Really, there NEEDS to be more that one. I know the lower range is fairly small, but if any of you guys talk to Kenny, do your best to get him to drag two or three down there. It's not long 'til you're just shooting through the holes. If you haven't seen this, try hitting the lower range on Sunday during the machinegun shoot after the targets have been there all Saturday. I'm thinking I'll be there if I take off Friday and stay at a hotel for the night. That way, I can tell the wife it's a "vacation." That sound better than "gun shoot." |
Yup, I hear what you're saying, but the car targets aren't free to get and then get taken away once they're obliterated, lol. If I had my way we'd have 1 car and 1 school bus per shooter. KCR themselves aren't providing the car target, but they are providing the contact, and especially no extra charge for reserving the lower range all to ourselves. I really don't want folks here to have to pay anything more than just the basic $9 range fees that Kenny and KCR require of us. Therefore, I think the one car will suffice. Think of it as a bonus as opposed to no car  Besides, isn't it part of the fun just to see how friggin' ragged you can make the car, hehe.As I mentioned before though, everyone is welcome to bring any targets of your own, as long as you take away what you bring. There will also be 2 cases of tannerite provided for as many shootes as it will accomodate, let alone just the spectator fun  |

Hey ChopperBob. Not sure, but you might be thinking about the regular Knob Creek machinegun shoot since you are mentioning that you'r looking for ammo deals. We'd love to have you join us at our shoot, but you might be dissapointed if your looking for ammo deals. The regular infamous biannual Knob Creek Machinegun Shoot is Oct. 13th, 14th and 15th. We are having a KY ar15.com Hometown Forum get together shoot ( of course other states are invited and welcome ) later that month on Oct.28th. I'd hate to see someone make a mistake and think they are showing up to the regular Machinegun shoot on our Oct.28th date |

Good deal, glad we got that straightened out. I appologize for not making it more clear in my initial posts. You are not the only one that has gotten confused by this, I'm trying to make it more clear from now on and have edited the first announcement. Enjoy the MG shoot when you come, Knob Creek puts on quite a show

BeaterAR, I've been going to the regular Machinegun Shoots since around '97. I think there has only been maybe one year that I didn't go to atleast either the Fall or Spring shoot. I'm sure there are a lot of guys here that have been going longer than I, but I have never had a bad experience with rude people, at least not to the point it sounds like you have. Try going to the Machinegun Shoots on the Friday instead of Saturday, a somewhat smaller crowd, it's just a bit easier to get around, YMMV. Wheatie, that is just wrong, what kind of a sick sob wants to shoot up a good keg?!?!?  Although, if you want a good beer AFTER the shoot, there are some real classy joints real close to the range, just look for the pink buildings, lol.  Oh yeah, welcome to the site, wheatie! |

I have never had a problem with rudeness or safety at the machine gun shoot either. Some of the dealers are... well, they act like dealers, but what can you say? It is a gun show. But to compare ARFCOMers to the general public at a machine gun shoot is just not fair.  I have not seen any rude behavior at ANY shoot I have attended. Bob |
 If people really want to go to that type of establishment, one of co-workers brothers is the manager at PT's. I'm sure I can work something out.

To be honest, it had been mentioned to me before about the possiblity of doing something like that, I think it was Ky_Bob that had mentioned that he had been involved with other shoots before that did that. I kind of forgot about it. Not sure what Kenny would say, don't they have a grill open at the shop during business hours? If the interest is there, and it would be ok with KCR, this would be a possiblity. I'm sure we could get something together for going in on some food. So, Vengarr, how's your cooking skills, lol?

Hello everyone. I am really looking forward to meeting each of you at the shoot. I have attended a lot of these functions around the US and over time have developed a general safety guideline. I ran it past Stump and he has asked me to post it. So here it is. This way everyone will have a general idea of what is expected and how things will work. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to email or IM me and not post in the thread as I do not want this organizational thread turn into a debate about range rules. As I said before, I can't wait for this shoot to happen. Stump did a little reconnoitering today at the machine gun shoot and I am sure he will jump in here shortly with a range report. General Safety rules 1) Always obey the 3 basic rules of safety. Here is a refresher. 1) ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction 2) ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot 3) ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use 2) The firing line The firing line will be clearly marked with yellow caution tape. All shooters should fire only from the line. Your toes should be touching the line unless you are shooting prone then the muzzle should be acroos and downrange of the line. Belt fed weapons will of course sit back from the line with muzzles over the line. No loaded weapons on the range except on the line. This means that magazines are inserted into weapons at the line and removed before leaving the line. Ensure the weapon is unloaded before leaving the line. No one crosses the firing line without it being cleared. 3) Clearing the firing line Clears will be sounded with an air horn. No one crosses the line until all participants acknowledge the clear. No changing of targets without a clear. Weapons should not be handled during the clear, loading magazines is fine. 4) Eye and ear protection is required. Shooting other people weapons One of the best parts of these shoots is shooting other peoples weapons. There is nothing like trying out a rifle or pistol you have been eying before actually buying it. Any arrangement you come to with the other person is fine but there are some “rules of etiquette” if you will. Most all Class III owners will let you shoot their weapons for the asking provided you supply the ammunition. Some of the most generous owners will even supply ammunition, but if you think about it, this can get prohibitively expensive at a larger shoot when they are handing out free 30 round magazines of .223 ammunition to anyone who asks. So be prepared to offer to shoot your own ammo. Some owners are pickier than others and may have requirements such as brass cased factory ammo only, or no “brand X” ammunition or no reloads. Considering the amount of $$ invested in these weapons I think that is more than understandable. |

Bob, thank you much for your help and agreeing to be the safety guy for us all. We all need to pay attention to the guidlines and adhere to them, and also just be aware that anyone we may bring with us adheres to them as well. We're going to have a good time blowing up and shooting the crap out of the targets, but we want to be safe at the same time. For most of us, these guidlines are common sense, but it's always a good idea to refresh our memories. I went to Knob Creek today for their big Machine Gun Shoot. It was a great showing for a Friday, and while I was there I scoped out the lower range we will be using for our Ky shoot together on the 28th of this month. I had no idea, but Knob Creek has built a very nice covered shelter for the shooting line on our lower range. This just makes the lower range an even better situation for us than I even realized. The shoot is now only 2 WEEKS AWAY  I hope everyone has stocked up on ammo, lol. - Jeff

Well that's great,vengarr, but our shoot is on the 28th I tried to get up with Kenny this afternoon, since it was raining I thought maybe he wouldn't be too busy with the clean up from the weekend, but he wasn't around when I called. I'll get with him in the next day or two and post our final information for the shoot and what exactly will be available for us all. |
| I noticed that people have mentioned bringing .50 cal bolt guns to the shoot. It has been my experience that Kenny (KCR) will allow any weapons up to but not including .50 cal on the lower range. I've only seen .50's allowed on the main (upper) range. Also, tracers are typically not allowed on the lower range. If those of you kind enough to organize this get together could get clarification on these two issues, it might save a couple shooters from packing prohibited ordnance. Also, for those who have never seen the lower range, I believe it's somewhere around 100-yds. from the line to the backstop. Thanks again to those who are making this possible. I plan to be there to meet all of you. We should all pray for the weather to cooperate as well. |

Thanks, number1goofball. I saw the signs this past weekend on the lower range that mentioned Up To .50, but I didn't notice the including .50 part. I will get verification on this from Kenny. I tried to call him today, but no answer as they are always closed on Tuesdays. I figured I'd give it a shot anyway, I'll try back tomorrow morning. |

Forgot to mention as well, when I first contacted Kenny about getting the lower range all to ourselves, I asked him waht kind of restrictions are there on the lower range as opposed to the main range. He told me at that time pretty much everything that goes for the main range, goes for the lower range. Like I said though, I will check to make sure, but I think .50 is allowed, maybe just not during the official Machinegun Shoot. |
| Thanks in advance for clarifying the .50 Stump. I would hate to lug that thing down there and not be able to use it. I also have a question for those bringing FA items that would allow me to shoot them. Since there might be several different calibers would it be ok if I just paid you on a per mag basis? 30 round mag=$10-$15.... I figure this would be easier than trying to guess which calibers to bring. |

I have run into this in the past. Since I try to live and learn, I will have 5.56 ammunition that is acceptable to fire in my M16 for sale. you will have to bring your own 9mm if you want to try the 9mm upper. Winchester White Box from Wally world in bulk is probably the cheapest ammo you can buy. Bob |

cgcg97, I just got off the phone with Kenny, and unfortunately the rule is no .50 and over. I'm very sorry I didn't know this ahead of time, I sincerely appologize. Of course though, you can shoot the rifle all you want up at the main range at any time of the day while you're there, as your $9 range fee covers both ranges for your use at any time you want. Sorry for the bummer news. |
