Just dropped a bigadv is all. I am in the process of rebuilding my farm for my other team, so I figured I would drop a couple bigadv wu's over here while I wait for my new parts.

Set up F@H on my mythbuntu backend and my desktop PC, both run 24x7. I'm not quite sure if the Mythbuntu PC is using the Nvidia GPU or not, I'm not exactly Linux savvy and I barely managed to get it running. My desktop runs an ATI GPU so not much advantage there today.

I just got a new video card and now my folding client keeps crashing :(
Reinstalled and updated, no change. Switched from ATi to NVIDIA GTX 470 Any Ideas? |

Just in case anyone else upgrades to the GPU3 client and finds out they are "missing" cudart32_30_14.dll and it isn't in app data, here is a safe link to the .rar file which contains the .dll
I had a hell of a time finding it. cudart32_30_14.dll Edit- Splatsti this may have been your problem as well with your new card. I had to upgrade to the GPU3 client for my GTS450 and that's when I started having issues. |

Anyone know what happened to Nbons? He was cranking out 15k+ daily, but nothing for the last week?

So, question, stupid though it may seem.
I used to fold, replaced computer, want to fold again. Can I get the same username again, or do I have to put a 2 or something at the end of it? Apparently I can. I think I just did. |

I am looking at getting a new graphics card because my stock one sucks. What is the cheapest GPU that will actually work for this?

Will it use CPU over GPU if available and does it only start when idle?
I ask because I have 8 processors ready to be used.... |

The GPU client does utilize some of the CPU. I ran both and used WinAFC to assign the CPU client the first three cores, and the GPU client on the last core. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I *think* you can have these run @ idle...I'm sure someone that knows a bit more will come along eventually and correct or expand on this. |

There was a specific client for people with more than one CPU. I downloaded it and got it running- currently working on something with 500000 steps. My 8 CPUs are at 100% according to task manager so that's good I guess. |

Well I just saw this and was wondering what I could do with a 10 blade dell chassis.
(10)Dual quad core processors for a total of 80 cores. Should have it by the end of the year |

Alright, just got a new ATI 6850 video card, but apparently its not supported by F@H? I tried using the GPU2 client but its telling me that my driver doesn't work, if I start it in a DOS prompt with "-forcegpu 'r700'" it will start up, but if I quit and restart the program it won't reuse the argument.

I would like to contribute and have an old computer that is hanging around. Just has PCI slots and I can pick up a GT520 card for about $60.
Will it be able to get some work done or will it be pissing in the wind? |

I'm still getting cap whine from my GPU while folding...I'd get a lot more folding done while asleep if it weren't for that annoying shit.

I have an older E machines that I would not mind putting to use for folding. Is it worth getting a video card for it? It seems like all the ones I can find require a larger power supply than it has it only has a 250 watt. If anyone has an old video card that will work I could send a Pmag or two in trade.

Any of you using the new beta v7 GUI client? I am and my PPD is around 7000 right now compared to 3500 in the GPU3 client according to HFM.net. It's also giving me bigger/better WUs instead of the 511-point WUs the GPU3 client always gave me.
https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/FAHClient/wiki/WikiStart I'm only running it for GPU. Trying to figure out if I should get rid of my SMP2 client and run the v7 client on CPU as well. |

I've been using it. v7 is great.
It's going to do wonders for high performance mass adoption amongst the CLI averse crowd, and you still have the option of doing CLI only, or you can run it as a service (not for GPU though) |
|
|
Aww, my 7970 isn't supported.
[ETA] The beta client works. Now to see what that 7970 and an FX8150 at 4.4 ghz can do. (other than make this tiny room unbearably hot) |
|
|
In...running the CPU client...long story but the PCI GT520 isn't in the plan anymore.
When I upgrade my PSU I will switch to the GPU client and get some work done... |
|
|
I got waken up by posters falling on me from the heat in the room this morning. Processor is at 42c and the vidya card is at 66c.
I'm up to 137 in the ranking already. |
|
|
I'm in 68th place on the ARFCOM team list so far with a score of 37094 and 68 WUs.

Chugging through my first two WU's. I have a 7000 (7000000?) That looks like it's gonna take about 100hrs to complete. Is that normal for the x86 client?
WinXP sp3 32bit, intel Q8200... The other WU, 5000 (5000000?) is on the GT520 with the GPU client. Timer says 20hrs to complete. If anyone runs across a reasonably priced 460 or 560 gtx...I'm all ears :) |
|
|
Well I completed my first WU.

50th place. I go up 1-2 spots on the ladder every update. This new beta client and the higher-credit WUs it's giving me = win. I'm also running a passkey which I *think* is giving me a few bonus creds on each WU.

If the PSU can't supply enough power to the GPU then it will usually cause the computer to reboot or at least go in to that annoying VPU recovery mode(might just be for ATI/AMD cards). |

Looks like I'm back up and running, I like how the new client gives you a bit of information about what you're running.

The new video card says 400w reccomended on the box... I installed a gtx 550ti and was setting up the gpu client when the BIOS stopped windows and complained of an unstable power supply. Of course I rebooted and tried again. I ran some video benchmarks and the whole thing died. I took the psu out and tested voltages and two of the 5v read 0. Took the thing apart and one of the 5v lines had pulled out of the circuit board. The interior of the psu was a nightmare piece of crap, solder joints looked like absolute garbage so I threw it out. Ordered a 800w cooler master gold. Should be no more power problems. Hopefully I did not lose anything else. |
