80s cars sucked, look at houses built in the 50s to 70s when cars were absolute boats.

3....times 2.
The 2 bays on the left I removed the doors, walled it in and turned it into a shop, but there is a 2 port car port attached to the house, so I still have 6 bays worth of covered parking. Attached File |

pretty important.
my dream house is a super deep three cah garage with a loft apartment over it. |
|
Most of the homes in my neighborhood have three car garages. Many are so full of boxes and stuff that they still have to park on the driveway. I have a secret weapon, a suspended garage.

|
I just love all these mega garages people are showing off....good luck building one of those in as urbanish area. Guess I'm the poors
|
|
Very, even if the one I have is a joke.
It's more like a car and a half garage. |
|
I've never used a garage for anything more than a place to store boxes of shit I never unpack from house to house, and a motorcycle. I'd save my money or invest in a generator or solar.

Not that important to me. Now a 6 car barn would be nice...
In all fairness - the house I am currently designing will most likely have a 4 car garage, but am also considering adding a covered parking aria for another 6 or more vehicles. I need room to park a RV, tractor, skid loader, SxS, ATV, lawmower, 2 boats, jet ski... |

A friend of mine just bought a house with a four-car garage. Actually, it is two generous sized two-car garages; one with a small half-bath in it.
Pure winnage. |

Quoted: Anything less than 100 acres and you might as well buy an apartment. View Quote Lol, never going to happen. As much as I'd like some land for weekend fun, we will never live far enough out to make that a reality for full time. It seems like many of you use your garage for general storage. We have basements here, any accumulated junk goes in the unfinished area of the basement. |

We have a three car carport which house the wifes' ride, my truck and our zturn and the CanAm. Up the hill is my shop @ 2400 sq. ft. along with a 1400 sq. ft. "overhang" for trailers, boats etc. Our CanAm gets used as much as my truck so it needs to be by the house as we use it to run into town or to the Post Office/Bank. I can't imagine living in a subdivision ever again. We moved from 2.5 acres with a 2 car garage and before that we were in a subdivision with a 2 car garage. Looking back it made sense to be where we were from a financial perspective but now the rules have changed quite a bit.

I had a house built with a three car garage. Three separate doors, three feet apart. Plenty of room to open car/truck doors, have some work space, room for lawn equipment. Garage was about 1,000 sf. For me that was the best feature of the house. You will not regret making that investment for the other lot.
ETA: when I told the architect I wanted a 3 car with separate doors he designed with a single door and a two door. I said no, I want three separate doors, with three feet between doors. People across the street had a four car garage - two 2 doors. They had enough room for two SUV's. You need three separate doors. |

I wish I had a three car. The standard two car size can be pretty tight.

Really? We're debating a $28K upgrade on a house? I would think the extra space is a no-brainer for the tiny extra expense.

We went from houses with a 1 car to a 2 car to our current 3 car garage. The jump from the 1 car to 2 car was the nicest and most noticeable, although I'm not complaining about the 3 car. With a 1-2 car garage you get very efficient at storing stuff and decluttering whereas with a 3 car it's easy to just let crap pile up.

Almost every home in my neighborhood has a 3 car garage.
That's why I built a 4 car garage and added an EV charging station to one of them. Think RESALE VALUE. |

2car garage for the DDs
3bay shop for the rest I have as much or more shop/garage space than living space |
|
Quoted: Most newer 3 car garages are barely bigger than a true 2 car garage of yester year. View Quote BINGO. 3 bay garages today are big enough to to put 3 Honda civics in, and shimmy around the sides of them. Have them make them wider and deeper. Worth the $, unless you like handlebar scratches down the sides of your cars. |

Last house had a 3 bay detached shop.
Current house didn't even have a garage when purchased, built a detached two bay garage before moving in. The older I get the less it matters, I'm even looking at a retirement high rise on the beach at this point. |
|
Quoted: No kidding. That is the scary part. If we sign a contract now, they anticipate closing in October. A lot can happen in six months. ETA: We have never had a three car, I know we could definitely use one, but I'm looking for ways to save a little View Quote |

Most high rollers here have a minimum four car garage with zero cars parked inside.

Quoted: We are considering building a house. The model we like can only be had on one particular lot if you go with a three car garage. That lot is $15k more than another lot we could pick with a two car build of the same house. Additionally, the three car option adds $13k. That means for us to get a three car it would cost an additional $28k over what a two car build would cost. As much as I want a three car, it doesn't make since at that price to me. View Quote The house I'm looking at building is a carriage house style with quarters over 4 garages underneath. I'd pony up the extra 28k for the bigger place. a 3 car, or even a 2.5 with an extended stall, as well as a door to the backyard is CRITICAL in the next house.

I just built my home and moved in late June 2021.
I did the 4 car option and so happy I did. 14’ ceilings and 1400sqft Attached File |

I view a 3 car garage as a requirement. I'm a weird guy who likes to park two cars in there and still have a leftover stall.
If I had a 2 car garage, I'd eventually have to pony up the money to build a good outbuilding. Those are always more expensive in the long run, but can be a great option depending on your financial plans and space needs. |

I wish my garage had a standard door I could use to walk out to the driveway alongside the garage doors, because 98% of the time, I'm raising a garage door just to walk through it.

If I had my druthers, it'd be a 3 car garage plus a 40'x60' detached garage. That said, I currently have a 2 car garage, so I guess I can't say it's critical.

It's not important, per say, but I'd like to have one just cuz.

After moving from a house with a three car garage to one with a two car, having a three car is very important for me. I'll never not have one again after we sell this house.

If you need a 3-car garage just do it. You'd regret it if you don't and find you need one at a later time.
|

It’s a requirement as far as I’m concerned. 3+ or I’m out.
My favorite is the rare “double double” , 4-car garage. |
