the 550 is off to the races. started on the WU the 520 left off on and looks like its gonna finish it off in an hour.
so far it looks like a WU that took the GT 520 18-20 hours will get chewed up in about 3 1/2 by the 550. mikey likes The new power supply is very nice. Gold box and bag for the extra cables. partially modular so the cables will tidy up nicely. |

I am in as well. Two AMD machines, dual and quad core. One has a GeForce 8900GTX and the other a 8800GTX.

My stats
Does anyone know why I jump up/down so much in points per day? I have both the GPU and the quad core folding. In my history, I had to stop folding in Nov due to getting a new graphics card that wasn't supported in F@H yet, now I'm back folding with it but I fluctuate between 4k and 6k points per day. I really need to play around in Linux more and get my Mythbuntu box folding whenever it is not doing anything... Kharn |

Clunkers for WUs? I have one right now, TPF on my GT520 went from 25min to 1hr.

I'm in.
Threw it on a few of my computers, having some issues with the linux one tho... I installed it and when it finished I closed the install box... now I can't find it ANYWHERE! Tried re-installing, same thing... Anyone running Debian who installed it that could point me to it? Also, I put it on a computer running a pair of AMD 6970's that are NOT crossfired... is it going to be faster if I crossfire them? |

I had a problem when I installed it on my mythbuntu box and couldn't find it again, but I'm a total linux n00b so I was doing it with step by step instructions.
I keep forgetting to unpause F@H when I stop playing BF3. |

Currently have folding@home running on my ps3, and using my over the hill 260gtx on my desktop. I also have boinc running milkyway and seti on the laptops and the cpu only of my desktop.
I have a few other computers hanging around I'll probably get set up and running over the next little while. I'm currently around 100th place on the arfcom folding team

If you want to tweak it a bit you can set it to advanced setting and play with it a bit. You may also want to consider the boinc client, you can choose what cause you want to contribute towards. There are plenty of astronomy, physics and health related jobs. |

I just downloaded the client and started running it, I may have an old laptop but it's something.

I noticed the new client handles multi core, single core, and gpu all in one installation
although it doesn't seem to have options to reduce it to less than 100% usage like the older versions did. I prefer to run it at less than 100% for heat reasons, although right now even with it being in the high 80sF in my room my cpu's hottest core is only 53C and my gpu at 65% fan is only 62C I am getting some lag in open apps though due to the cpu usage edit: found it, you have to set the drop down in the upper right to expert and then go to configure and it has additional options |

I like the new client. I have found that I can run almost anything without interruptions. FAH is pretty good about stepping aside...

On my Crunchbang10 install which is Debian based, the folder is found in ~/.folding In ~/.folding, use ./fah6 to start (with appropriate flags!). Hope this helps! #! machine is running the SMP client on an C2D for about 2K ppd. ETA - I dislike this behavior, but with the SMP client on #! I found that the CPU process (via conky) uses only half the processor when using the internet. CPU usage drops to 50% max while the Iceweasel browser is open. That's not good when you are running SMP on a dual core machine! Close the browser, and utilization climbs back up to ~100%. Now I have to keep the browser closed all the time on this laptop, which is also used for streaming music through Subsonic. Not a good thing. Anyone ever see that behavior? |

Glad to see the Team moving up in the rankings, I should start up the dowstairs heater...
Well that didn't last long, Thought I would upgrade with P5N-T so I could run multiple GPUs and spent 8 hours with one problem after another and it's still not up yet...We'll see if we can get it going again this weekend :( |

FahCore 17 has been released. 17 has been completely rewritten, uses OpenCL and increases GPU folding performance (more PPD)
Nvidia based cards, Kepler and later along with some Fermi can see about a 20% increase in points but require a single CPU core for each GPU to run. ATI cards can see a 100% increase in points and no longer require a CPU core for each GPU. My ASUS 650ti averages about 15k-18k ppd with Core15 and 20k-25k ppd with Core17. To run Core17 WUs you need to set the GPU folding slot parameter to "client type" and "advanced". |

my PPD has tanked on a steady diet of 8018 WUs. 5700 points each and I am lucky to slog through 5 a day :(.

gahhh... avoid the latest driver updates (331.58 and 331.65) from Nvidia.
320.49 ran like a raped ape, but crashed at random. Going to give 326.80 Beta a spin. . . . More bad luck. Rolling back to 314.22 |

Out of curiosity what GPUs are you running?
I have 2 ASUS 650ti and 1 EVGA 550ti in a single box, pulls between 400-425 watts total. No CPU folding due to Fahcore17 using one core per GPU. |

Your CPU folding may be starving your GPUs. Assuming you have a hyperthreading quad, what happens if you change CPU from -1 to 4 (or 2)? Does your GPU output improve?
Would not try changing this setting in the middle of a WU. I had mine dump projects before goofing around. |

I recall trying that when Core17 was first released. Didn't notice much of a change one way or the other. I'll give it another shot and see what happens.
|
|
|
You could just pause the CPU for a day and see if your usage goes back to 12% per GPU and your PPD goes up along with it.

Thanks brother, that worked like a charm! Changed from SMP -1 (effectively 8) down to 4 and saw ppd increase over the course of an hour.
The gain in GPU folding erased any CPU loss. Two of the Core17 processes are at 12-13% full time. The third (pretty sure that's the GT 640) mostly hovers between 0-3%... only once caught it pegged at 13%. Good to know they have the headroom to do it now. |
|
|
Cool, glad I could help.
If you have a monster CPU, I would consider limiting the GT640 to core15 projects to free up a your CPU a bit. 2 logical cores to service the core17 and 6 logical for SMP, which may mean 3 or 4 FPU depending how your CPU hyperthreads. Because most of the points generated by core17 are quick return bonus, and if the 640 is slow, you may be able to pick up more points by getting a better quick return with the CPU. Because there is so much variation in PPD with Core17, you may have to let changes go for a couple of days to determine which is the best way to go. |

I tried that a couple weeks ago. With the 8900 WU, the GT640 will do 5,757 ppd on Core15 and around 10,400 on Core17.
Going from SMP 8 to 4 resulted in a loss of maybe 500 ppd ... so for now it doesn't pay to switch. |
|

Have been stuck with 8018 WUs for four weeks now.
Anyone seeing other GPU projects or Core17 WUs? |

Steady stream of 7627s this last week.
Check out bollix47s post here: "If you're 'stuck' on core 15 try setting the GPU slot to Finish. When it's done Pause any other slots, quit and restart the client." Just tried it. Either it worked or I got lucky (got an 8900). Don't forget to disable your internet connection first or else FAH will just download a new WU as soon as the old one finishes. |

heh....I have had suspicions for a long time that there are issues with how work gets assigned. The standard "priority" statements are not reflected by reality.
I also see it as pretty weak that Pande is asking what the donors are seeing...hello? There have been many complaints about work assignment since Core17 was released and have generally fell on deaf ears. |

So at the beginning of the month my folding rig started to freeze and I suspected driver issues so I shut it down for after the Christmas spaz-out.
Did some driver cleaning this morning and started it up again. Seems to be ok so far but...wait for it....got assigned two brand new p8018 GPU killers. What the hell? This is getting annoying, I am starting to feel like donating my GPU cycles to something else :(. With cancer in the family I still want to do it but I wish they would sort out the issues. |

Glad to see you back. Plenty of folks shutting down until this all gets straightened out. I ended up downclocking the GPUs to keep temps cool.
Give bollix47's "kill internet / GPU finish / pause all / quit client / reconnect internet / run client" another try. Sucks babysitting a WU until it finishes, but it worked for me. What drivers are you using? The freezing & crashing sounds familiar. |
|
|
I think my issue is the motherboard. ASUS P5N-T, Nvidia 780i chipset, Win7. When I swap the MB out the problems go away but my other board only has one PCIe slot vs the three on the P5N-T.
One issue is that ASUS does not have Win7 chipset drivers, occasionally NVSTOR flips out and tries to reset the RAID device ( eventhough I have no RAID setup), multiple times a second. The problem gets worse until I have to reinstall the drivers. This causes lag spikes which leads to the other issue. If I fold with the CPU 100% I will get a hard freeze with no entry in the event logs. Sometimes it takes a couple of hours other times more. I think there is a heat issue on the board itself such that 100% utilization eventually leads to a freeze, whether the full utilization is due to unstable drivers or folding the result is the same. I will babysit this rig until I can upgrade. |
