Look for El Dorado.

http://theeldoradorum.com/

I like the 12 or 15 on the rocks. I use the less aged for mixed drinks.

I'll keep an eye out for those. The last time I looked for rum I could only find mass advertised stuff ( Bacardi, Malibu, etc. ) , so I was surprised when I saw Appleton and Mount Gay on the shelf .

General rum question. I have only had Capt Morgan ( hate spiced) and Bicardi. Been looking to try some sipping rum to go with my cigars and such. My question is. How similar is the flavor to whiskey. I ask because I got alcohol poisoning when I was teen off a scotch. Since then I really can't touch any whiskey, scotch, bourbon etc.

I prefer Panamanian Rums

Zafra 21
Ron Abuelo Centuria

Are two very fine rums

The regular bumbu (clear bottle with a gold X) is like candy. Very vanilla and crazy smooth. Every time me and my buddy crack a bottle in each other's presence, it gets demolished in one sitting (and we get in trouble with our wives. Totally worth it.)

Wow thanks for the reply. I will have to start researching it
TYPICALLY the darker rums are heavier and sweeter with less ethanol burn.

Easiest to find sweeter options (that I've had) are Zacapa, Dos Maderas, Papa's Pilar, and RL Seale.
Pyrat is super sweet to me, but makes a really interesting rum old fashioned.

Towards the higher proof end that drink like a Bourbon are pretty much anything from Foursquare.
The younger Flora De Cana tend to come across harsh to me, I prefer 18 and up for sipping.

Opinions varytm
