To answer the OP, it sounds too much like "6.5 Grundle."

I am pretty late to this party, but I am about ready to build my 6.5Gangsta.

I selected a 20" Wilson arms barrel, mainly due to my research that led me to wanting both a SAAMI chamber and the correct bolt face depth. The bolt is an AA.

Anyone know any info on these barrels?  From what limited info I have been able to find they seem to be a better choice than the satern liberty line with the "grendel II" chambering.

Just call it grendelski like me. You'll think  it's like a strong polish American linebacker from the 60s or 70s NFL.

Woooooo.

Tried 123 eld  m hornady black load again. I have shot about 250 rounds of it now I think.  About 1.5- 3"  and hornady 123 sst was a touch worse.

A representative group of the black loading today.

------------

Tried first 5 of the American gunner 123 bthp

A little better

----------

Then... Tried that American eagle 120 grain otm

5 rounds. Single loaded 1:30 apart from each other.

...

Finally found a factory load that seems to group really well. Will shoot some more later when I have more time.
And of course need to figure out some hand loads too.

Yeah I was starting to second guess my bbl choice.  Getting mediocre results with a few brands  and my first batch of reloads.

It's a satern liberty 18" 416ss but reprofiled to super skinny.

Still breaking in my barrel (less than 100 rounds through it), but glad to see I'm not the only one seeing mediocre results with some factory ammo.

I need to shoot it in a rest (was shooting Grippod + rear bags before) but that Black ammo was not impressing me.

SST was a bit better and hunted accurately enough to take down a cow elk the next day

Need to get a die set and work up some loads for the 129 ABLR - any of y'all got any starting points?

I do miss my Grendel's.  I think it is the ultimate cartridge for most action rifle disciplines going out to about 800 yards.  It has low recoil, great impact on steel plates so it is easy for shot callers to determine a hit, great wind bucking ability, and best of all, it is a low pressure round that doesn't eat a barrel's throat within 1000 rounds.   If I do another AR type build, it will be another Grendel with a slim 19-20" barrel.

I am hoping that some day, the people who make the AR15 type Mutant rifle in 7.62x39, will make their parts available to builders.  Building a Grendel with the thicker dimensions on the bolt, and barrel extension would make for a very durable rifle.

Damnit, I went to the CMMG website, and they DO offer a 6.5 Grendel upper based on exactly what I was thinking about.  What I'm looking at isn't cheap, but it sure would be a fine Grendel based on the mid sized receiver so it could use the stronger bolt.

Of all the posts I've seen about bolts breaking, you would think that someone like me who owns 6 of them and runs courses where we shoot 2-3 days in volume would have at least seen one broken bolt personally by now.

I've been at courses where several Grendel's piled up brass like a 240 position on the transition range at the end of the fiscal year, no broken bolts.

Maybe I should set out this year to try to break a bolt, as I've only pulled it off with 5.56 guns after 10k rounds in CQM sessions/3-gun.

How well would the 10 round 7.62x39 LAR-15 magazines work with 6.5G?

Mags like this.

I just shot some of that today, trying to break in my new build. My best group was about 1" at 100 yards.

Also shot some Wolf, which did okay but there were a few odd fliers. This was the best group of the Wolf:

I'm really looking forward to working up some loads for this caliber.

Ballistic Advantage 16" Mid-length Hanson Profile, 1/8", SS

I also have it paired with a BA upper and bolt carrier group.

Am having some issues at the moment with short stroking, and failing to feed the next round. It will eject, but fail to load the next cartridge. Intermittent though; sometimes it's single shot, other times I can get 3-4 shots off before it fails to feed.

Only have 75 rounds through it so far; 25 Hornady and 50 Wolf. The ASC magazines are also very stiff, especially when loading the last round. Seems like there's a lot of drag on the feed lips.

I'm really not certain if it's under-gassed, magazine related, or just needs to be broken in. I'll hit the range again next week and see what happens.

I have broken 2 ejectors.  Both were Satern / Liberty.  This was within about 700-800 rounds on both occasions.

I have talked to other fellow grendel shooters who have experienced the same issue.

I love the cartridge, but it is an issue with some manufacturers.  And no I don't run the particularly "hot" loads.

Why would a spring loaded plunger break?  Stress riser from cutting the roll pin channel too deep or sharp maybe?

Just sounds like shoddy manufacturing or design on their part.
