All of my purchases for the last 6 months with the exception of Luxardo Amaretto, has been bourbon. Today I came home with this. I've heard pretty good things. Attached File |

Post Tasting Review Done with 1 large cube in a rick glass. (That's the way I like my bourbon as well) Attached File Very nice. Nose has a very sweet smell. Closest I could place it was a brown sugar with a hint of wood. Sweet to the taste, with a fairly thick mouth feel, but not overly thick where it becomes unpleasant, and it dissipates very quickly. I did not notice any lingering. Has a quick finish with not much lingering aftertaste. Very nice pour, and highly enjoyed. |

This is darker and I would be willing to spend $40 to try it. Sounds like it tastes good. Though the candy description is a little offputting. @Justsayin do you find it sweeter than Bourbon? |

Most rums I've had are sweeter than bourbon, imo, with the possible exception of the high proof Foursquare yearly offerings. This is fairly sweet, however, probably in line with Pyrat, but with a much heavier brown sugar note. I had a second pour last night and liked it more than the first. I'll probably replace the bottle when it's empty. I like Sagacity from Foursquare more, it's very similar, just not as sweet, but more expensive. |

With the possible exception of that "baby bourbon" made up north that shall not be named......  I had to cut that half with old grand dad just to use as a mixer. |

We have liked the different kinds of Appleton for years, started when a resort chain we like partnered up with them. Everything from their estate base brand for mixing, to their reserve and 12 year for sipping. However, Wray closed the cane fields in Jamaica this year and sold them off, and is shipping in bulk molasses from elsewhere. Not sure how that will change the taste. |

I am VERY new to rum I recently got into cocktail making and I am experimenting with new drinks all the time, most of this has been in the Whiskey and Gin areas I am wanting to get into rum based and tiki cocktails I picked up a bottle of Bacardi white rum yesterday I am looking for 2-3 bottles to add to the collection that will be versatile for making drinks, I was thinking of a dark rum, jamacian run, and something else if I may need it. I am not looking to break the bank as far as price, any advice on what to get? |

I'm a bit weird, but I drink rum neat. I like Pussers gunpowder proof and Wray & Nephew overproof for that. I would guess Meyer's dark would make a good mixer for Tiki drinks. I would assume any generic white like Bacardi would be fine for mixing.. ETA I'm also poor, so anything more expensive than Ron Rico would be poured neat

| I've never been a rum guy, always more into whiskey. A fella at work who drinks rum almost exclusively brought me a bottle of Bumba. I don't know where it falls on the rim knowledgeables scale, but compared to my limited exposure (captain morgan), it's different and pretty enjoyable so long as you've got a sweet tooth. I think exploring some nicer rims is in my future. |

I am not looking to break the bank as far as price, any advice on what to get? If you want to get in to tiki and rum I strongly suggest buying a copy of Smugglers Cove by Martin Cate. It has a ton of great recipes and more importantly has a great chapter that attempts to categorize different rums in a meaningful way....which is tricky because unlike bourbon or scotch there are almost no rules for rum. For Jamaican I'd say avoid blended rums. Pot still with the full overripe banana funkyness is where they really shine. I like Plantation Xaymaca and Smith and Cross. Xaymaca is cheaper and is super funky. Smith and Cross is like $6 more but the trade off is that it's overproof. For dark rum just go with any of the 8-10 year El Dorado or Plantation blended rums. If you want to be adventurous get a Rhum Agricole. It's made from fresh sugar cane juice rather than molasses which gives it a grassy flavor. For blanc I like Neisson and for aged go with Rhum JM. If you end up liking Jamaican pot still and Rhum Agricole, the best Mai Tai you'll ever have uses .5oz Rhum Agricole blanc and 1.5oz Plantation Xaymaca. |
