That's an awful long way for a wave to travel.

Edit: With a big ass deep trench in between.

I think we are all forgetting what's really important here.

We already have 2 threads on the subject, and somehow this chickenguy thinks he can call HIS noob thread the "official " one?

Shame!

In a chain of islands that acted like a funnel for the waves.  This is open ocean, with a big-ass trench in between.

Nevermind, I was thinking of the wrong place.  It killed people in Madagascar?  Somalia?  Didn't know that.  But how hard is it to kill someone there?

How deep is the water where that tsunami was vs the Atlantic Ocean?

Lots of rich and important people bought island and coastal properties on the East coast.  Many of the same were chanting the “climate change” mantra at every opportunity.   To them, I say:

“Surf’s up, pal!”

there is water in the trench bro...it's not like the trench already filled with water is going to allow more water in?

Also...as the wave moves into shallower water that water rises and rises.

The wave moves through the water, a trench will do nothing to slow it down.

Yeah, it did. alot of mountains in the Indian ocean and it did nothing to stop it.

Also washed up a shit load of waste on to the beaches, LOL.

Interesting. Didn't know that.  I just figured the deeper the ocean, the less a wave could build up to become something dangerous.

If they got all the people in Guam to tip their island over and create a counter-wave, the east coast could be saved.

Also the Atlantic has fewer undersea mountains and few if any in the place of the Northeast.

Depth of the water has no bearing on the energy content of a wave.

It's more of a shock wave like a sound wave from an explosion.  Energy transfer is very different than the sloshy surface waves.  Find that video of the Japanese boat going over the one in the 2014 quake there.
