edited 10/27 to add: Alrighty, shoot day is coming up NEXT SATURDAY, October 28th. There have been some questions about possible restrictions, times and such, so I want to post everything in one big post here now that I have the information. TIME: Ok, the shoot will begin @ 10:00am on Saturday morning of October 28th. PRICE: Each attendee will need to check into the shop and pay the regular everyday $9.00 range fee, nothing more. The range fee will be good for shooting down on the lower range with us, or if you desire, you can always head up to the main range anytime you want. TARGETS: A junk car will be hauled on site for all of us to have our way with. Two cases of Tannerite will also be provided for the group. That’s it for the provided targets, but you can bring your own targets as you please. Two restrictions to keep in mind on your own targets; 1) NO GLASS! (monitors, TV’s…..) And 2) We all must take away what we bring. So if you brought out a washer machine and blow it into 5000 pieces, you would need to make the appropriate plans to haul it away afterwards. WE MUST LEAVE THE RANGE AS WE FIND IT, OR BETTER! This is just common curteousy, and Kenny of KCR is being kind enough to let us utilize the lower range for no additional costs! Also note, the range shop does have an extensive supply of paper targets and even some steel plate targets for sale inside if anyone needs anything. Propane targets, if anyone brings any propane bottles, they will HAVE to be placed at the very back of the backstop ( a little over 100 yards ). This is just for safety’s sake from shrapnel. I’ve seen people in the past put tanks 30 yards down range, that is not safe for the shooter or the other bystanders. Not saying anyone with our group here would do that, but just want to bring it up now anyway. Pretty much, any thing exploding with shrapnel will need to be coordinated with Ky_Bob or myself, we don’t want any accidents afterall. ETA: Also, no tracers ( or Molotovs  ), as they could be a fire hazard within the vegetation closely surrounding the lower range. If you've seen the lower range before, you know what I mean.Along with no tracers, no .50 and over ammunition size. PARKING: There should be plenty of parking readily available down by the lower range, so just drive right on back, there will be several of us making sure that parking stays orderly so you can leave at anytime if you have to. FOOD: Ok, this is the part I’m not really prepared for unfortunately. There are chips and drinks and candy bars available at the range shop, but that’s it. So it would be a good idea to bring a sandwich or something, or eat a big Cracker Barrel / Waffle House breakfast before coming, lol. ( Of course, just a reminder, no alcohol ). Ok, that’s pretty much all I can think of right now, if anyone has any questions or requests just ask. I will repost the GENERAL SAFETY AND RANGE RULES that Ky_Bob so graciously worked up for us below this post to have everything in one spot. I’m looking forward to meeting as many of you that can make it out, it should be a good time, and hopefully we can start doing these kinds of things more often, and bring some life into the KY Hometown Forum and community.  |

Here's a repost of the General Rules, thanks to Ky_Bob for working this up and helping out with safety for all of us: General Safety rules 1) Always obey the 3 basic rules of safety. Here is a refresher. 1) ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction 2) ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot 3) ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use 2) The firing line The firing line will be clearly marked with yellow caution tape. All shooters should fire only from the line. Your toes should be touching the line unless you are shooting prone then the muzzle should be acroos and downrange of the line. Belt fed weapons will of course sit back from the line with muzzles over the line. No loaded weapons on the range except on the line. This means that magazines are inserted into weapons at the line and removed before leaving the line. Ensure the weapon is unloaded before leaving the line. No one crosses the firing line without it being cleared. 3) Clearing the firing line Clears will be sounded with an air horn. No one crosses the line until all participants acknowledge the clear. No changing of targets without a clear. Weapons should not be handled during the clear, loading magazines is fine. 4) Eye and ear protection is required. Shooting other people weapons One of the best parts of these shoots is shooting other peoples weapons. There is nothing like trying out a rifle or pistol you have been eying before actually buying it. Any arrangement you come to with the other person is fine but there are some “rules of etiquette” if you will. Most all Class III owners will let you shoot their weapons for the asking provided you supply the ammunition. Some of the most generous owners will even supply ammunition, but if you think about it, this can get prohibitively expensive at a larger shoot when they are handing out free 30 round magazines of .223 ammunition to anyone who asks. So be prepared to offer to shoot your own ammo. Some owners are pickier than others and may have requirements such as brass cased factory ammo only, or no “brand X” ammunition or no reloads. Considering the amount of $$ invested in these weapons I think that is more than understandable. |

Molotovs, lol. I'm glad you said that because I forgot to add something to the list that Kenny mentioned. Sorry, BeaterAR, I hate to be a party pooper, but I'm afraid fire in general is out, that means tracers as well just for the lower range. Not a big deal since it's day shooting anyway, not as dramatic. There is vegetation all around the lower range, so I'd say they just don't want the off chance of starting a fire in the woods. I've seen fires started way up on the hills during the machinegun shoots on the main range even many, many times when it was dry, so the thought of a fire starting on the low range is real if dry enough. But regardless, that was one of Kenny's rules so we have to abide. |
Grilling out would be ideal. If we don't this time around, we'll definately try and work it in to the next shoot we do. I just don't have the grill equipment, and I'm sure as hell no master chef, hehe |

Gas in anything and a lighter works BTW...all the fancy Kaboos and such, at what point are you actually makeing a bomb? On the grill situation, I have a small webber type grill I can bring it wont hold a whole lot but..............One of you guys with the tactical family sized grill are more then welcome to bring it. I can supplie some hot dogs free of charge, but I cant really afford anything eles. I will start a new thread and see if there is any interest in pot luck. Look for the KYHTF SHOOT BBQ thread |

I'm trying to make it down on the 28th. I don't have any fire arms except for my mossberg 500. I guess I should bring that down. Better than nothing right? I really hope I can make it. I've never seen an AR15 in action, or much of anything else for that matter. I guess I'll be the one with the huge smile on my face.  If I can make it I'm gonna pick up some .223 and some AK ammo. Just in case I get lucky enough to squeeze off a few rounds. Maybe I'll even rent one. Do they sell that type of ammo at knobcreek or other places close by? I have plenty of 12gauge shells so that won't be a problem |

I know people worry about packing enough ammo, guns, and food (usually in that order), but I've found that running out of decent targets is just as common an occurrence. Cars and tannerite are always good, but bleach and laundry detergent bottle make decent smaller targets for the smaller range we'll be on. I'll probably hit the local plastic recycling dumpster before getting on the road. For those of you who have a garage, mini-barn, outbuilding, etc., take a look inside and you'll probably find all kinds of good junk that you've been meaning to get rid of. For those of you with good/creative ideas for usable targets, please chime in. Also remember that the best targets are the ones you can get for free, or even better, the ones that somebody will pay you to take away. Maybe if one of you has a utility trailer to round up some junk riding lawn mowers... just a thought. |

MaleMammal There will be plenty of ARs for you to shoot, ammo is the real issue. Its easy to shoot up lots of ammo but the stuff is costly, so stock up. Wall mart did have the 55grain WIN white box value packs, they are the ones to buy but I havent seen them at my local store lately. Knob Creek gun range sells ammo too, it is a bit more then I like to pay but hey thats the cost of being right there. |

12 packs of bargain soda provide dandy targets as well. 12 oz cans explode nicely when hit. I have a full-sized Weber I can toss in the back of the truck. If a couple people bring a small bag of charcoal to compliment my meger supply, we should have the makins for a nice roast. As wet as things are, I'm disappointed to hear about the tracer ban. Alas, my supply of 5.56 FMJ is depleted and all I have for blasting is tracer.  So...what kind of full auto fun will be there?

You guys just had to mention the weather didn't you? Temperature wise, I like shooting in the cold, but hopefully the weather report will get better as we get each day closer, I'm an optimist |

Don't forget to bring gun-realated items you might have for sale. Never know who might be looking for what. Anybody attending that's interested in 900-1000 rounds of Korean 30-06 (brass case, corrosive, boxer primed), let me know. Dad's got some he doesn't need anymore. Probably would let it go for around $200 for all of it I'd guess. Oh, and there wouldn't be tax or shipping involved. Maybe he would split it up too. Don't know. It does come in four individual cans though, so maybe he'd divide it that way too. Forecast for Saturday is looking better now. Hope to see you all there. |

I plan on being there this Saturday. Im excited as, even though Ive had my AR for a couple months, I have yet to shoot it! how ), and my Marlin mod.60 so I can shoot alot with out going broke! My girl friend's cousins are in town from Paraguay and I hope to bring them. They have never shot a "real" gun and were surprised to learn we could actually have them! They are bright people who speak and understand English very well so there will not be any safety concerns due to lack of communication! I just want to make sure it would be ok to bring these guys to the shoot? Looking foward to it!! JD |
I went through my stuff last night and will be bringing my DSA FAL, Olyarms M16 w/5.56 and 9mm capability, Colt-Bmaster CMMG mid length AR15, Ultralight AR15 project gun that I hunt with, and my trusty Marlin 1894P in .44 mag that I also hunt with and my SIG P229 in .40/.357. I may bring my 10-22 and P22 with the suppressor. Lots of ammo, lots and lots of ammo.  If there are any experienced FAL smiths I would like to talk with you about a few mods I would like to make to it. Bob |

a big +1 for aimsurplus. I placed an order from some guatemalen ammo. on sunday i called today to check the status. they said they are backed up and I wouldn't get it till next week. Tim bumped me up so hopefully i will get it on Friday  So hopefully i will have some guatemalen ammo for our shoot on Saturday

As far as the mud goes, it could be a lot worse. If I recall correctly, the lower range is atleast "mostly" grass, compared to the upper main range which is 100% dirt. Also, "most" of the shooting line area under the cover is gravel. I do think on one end the gravel was kind of thin, but not sure exactly. There will be tarps there so folks can lay down prone and not get wet Also, the road down to the lower range is all gravel, and the parking area is grassed over, not just a mud bog. I don't anticipate it to be too bad, but I guess I really won't know until I get down there. Weatherwise though, it does look like the rain will be over sometime Friday, and the temperatures should be in the 50's for Saturday, at least that's the report right now. Regardless of everything, I'd reccomend folks to bring some boots if they plan on going down range, I just don't know how muddy the lower range will get downrange. |

I got 2 maybe 3 coming with me......Bringing hamburger, buns, and chips....We need conidements... AR, AK, UZi, FAL, and the .50---Upper range only..... I also have a standard Bushmaster A2 upper (no bolt) that I would be willing to part with for the right price (billions). Does anyone have connections with department stores where we could get some mannequins--Fun to shoot at!! |
