Also, they probably couldnt maintain the Abrams so maybe doing worse in a few months. The 72 is fine for 90% of what a 2nd World military needs a tank to do. |

I saw some mean kilometers between failure data for Abrams, older T-72s and older Leopard 2s. The Leo went twice as far as the t tank and when broken, was repaired in 60% of the time. That’s Polish to Polish. The Abrams data might not be directly comparable but it experienced a failure 4x less than the Leo. If you disregard the Abrams data, western designs are still more reliable and easier to repair.

As this situation develops over a handful of years (say the next 5) there will be serious tensions between regions that are politically invested in Russian hegemony and have nothing to lose (i.e. Moscow region) and regions on the periphery which could easily benefit from a change of ownership. Energy and resource-rich regions will be prime candidates, particularly when many have historical ties to neighboring countries already. The most immediate beneficiaries are Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan. Georgia and Azerbaijan have bad history with Russia, and Kazakhstan is asserting its political independence within the CIS - which IMO is not a coincidence. Kazakhstan is positioned to massively benefit from a Russian collapse and they have to know it. As to Nukes, Russia is a kleptocracy run for the benefit of a tiny number of oligarchs who have already sold Russia into a dire military and social situation. They would be equally willing to sell Russia’s nuclear arsenal piece by piece under the right conditions. 2)Nuclear decapitation strike against Russia. I rate the odds of this as “non-trivial.” No Moscow, few to no nukes. Russia’s neighbors will take what they want. |

In Germany, Scholz's team says explicitly that slow-rolling weapons and blocking others for Ukraine is because of how much they value their relationship to Russia.
Jens Plötner, the SPD's Russia specialist for a decade or more and Scholz's top foreign advisor, said that the status of their future with Russia was "at least as exciting and relevant" as any question about sending heavy weapons to Ukraine. Just to prove he didn't mis-speak, he went on to cover himself in further dishonor and shit by saying: - They are big fans of China, too, and want to treat them much more nicely. - Ukraine will get no favors with the EU just because Russia invaded them and are perpetrating genocide upon them. Many years ago my deceased Father's boss was a German War veteran. He was a motorcycle messenger on the Eastern Front. One day he was carrying a message to the front and saw a bunch of trucks coming at him. They yelled that the Russians were behind them.
He turned around behind them and had to dodge the spools of wire and whatever they were throwing off the trucks to go faster. He broke down and walked to a nearby farm house. The farmer took him in and they gave him cloths and burned his uniform. He was able to get out after a few months and was able to immigrate to the US. He hated Russians and always was talking about how evil they were. He saw the things they did. He was right. |
