I know it's early and the chaos is unfolding but I'm ready to load up and head west .
Not my 1st rodeo doing such blindly but points of contact are always welcome. I'd assume needs for mobile fueling , flotation , potable water ,foods are key currently and will become more drastic as time passes and rain continues If there is someone within relatively dry radius I can bring hundreds of gallons of fuel , water , 1000 mres And can begin shuttling supplies to needs I'd need somewhere to drop a 16ft foot enclosed trailer or a 27 foot open deck |

I evacuated my family from Katy to North Texas this morning once I decided that our house was likely going to get water into it.
Once I have my womenfolk situated, I'm planning on hitching a boat up and heading back. Once I get back, I am an unencumbered able-bodied male with a boat and all manner of equipment. Does anyone know if there is any location for volunteers coordination yet? |

SW Fla here. Spent a good bit of my childhood in San Marcos in the 70's. I know what a gully is and I know what heavy rains do to that area. I remember when the swimming pig at Aquarena Springs drowned ...I know a thing or two about hurricanes too. Old friends and family there too. So I will be keeping any eye on the boards to see if my help is needed from afar.

My family is in Sealy, Texas.
My mother, sister, niece, and brother in law. My brother in law has multiple medical issues. They are not preparation minded like I am. I literally have months of food, a high volume bio filter for water, ammo, bows, guns, etc. They weren't paying attention and by the time they realized they needed more than a few days of food, the stores were empty. They have filled the tubs and pots and pans with water. Anyone nearby in case things go south? All I would need is to remove them from immediate danger and drop them at a government center. I am more concerned with a prolonged aftermath issue. I live in Arizona and driving 14 hours to save them isn't feasible. No resources. A ham radio contact chain would be great, too. In case coms go down. I have a radio but no license, but I can listen if I know what freq and time. |

Loaded minus my own packs
2-100 gal gasoline tanks 1-100 diesel Full 250 gallon pallet bottled water Mres stuffed everywhere , prob 6-700 or so Misc 5 gallon potable waters Fuel and water for myself , plenty of tools of all kinds and nothing I can't accomplish I have a friend of friend in corpus I talked to but have no destination set as if yet . I'm leaving here at 2 am with a 14 hour haul . Shoot a PM with contact info if you need anything or know who does . Once I drop what I have I'll start making trips to wherever resupply is and dropping loads . In a f-450 4wd with 11ft service body I'm coming without trailer as I prefer not to get hemmed in somewhere |

I just have to say this. The response to this by our Texas brothers and sisters is just reinforcing my
already huge love and pride I have for our state. However the interviews with the people in Rockport have made me prouder than I've ever been of my beloved state. God Bless Texas. Does Mayor Charles Wax have any children? We need more leaders like him. |

Speaking from my Katrina experience and setting up a volunteer housing center, there will be a HUGE need for strong backs to tear out walls, insulation, soaked furniture and uhmm...ripe refrigerators and freezers. Where they had tornados, they will need trees cut. Live Oak are some of the heaviest trees I've ever dealt with.
This won't be over in a day, week or month. This will take well over a year. PS: the right donations at the wrong time are going to be a problem. In Hancock County Mississippi we had to threaten people with the PD cited them for dropping off clothes. Yes, in the beginning they where needed. But EVERYONE wants to empty their closets and send it to the disaster zone. Many distribution centers (yes there will be some springing up soon) are outside. There isn't enough manpower to keep things folded and organized like a clothing store. It isn't long before there are just piles of clothes getting soaked, stinky and a problem. We filled two roll offs with bug infested wet clothes about 3 weeks after Katrina.  
Pallets of water, while not as big a problem, where shipped down by the semi load. We used them to direct traffic, as supports for plywood tops for other donations so people could "browse" for items they needed. We called them "Wall-less Marts". Probably the biggest problems were people just sending anything they dug out of their she'd or garage that didn't work. There are limited resources. Sending a weed eater that doesn't run. A shopvac that "just needs a new cord" is only adding to the problem of debris removal. Oh yeah, please for the love of all thing Holy, don't send pond water in reused milk jugs!!! |

Live coverage If you're going to head to help, might want to keep this link for road closures. Watching the news this morning, all highways into Houston are underwater. While the desire to go help is strong, you may become part of the problem. Heading down from Dallas, FM1960 and I-45 south is underwater. TXDOT shows 45 closed as far north as Madisonville. Unless there is a place to offload the supplies, you might just end up sitting on the highway. Can someone who is in the area coordinate where to bring things. Is it to early to even head that way because the water is still rising causing help to be pushed further out than expected? Looks like a lot of us are ready to go and help, we just don't know where to go or what to bring. |

Anyone going to be in Rockport the next 2 days and could do a quick drive by to check on a house right off of 35 in Palm Harbor subdivision? Like to get a few pics of my grandfather's house so I can game plan what I need to bring down either Friday or Saturday to either secure or salvage it.
If someone needs some supplies in that area I can try to help out. |

Ellington Field - Clear Lake - Area... We are getting even more HEAVY F'ing rain... and that ain't good!
I have two 4x4 8' bed pick ups. One Diesel CUCV (5/4 ton) 
and other Gas 2500 3/4 ton. 
Full fuel tanks & ready to roll if I can help. Have a spare bedroom upstairs with two single beds if someone needs an overnight or three in the area... I'd need to clear it with a room mate, but I think it is a possible to help out. Upstairs so access could be issue re handicaps or age. Also have a little used Queen size mattress from guest room. Was new about 3 years ago, but almost never slept on so I'd call it excellent if anyone's bedding is ruined by the water. E-mail me for fastest response. BIGGER_HAMMER

I was in Dickinson Friday until a little while ago.its a mess....luckily where I was we had lights and no water inside.
i went home to san Leon, no flooding on my street and have utilities. you guys stay safe out there. when all this is cleared up I can help out clearing debris or whatever for anyone close to me. |

Fellas - right now it appears Zello is the best way to learn where to unload, etc if you're trying to come to help.
Zello is an app for iPhone / android etc. It works like a radio. Once you have it installed add a channel - search for "Texas Search and Rescue" You'll have to transmit briefly to be authorized for the channel. "This is <> asking to be authorized for the channel" works fine. Once there, give it a listen for a while. There are other channels for specific areas of Houston. |
