Imagery Date says 4/6/2021 which I assumed meant June 4 of last year.  Hopefully there will be some nice before and after pix once the smoke clears...

I know the Russians are hard headed, but hasn't it occurred to them that the entire rest of the civilized world is rooting for them to lose?  And many of them are sending weapons and cash to Ukraine?

To the Russians, that would be a distinction without a difference, even if true. They're basically going to blame everything they can on NATO, for reasons of pride and propaganda.

Someone up-thread made the argument this invasion is not 100% about NATO, despite what Putin claims.

I agree:

- there is a long list of reasons:  Putin wants Ukraine’s resources; Putin wants to restore the evil CCCP / USSR; Putin expands / invades wherever he sees an opportunity ( Chechnya, Georgia, Crimea, etc); Putin has the historical mental paranoia all Russians harbor and wants “buffer states” (which is dumb in the nuclear age)  Putin is jealous of the west, etc.

But the list does include Putin’s hate / fear of NATO.  Even if he did not hate NATO, he would use it for propaganda value:

- many Russians were very opposed to NATO’s bombing of Belgrade, Serbia.

How ironic that just this week, even Serbia has turned on Putin.

I believe everything points toward Putin headed for a fall from power.

Probably a violent end to his miserable life, soon.

That whole scene is fucked up.

Dude #1 uses the evasive tactics of a locomotive and goes straight down the track at constant speed.
Dude #2 eventually stops -- looks like he was hit also or MAYBE he's going back to help?
Dude #3 is confused, but has the most energy of the four, and decides to apply it to discretion over valor.
Dude #4 shouldn't have ever gotten out of the boat. Damn right.

If I'm the drone operator and I have another round, I'll go after #3. He has energy and initiative.

There's my new rule: Never show a drone that you have potential.

You can see that the hood/grill is a giant Bondo job when you blow the picture up.

It looks likes there are jackstands or steel posts under the front suspension...

God only knows where the russians found this truck or pieces and patched them together.

Not sure if it's been commented, but the lead guy is already carrying a wounded fellah, and the 2nd dude to collapse was actually NOT one of the two guys closest to the explosion.  He was 2nd in line from the left, and seems to have taken a hit to the right cheek.

By all accounts, there's five guys in that video and four are not having a good day.

The data seems to be showing that Ukraine's strategy of clobbering ammo depots and C2 HQs with long range strikes appears to be taking the wind out of the Russian sails.

Is that a repeated assumption, or do you have data that bears it out?

Given that there has been a marked decrease in the number of data points on the Ukrainian side of the battle lines since Ukraine stepped up their attacks on Russian ammo depots, it isn't an assumption. Further, since location of the destroyed Russian "stuff" are in precisely the same location as the FIRMS data indicates (although some of the FIRMS data is 750m and others are 350m), it isn't an assumption. For that matter, when Ukraine has talked about where Russia lobbed a missile, that has shown up in the FIRMS data in that location as well. So, it's not a one-sided data set nor is it an assumption.

ETA: There is the drawback of thick cloud cover obscuring the fires data but that applies equally to both sides. So, a "quiet" day on FIRMS isn't necessarily a "quiet" day on the battlefield, it could just be there is significant thick cloud cover over the area.

Yeah, it looks pretty bad if you know what you're looking at.

And I noticed the stands as well. Guess the tires are flat and they're having a tough spot getting some new Bajas from BF Goodrich. Suppose they're not too interested in Chinese tires these days either.

Almost all republicans? WTF? Bizarro world. What’s to lose from having real armies join nato? Maybe compromised by Russia, I am beyond sad to see this. I can’t see a downside, economically those countries are going to need western kit, especially Finland. They have robust defenses, at least Finland does. Maybe kick Hungary out? I wonder how they voted on those ascensions?

With good ammo it’s as good as any free floated match barrel bolt gun out there. I believe we supplied barrels blanks to them at one point. Wait that’s Osiris but they can make straight rifle barrels they bought Zeiss optical equipment to check measurements, Steyr hammer forges, vihtacouri and lapua where partially owned in majority by a Russian oligarch long enough to siphon off modern propellant and bullet construction.

It's too low resolution to get a really good look but what are the odds those are Bushmaster rollmarks on those M4s? It almost looks like they could be.

Probably a bunch of the Georgian capture rifles from way back.

I don’t think so, I’m afraid it’s a case of playing opposition for the sake of opposition, the echo chamber effect, Russian compromise of some, and tickling gun owner’s and conservatives pootties. I’ve been floored by the number of people who actually think carts of cash go to president Zelensky with Biden skimming 10%.

DAMN.
This is what remains of the SBU building

In occupied Lysychansk, about 100 Russian troops could die as a result of explosions – Gaidai

As a result of the explosions in occupied Lysychansk, about 100 Russian servicemen could have died, the head of the Luhansk regional military administration said on Radio Liberty.

He did not provide details, but noted that official confirmation from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should soon appear.

"And the partisans work or carelessly smoke some kind of smoking. In Lysychansk, there was also "cotton" today, and I think that we will still be pleased with information about about 100 dead non-ordinary soldiers of another army corps of the Russian Federation. These are no longer "Wagnerians", they are already the regular army of the Russian Federation," Sergey Gaidai said on the air of the Svoboda Live program.

Inside Ukraine’s captured nuclear plant, the sounds of explosions — and constant fear

The workers were among six from the plant who spoke to The Washington Post, describing the daily terror of working at the nuclear facility that Russia has used as a shield for its attacks in recent weeks.

Five of them had fled to Ukrainian territory in recent days and weeks as engineers and operational staff members join columns of cars leaving, adding worker shortages to a long list of concerns about the plant’s functioning.

Their accounts provide a window on the deteriorating security situation at the plant, which has triggered global concerns about the potential for a nuclear catastrophe. Some Ukrainian officials say stirring panic could be precisely Moscow’s aim, in the hope that international pressure will force Kyiv to make territorial concessions. Others say they fear Russia is laying the groundwork for a “false flag” attack it will blame on Ukrainian forces.

For the staff, that adds another layer of peril and fear to an already extreme working environment since Russian troops seized the plant six months ago. Since then, staff members have disappeared, camera phones have been banned and representatives of Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear energy company, have been present at company meetings.

“Everything has changed. Our lives have flipped upside down,” Svitlana, 53, who worked as an accountant for the plant, said as she and her extended family arrived in Ukrainian territory south of Zaporizhzhia. The journey of 75 miles takes families as long as four or five days, with large traffic jams at Russian checkpoints where soldiers search cars and phones.

In the months since it was seized, the plant’s Ukrainian workers describe the Russian troops in control becoming increasingly paranoid. At one point, they requested that cooling pools be emptied as Russians hunted for weapons that could be used against them, but backed down after being informed of the dangers.

Ten employees are missing, according to Energoatom, the Ukrainian operator of the plant. A 30-year-old, who also worked on equipment repairs, said one worker was taken at the gates as he left work and hasn’t been seen since.

“Every day, there was a thought: ‘Will I come back home today?’” he said. “You are constantly in danger.”

Andriy Tuz, a spokesman for the plant who warned about the risks of incoming Russian fire when the plant was captured, appeared in a video posted by Russian media outlets in late June saying he retracted his statements.

In the video, in which he appears to read from a script, he says he is on “holiday” in the Russian city of Sochi. “It’s very beautiful here, very friendly people,” he said. “Now I understand that this information was false,” he said of his statements.

Residents say that Russian forces have become more paranoid since the Russian-installed head of the city’s administration was injured in an explosion.

“It feels like everything has ears, and if you say something, you might get kidnapped,” said one engineer at the plant who left last week.

Workers say they grapple with the decision of whether to stay or go.

“We were taught that even if there is a nuclear explosion, you have to stay until the last,” said the 40-year-old who works servicing equipment. He estimates that only around 10% of workers doing similar jobs to his remain.

“They are so stressed, they are not even sleeping at night,” he said. “The boiling point is really high. There is no connection to your family when you are at work. All you hear is the outgoing. You don’t know what’s happening.”

I suspect that Russia still fires more, but Ukraine is firing more effectively.

Kherson

In Kherson, the occupiers set up a torture chamber, where they hold the kidnapped mayor - the district council

The occupiers of the aggressor country of Russia are known for torture of the inhabitants of the temporarily occupied territories.

Thus, in occupied Kherson, the Russian military staged a torture chamber in the basement of a receiver-distributor for children. Currently, 60-70 Kherson residents are being held there.

This was announced on the air of "Espresso" by the deputy chairman of the Kherson district council Stanislav Troshin.

"There's a lot of information coming in from this building right now. They are kept there. In total, more than 560 people have disappeared since February 24, more than 60 in this distributor. There's a lot of people out there," he said.

According to the official, the abducted mayor of Kherson, Igor Kolykhaev, is also in the torture chamber. "There is direct testimony from people who came out of there," Troshin said.

In poor conditions, Ukrainian activists, former military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ATO/JFO participants are being held in the basement.

"People are constantly trying to knock out some evidence. People come out with broken ribs, arms, legs. This is a mini analogue of "Izolyatsia" in Donetsk. In the 21st century, it is difficult to imagine," said the deputy chairman of the Kherson district council.

Members of the civil corps "Azov" were detained in Kherson. They prepared acts of sabotage in the city, collected and transmitted data about the Russian military, and planned to assassinate representatives of regional authorities. “At the beginning of the SVO [special military operation in Ukraine], I thought that [the Armed Forces of Ukraine] would blow up the bridges and we would remain calm in Kherson. But here two days, and the city is occupied by Russian troops. With me were guys with experience in military operations,  I had connections with the Security Service of Ukraine, with the main intelligence department”, said Vadym Kravchenko, the detained head of the local cell.

Probably a bunch of the Georgian capture rifles from way back.

ETA: Hell, could well be where the HMMWV came from too. They got a few of those too.

And I doubt they captured crates and crates of un-issued M4s.  Some battle-used ones here and there, yeah - but I don't believe they over-ran training or supply depots that far behind the lines, with fresh stocks.  They got those all somewhere else.

Plus, that revolver 2nd from the right in the red circle, that looks like a S&W 19 with combat grips, or something very similar.  I don't think that's issue anywhere in the DoD.  Probably has a brass label under it saying "CIA Assasination Gun."

Probably from a bother guard or police swat team. The m4s might be bushmasters from Georgia. The only ones I saw had acogs and were m4a1 s but idk their is stuff from all over, most of us probably gangster guns. Like the mp81 Austria sells glocks to anyone but to my knowledge is still playing both sides politically.

And Russia, the guilty pleasure.

Belgorod border schools and kindergartens will work remotely

BELGOROD, Aug 15 - RIA Novosti. In nine border municipalities, schools and kindergartens in a five-kilometer zone along the border in the new school year will conduct distance learning, Reports Press Service of the Government of the Belgorod Region.

In early August, the governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that schools and kindergartens located in the 5-kilometer border zone in five municipalities of the Belgorod region will be closed, and children will attend those schools and kindergartens that were determined by the municipal authorities.

It is specified that the possibility of transporting children to other schools located further from the border, if such a need arises, will be considered. Duty groups will work in kindergartens.

The schedule of work of educational institutions was approved by the governor during a meeting of the anti-terrorist commission of the region.
"We are responsible for our children. Therefore, I ask all employees of the authorities, whose duties include monitoring the safety of children, to focus as much as possible on the prevention of possible risks," Gladkov emphasized.

The Belgorod region has been repeatedly subjected to shelling from Ukraine, a yellow level of terrorist danger has been operating throughout the region since April 11.
