Specop007, I think what I have decided is I will mount a 2x4 edgewise to the angleiron in front! That way, if there are, and there were, hits to the lower area, you'll see splinters rather than get a face full of lead!!! AND, I can replace the 2x4's easy!!! I have a ton of heavy 4x4 timbers that I can build 'racks' for the whole shebang too!!! Trust me, I feel really bad about my design flaws/club member injury devices!!! I WILL solve this problem AND make it more fun than it was before!!! |

So KDSC members....when is the next shoot? I am thinking two weeks from this weekend. I know I know, many of you want to shoot NOW!! But I have to recoup and be able to buy more ammo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I as well would like to get two new competitions ready for the shoot. One will be the pistol droppers that were injuring everyone (trust me they will have a fitting name). They will be fixed I guarantee. The other competion is a timber sport/team based event...you guys will die!!! Just as a teaser to it, imagine cutting down small trees (except in a safe controlled manner of course) I will bring the plate steel as well, so dont worry. How does that sound? |

well, i thought it would be next weekend, but the one after is fine too. im working the bowling pin angle at this end, i should have some by than, and if noone minds can introduce yall to some pin events. i guess basicaly i'll show up whenever someone says show up. i do need ta get my arse over ta cabellas and pick up some more ammo though. |

Hmmmm Bowling pins and trees! Sounds fun Anyway guys I posted the next shoot date as April 15th so we can let Metalman work his magic and resupply his ammo bunker I'll be out at the range this Saturday punching paper and sighting in a couple rifles if anyone wants to show up, and maybe spot for me

I'll spot ya brother I'm gonna bring out my daughter to hit the 22 for a while. She's a real good shot and I have to remember to keep her shooting and loving it. These are our next bearers of arms I keep forgetting. One of my co-workers may show as well.  I also built SpecopOO7 a portable shooting bench I need to get to him so I'll bring that as well. |
I wanted to bring that issue up. I think if we're going to continue to bring out kids out (And I know I would like to) we need to get them more invovled. My daughter was a bit disppointed she didnt get to shoot more then she did. I'm sure alot of the kids felt that way. It looks like we could set them up on the right side of the range while we stay where we were and use the left. I dunno, just something I was kicking around thinking about. We need to do something, its for the children.

SpecopOO7, not to burst your bubble or anything. I agree, and I disagree. I think it is SUPER important that we get our kids involved. BUT, I think the KDSC is more an adult endeavor. I really want to stress that. We have already had safety issues , and I WILL NOT have kids hurt at these shoots. I refrain from bringing my daugters to the shoots because I really want to involve myself totally with the group. I cant do that with my kid there. Thats why we shoot the 22's every weekend. Its my father daughter thing. The KDSC will gain more and more public notice as we progress and grow our ranks. So I want kids to be far on the periphery during our events. Now...if someone else wants to be the leader of the KKDSC (Kansas Kids Defensive Shooting Club) that is a whole other ball of wax. I am spread pretty thin as is. Safety will always be on the forefront of the KDSC, and there is absolutely NO room for compromise on that issue. I am all for shooting with you and your kids during our 'off' times, but it is just hard for me to see that the safety of the kids be an issue not related to them (i.e. stray bullet, lead, etc.). I would have to fold the KDSC if something terrible like that happened. What I see as another issue is, those of us with kids, like you and SAM, may not be able to get babysitters for shoots. This is something I had to deal with in the MODCC shoots sometimes. Sucked, but was necessary. Again, as you yourself said, "think of the children". I 'de love to see a KKDSC formed, but, one step at a time, lets shoot with our kids this weekend and talk more. |

MarkIV, We talked a lot about this last saturday. I really think that we need to find a way to separate the shoots from our kids. I know that some people will have a harder time making the shoots because of this, but I had to deal with the same thing at the MODCC shoots. Now, I am not saying the MODCC/CMMG shoots didn't allow kids there. They just couldn't compete. I believe the age cut-off was sixteen. I am OK with that in our shoots as long as there is an adult representing them. Coopmandu and I feel that our kids need to be exposed to, and participate in, shoots of some sort. Coop's kid is just DYING to have a kids competion. For kids that young I think we need to make kids shoot date [right now Coopmandu and I are shooting every saturday with our kids]. At least with them I can devote all my time to my girls. I really cannot do that at our shoots. And I would never think of shoveling my kids off to someone else, because I wouldn't want someone else doing that to me. But, most importantly, safety is the thing in the very front of my mind with the kids. Its one thing if I am shooting right along side with my daughters and something happens, at least then I can just bolt, or call nine one one and take the responsibility of the consequences on my own shoulders. If someone's child were injured during a shoot, I could never live it down. Anyway, the property we shoot on is not mine, so if anything weird happens, it opens another dillema. I wish I could be flexible on this. I think it is in the club's best interest that we keep the adult shoots, adult. And the kids shoot for kids. Coopmandu and I still make it out every saturday to shoot with them, and any and all are welcome to do the same. |
I don't think there's a problem with bringing the kids out for our bigger shoots. But I tend to agree at those shoots the kids don't need to be shooting next to the adults. And with the small size of the range it just complicates matters. |

Update I think Metalman and I might have the problem with the pistol poppers solved Were building two stands with six targets each that are gonna shield the angle iron that was causing all the backsplash at our last shoot.Were gonna test drive one of them this Saturday and see how it works out. Got some pics here of the Metalman/Coopmandu improved pistol rack     Metalman and my grandpa's old HI Standard  The rack turned out alright, only issues left are securing the frames to the wood rack and beefing up the support legs a little more. We'll have two of these ready for next weekends taxday shoot! Hope to see you all there. |
Update: We are HOPING to get two of these racks finished for the shoot.  I want to make sure we get the 'Timber Sports' portion of the events finished as well. Coop and I's pistol skills aren't as up to par as I had hoped  Hitting ten targets was harder than we anticipated so we may just stick with the one rack. It has ten targets on it in the pix, but I have twelve. Oh, and just to announce formally what the timber sport portion of the next shoot will be: Team log saw Teams of three will each have a 'log' to saw [4x4] . The first team to cut their log in half wins. Simple, no? NO! When I did this competition at a MODCC shoot, the people who did best were the combination caliber teams, so when you choose your team I suggest you find someone with an AK, AR , and some sort of 308. Sub guns are ideal. MP5's etc. This will be a rifle ONLY competition, no pistols. Range will be about half the length of the range, if not shorter. I also suggest you bring at the very minimum, three full thirty round mags if not more. You will be really suprised at how many rounds it'll take to knock these down! Drop the poppers This competition will be using the pistol droppers. Ten to twelve targets must be knocked down. This is a timed competition, no mag limitations. Straight drop This competition will be the same amout of targets, yet you must drop them in order, right to left, and if you miss a shot you have to move to the next target, no pick-ups. This is a timed, and scored event. For each missed target you will be penalized three seconds. That is: three seconds will be added to your time for each target missed. Here are my reservations on this particular competition: you blast ten rounds as fast as you can, the clock stops, and you still have a better time after penalties compared to those who try and aim and execute every shot. So, do we need to make the penalties ten seconds per missed target? Free shoot I will have the steel, so hammering will commence once again Lets get some input on these events, if there is some fine tuning to do, lets do it now while we still have time. |
| As it stands now I will have to pass this weekend up. I'm trying to get a bunch of stuff done around the house, there is a distinct chance that I will be in Va for 2-3 wks for work. It's killing me cause the idea of the team log shoot has kept me up nights just giggling like a child. |

Hi Guys and Gals, Looks like a nice setup and I would love to attend today but with the Easter holiday it is going to be tough. If you dont see my big head it's not because I don't like you. Instead of shooting plates and winning the war against trees "one at a time" I will be hunting easter eggs and hangin with the family. All is not lost...... Well folks, the bad news first. After the brass clean-up, the police showed up to inform us the residents in back of the property we shoot on, reported some flyers. I want to formally apologize to our members, and these people. At the end of the shoot I noticed some were getting a little careless in watching their muzzle orientation. I will as well lump myself into this group as I love to bump fire. NO MORE. I feel terrible that this has happened. One of the luxuries we enjoy is the ability to come to this range and have the fun that we do. We will lose this ability quickly if this continues. Until I can find land of my own, that I can take insurance out on, we cannot afford something like this again. I want to also thank the law enforcement that arrived to tell us about this. They were extremely professional, and understanding, in the way they handled the whole affair. I will again extend my hand to the same law enforcement agents to come out and join us, to better bolster our ranks and keep the activities in check. Now the good news. The shoot was a blast. We had about five or six new members show up, and the competitions were very fun. We all know how terrrible I am with pistols, but I did get all eight targets...it just took twenty one shots. I have some welding to do to catch up with the destruction. Got to shoot a four fifty four ruger that was a horse. And had a hoot watching Glockluvinredleg wrastle with his AR. Damn that wolf.Muahahahahahah. Oh not to mention the hot jacket incident. I also wanna thank Glockluvinredleg for bringing refreshments,and his sparkling personality, these are the types of things we need at all the shoots. Pitchin in and helping others. I hope all who got to ride the fifty one enjoyed it as much as I do. Just once more.....this was a wake up call folks, we must be vigilant until we have better facilities. We cannot allow even ONE round to not make it into the berm. Luckily the weather was mild, just a few sprinkles. Hopefully all the members who were taking pictures will post them soon. I will post times tommorrow, much beer and a soft chair is in my future.METALMAN OUT |

Had a great time today as always guys. I think I got my Aimpoint solid on my M1A now! Also I want to concur on everything Metalman said about the flyers we had today. And I really appreciate how professional the local law enforcement was on handling the matter. Next time we CANNOT have anything go over that burm!!! And I'm as guilty as anyone else too guys. Lets just keep all that in mind for the next shoot.

Glad you were able to make it out! I've been wanting to get a M44 for awhile now, I've got a couple 91/30's that I'm definately bringing to the next shoot. And Mosin's aren't poor man's guns, their just priced competitively Oh, and guys I think were gonna go for the 13th of May for the next shoot................ See you all there! |
