.
what gives ? |

Mine feeds flawless, case mouths are the same as pictured and a non issue.

Ok good to know. At this point I'm just saving brass. Eventually plan to reload for my 6.5G among others.

Anyone shooting the cheap wolf 6.5 g I'm thinking of picking up a couple cases just for general plinking. At the price it runs it is dam cheap to just send some downrange

At the price it runs it is dam cheap to just send some downrange View Quote Some downsides to it are I have read the bullets are slightly undersized and they are bimetal jacketed. Normally I wouldn't care, but I am hesitant to shoot a lot of it in my Larue barrel. Bimetal jackets do cause more barrel wear than regular gilding metal jackets. I may pick up another cheap blasting barrel to fire this through as opposed to my nice Larue barrel. |

Quick range trip today before work, only 20 rounds. This was the best group of the day (factory ELD-M): https://i.imgur.com/sAusdz9.jpg Questions: 1) I still can't get the rounds to chamber using the bolt release. This is the same with my two ACS magazines and my two E-Lander magazines (all 10 rounders). Today I only loaded each magazine with five rounds (had been loading them to capacity) but it made no difference. The bolt goes forward and just sits there on the round and I have to pull back on the charging handle for it to load it. Any ideas? 2) Most of my spent casings look like this...is this bad (the dented mouth)? What's causing this? The gun is an upper kit I assembled with a milspec buffer spring and H buffer, unsupressed. Has exactly 100 rounds through it after today. https://i.imgur.com/tbwjpYK.jpg View Quote |

My friend shooting wolf is using the standard LaRue block and it works fine. I'd probably get a beater barrel setup to shoot it, but with my beater barrel setup I love it, just need to get some of the higher capacity mags as I have a 5 and two 17s. |

I finally got a chance to sit down and try a little harder. It's pretty dang easy to shot MOA with this rifle. I used my range bag and some jackets as a rest. The black shot the best for me with a .456 MOA, SST's with a .9XX, and the AG with a 1.1XX. I'm thinking about getting a bipod and a bag for the rear. I truly believe half MOA with all the rounds is doable with the blacks able to touch holes. https://scontent-dft4-3.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/23795659_10203861835622879_2158998502046850228_n.jpg?oh=4e0497de254a532fb001f87437437767&oe=5AD6822A View Quote |

Quoted: IYO, which is the best deer round? View Quote My opinion though for quick kill and little damage to meat, I like .223/5.56. I have killed 5-6 deer with only 1 running after a shot, only running about 50 yards. Everything else has dropped in its tracks. |
|
I've seen a lot of pictures with the black and almost every one I've seen has failed to stay together and essentially explode after impact. The AMAX rounds are discontinued for the 6.5, but when you look up the AMAX, it shows it's used for hunting also, where the black shows target only. Any 6.5 round is gonna kill a deer, its simply how much meat is destroyed :P
|
|
123gr AMAX expands down to 1600fps, but is intended for target use.
People were killing everything they were shooting with it before Hornady introduced the 123gr SST factory load and bullets for hand loaders. We did a massive group buy initially with the 123gr SST as they were tooling up for it. There's a running survey of field results for game on the Grendel forum recording: Bullet weight/type Animal type and weight Distance to the shot Travel distance after the shot There are hundreds of samples already, mostly deer and hogs. 123gr SST has at least 300 field samples so far on game taken-most of those are DRT results. It is by far the most prominently chosen bullet, mainly because of the factory ammo availability, economical price, and performance. There are even cow elk DRTs with it from 16" barrels at close range. There are a lot of 123gr AMAX kills as well, followed by 120gr Barnes TSX and 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. |

View Quote Dunno why I didn't add that tid bit of information in my post. I went with the SST. I was able to watch the deer in my scope after the shot. It took 2 steps and laid down and fell asleep. The organs inside were destroyed. The meat looked ruined, but when you started to cut away at the outer layer, it cleaned up nice and there was no wasted meat. |

Took two this year in WI with a 12.5" barrel in the UU. Larger than quarter exit hole through the rib cage at 25y and about a quarter sized exit hole through the rib cage at ~100y, both expanded within the chest cavity. SSTs, heart and lungs at 25y and both lungs at 100y. Instant drop for the one at 25y and 5-10 yards for the one at 100y. Significantly less mess compared to using one of my high powered rifles but with similar dead deer results.
