"used" rem 700 LTR with Leupold 3.5-10 with Harris bipod and IBA mount and rings. All was new, guy purchased, got home, wife went sideways and he had to bring it back to the shop. I didn't work there, just a customer with cash and a quick turn for the owner who I knew.

700 for all of it. Sold the scope for 475, bipod for 100, IBA rings and base for 400 and traded the rifle straight up for a DSA ParaFAL
IBA-Iron Brigade Armory

Beat that--------

Best trade was going to a Gun Show with 2 M14 stripper clip guides, came out with 2 new Colt 20 round magazines, took about 10 trades

When I was in college a friend told me the local PD had a couple Thompson submachine guns they might dispose of.  I met with the Chief who confirmed it and arranged for an appointment with a Class III dealer to negotiate a deal.

He traded the Department two new S&W revolvers, drop shipped from Smith and Wesson with police discount in exchange for the two Thompsons.  Actual costs were $150 for each gun.  They were Auto Ordnance M1928AC guns sold to the PD in 1943.  My dealer friend kept one and I got the other for helping to arrange the deal.

The Department owned them for 30 years, as this deal occurred in 1973.  I still have mine, now in my possession for 49 years.  It was also my first machine gun, total cost including the $200 transfer tax...$350.

I must have the wrong look about me, because nobody ever haggles with me over anything.

My policy towards used guns is "if I'm not stealing, I'm not dealing". Basically, it means no used guns for me.

Around the fall of 2011, I rescued a Colt SP-1 carbine (circa 1980) that was sitting in a display rack full of LE/Govt roll marked 6920’s for 700.00. The 6920’s were priced at 1200.00. The SP-1 was all original, down to the factory black paint dabs on the staking marks on the buffer tube ring and black acetate covered aluminum stock.

It lives next to my dads underwood M-1 carbine, that he paid 20.00 for.

I was storing a nice smallblock Chevy for a friend who had no place to store it.  When I was moving, I told him to come get it, he told me I could keep it.  It was a project, but had I beam rods, Trick Flow heads, etc., and I told him I couldn't just take it, so he sold it to me for $250.  I move, bring it with me.  I stopped by the gun store near work one day and see something I've lusted for years over, a Ruger Super Redhawk, 7.5" stainless with mohogany grips, 90's vintage safe queen for $850.  I plop down $100 to secure it, go home and list the engine on Craigslist for $1300.  Some guy offers me $800 for the heads, so I pull them and sell them, then go pick up the Ruger.  Kid I work with asks if I have a sbc shortblock, his friend needs one.  I said yes, I do, $500.  Kid doesn't have the cash, but offers up his Bushmaster AR-15 for trade.  Done deal.    I think I did okay with those deals.

Ruger M77 Hawkeye, 338 win mag in phenomenal shape, walnut stock.  Leupold 3x9 scope.  Plus about 400 rounds of ammo, all for $400.  the ammo alone was worth....a lot.  Its the only hunting rifle I own that I haven't harvested an animal with.

Side note, RIA 1911 GI, 9mm pawn shop fine, $119+tax.  Great shooting pistol. Phenomenal shooting pistol.

Ruger Security Six..  Pawn shop fine.  $300  Hit a clay pigeon at 50yds with it.  Great revolver.

The "Best Deal" is in the eye of the buyer.  If it's exactly what you've always wanted and you found it, may just be the best deal regardless of what you layed out for it.

Oh, and my Mosin that I paid $79 and hit a gong at 400 yds with open 1942 sights.  Now that was a 'find".

I was going to tell a similar story but you got me beat substantially.

Bought a pristine P7M8 in 2007 for $800 at a local gun shop. I think I could have probably turned around and sold it that day for at least $1200.

Still have it. I carried a P7 for about 12 years, but the P7M8 just stays in the safe.

Probably 15 years ago I was in a Gander Mountain and they had a NIB S&W M37 marked $189.00. I told the clerk to double check because it couldn’t be right. They got the store manager who said, “If that’s what it’s marked, that’s what it is.”

It rides perfectly in the concealed pocket of my Eberlestock Mission Brief iPad case.

Ran across a picture of another rifle that I have nothing but a little time in it.

This was one of only two pictures at an online auction by one of the largest premier auction houses in the northeast.

Attachment Attached File

I had an idea what it was, but also an interesting rifle.
Someone built a heavy barrel target rifle in .257 Roberts
With auction fees and shipping it got here for less than $225.00

What it is/was is a factory Oberndorf commercial action produced in 1903 and amazingly, no extra holes or other alterations in the intervening 115+ years,

I bought it with every intention of parting it out to sell the very rare action.
Pulled it apart and found it was a large ring, small barrel shank (Mauser details) and the more I looked at the parts, I thought it should have a second life.
Using a Turkish action (for the large ring small shank), I reassembled the rifle, as everyone needs a .257 Roberts target rifle.....

Attachment Attached File

Even with the cost of the Turkish action, FN bolt and classic Weaver 4-12x scope, this rifle paid me.
