Quoted: They're all vaporware for now, including NuScale's. Hopefully one or more become economically viable in the coming years, but right now, I see no reason anyone would choose these over gas turbines (economically). True, but looking at the decades of regulatory hurdles a design faces NuScale has made it the furthest. GE/Hitachi is a few years behind but with good support. That's about it. |

Quoted: To go along with the 5MW plant there already? Maybe share the power with Delta Junction? Quoted: Quoted: First AP300 unit is already sold: DOD will have it installed at Ft Greely, AK. To go along with the 5MW plant there already? Maybe share the power with Delta Junction? If what Positronic says is true, this will be the 2nd nuke at FTG. The first one was a SM-1A 2 MWe plant with first criticality March 1962. It was part of the US Army Nuclear Power Program: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Nuclear_Power_Program |

Quoted: It would take 110 large windmills to produce the same amount of power as one small 300 megawatt plant. The windmills would cost $440 million but only last 20 years (22 million a year). The nuke plant costs 1 billion but will last 80 years (12.5 million a year). Nuke plant has more consistent power output and is less of an eyesore on the environment. The compact nuke plant is more cost efficient but isn’t renewable so we will never see them go into production as long as liberals/rhinos have their way. Blah blah, don’t give a shit as long as the checks are rolling in and I can still raise cattle and crops on the same ground. Money is in the bank or being used to fund other projects. Doesn’t matter if they shut them off tomorrow. The more likely outcome will be generator and blade upgrades like are already planned. Eyesore? The area was already a wasteland. Not against nuclear but I definitely don’t want it on my property. |

As in forging the reactor vessel. Hardly vapor ware. Yeah they've building a demo. Until it puts MW's to the grid, it's vaporware in my book. Big Deal IMO. Anything that pisses in the eco-fucktards cheerios is good in my book. |

Fusion that goes boom vs fusion that can be used to generate electricity. |

True, but looking at the decades of regulatory hurdles a design faces NuScale has made it the furthest. GE/Hitachi is a few years behind but with good support. That's about it. NuScale hasn't made electrons yet. I'd venture they are 12 years from doing so. Until it makes energy it's unproven. Also... The design still has substantial civil-structural headache that wasn't resolved by going "SMR." They might have packaged some of the NSSS into modules, but NSSS wasn't what made the AP1000 expensive. It was the myriad concrete placements, pipe supports, raceway, and testing that dragged on. |

Quoted: No dude, they're a Fucking eye sore. Ugly as fuck and all the red blinking lights are ugly and annoying. On our trip down to South Padre to see the Great Elon Rocket Battleship launch, we drove into unfamiliar lands late at night. There were enormous fields of blinking red lights. They all flashed at the same time. Off in the distance, there were more flashing red lights that were simultaneously flashing at a different time. It was disorienting and unbeautiful. What the hell are those things? My God, what the fuck is that? Why the hell did someone spend lots of money to create something so annoying. We couldn't see the towers or blades. We had no idea. Eventually, we thought it must be towers, then it dawned on us that they were windmills. The blades don't have lights and they go much higher. We finally saw the lights were mounted on the generator hubs. What a trap. The flashing lights are many tens of feet below the blade tips. Sirens calling the winged flyers to come for a closer look. Putting lights on the blade tips would give a better idea of the height of the danger, but God that would be even more horribly annoying. This goes on every night. Disturbing. |

I just stay in at night and count money till the sun comes up. Lol! Hey, all kidding aside, I can understand how somebody not profiting from them might feel they are less than desirable. I don’t know what to tell those people. I kind of feel the same about solar. We have had offers to install solar projects on our land and have turned them down. Once that shit goes in you can’t use the property for anything else. But the way farmers and ranchers get screwed at every turn I can’t blame them if they open the door for it either. I feel their pain. If it isn’t the government it’s the freaking state with its hand out at every turn. Totally rigged system. Don’t get me started on having to come up with $998,000 in inheritance tax in a year. I don’t feel bad at all about you having to look at some blinking red lights. Sleep like a baby in fact. |

Quoted: I have a Westinghouse power washer in my garage. Great piece of equipment. Hopefully I love long enough to own my own reactor. I'll buy a Westinghouse. How old is the power washer? Read my posts above (pg1&pg2) "Westinghouse" post 2000 is just a brand different companies slap on their products. The "Westinghouse" we grew up until the 1990s has been scattered to the wind, I hear all the time people nostalgic for Westinghouse and they buy a "Westinghouse" to realize the warranty is with Toshiba, Siemens, Schindler, etc. and it may actually be a piece of crap, might be good but not often. Interested to know if you bought the power washer pre-2000. |

Quoted: As someone not used to thinking in terms of large scale power generation megawatt = ? Households ? The average reported, which I think is a big lie, is around 900 kWh per month which comes out to 30 kWh per day or a constant 1.25kWh 24x7. I live in a smaller old inefficient house and use 1800-2500 kWh a month. That' is 2-3 times the average. Using the average 1 mW plant would power 833 houses. Using my worst case numbers it is 288 houses. The 300 mW plant would power 86,400 to 249,900 houses. |

Quoted: The problem is going to be security. More reactors means more opportunities for bad guys. Lots of ex-mil and LEO that would jump at the chance for a well-paying security gig. Security on nuke plants is no joke, it takes a little more than abu hajar in a rented box truck to be a problem. |

Quoted: Westinghouse did go down and out . . . scattered to the wind. BUT the only thing remaining is the Nuclear and Nuclear industrial supply division and I think its a 50/50 with Toshiba. Consumer electronics and appliances went to Siemens. Broadcasting with the old Group W TV and Radio stations bought CBS then became CBS. Power generation and services went to ABB. Elevators/Escelators went to Schindler. Transport went to ThermoKing. They spun off 7Up (yep they owned 7up!) Rail services (switching and devices and also subway and light rail equipment) and some of the industrial supply stuff were spun off into Wabtec (MotivePower) and WesCo International respectively (both Fortune 500 corporations in their own right now). But they are still Westinghouse on the Nuclear stuff. Interesting break down of how one of America's 20th century behemoths is now big chunks of ABB, Siemens, Schnidler, CBS, MotivePower and Wesco: Who Killed Westinghouse? The writing’s on the wall, it’s on you if you don’t want to read it. |

This would only become a reality if the left/globalists figure out a way that it gives them more power and or wealth and helps them control people. They really don't give 2 shits about the climate change hoax they created only that its a way to gain power, wealth and control. Thus that's the only way this becomes common in any way but it must be looked at through that prism. I'm not seeing how they can cash in or gain power from this or control peoples lives more so it's not going to become common place for those reasons. Does it help Communist China? There's your sign. |
