A sad day for gun rights....

----------------------------------

TODAY IS THE DAYCALL EVERY MEMBER OF THE FLORIDA HOUSE
This may seem stupid to many, but we now have multiple confirmations that groups from *outside* Florida are calling our representatives to push gun control.
It does not matter if you get a person or voice mail, THEY ARE LISTENING.

Simply state the following:
OOPPOSE Senate Bill 7026.
Do NOT support gun control.
Do NOT raise the age limit on firearms purchases from 18 to 21.
Do NOT support a bump stock ban.

This is a long list, but every call we make ties up the lines so that gun control supporters can't get through. In order to ensure we get an even spread, if you last name starts with A-M, start at the top of the list, of your last name starts with N-Z, start at the bottom:

From the article:

"The calculus Senate Republicans must make to retain their majority is to decide whether to anger the most active members of their conservative base who oppose gun restrictions, or to counter the popular support for an assault weapons ban?"

Funny, I thought their focus should be in accordance with their oath of office.  (see below)

Title XLVI
CRIMES
Chapter 876
CRIMINAL ANARCHY, TREASON, AND OTHER CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC ORDER
View Entire Chapter
876.05 Public employees; oath.—
(1) All persons who now or hereafter are employed by or who now or hereafter are on the payroll of the state, or any of its departments and agencies, subdivisions, counties, cities, school boards and districts of the free public school system of the state or counties, or institutions of higher learning, except candidates for federal office, are required to take an oath before any person duly authorized to take acknowledgments of instruments for public record in the state in the following form:
I, (name) , a citizen of the State of Florida and of the United States of America, and being employed by or an officer of   and a recipient of public funds as such employee or officer, do hereby solemnly swear or affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Florida.

(2) Said oath shall be filed with the records of the governing official or employing governmental agency prior to the approval of any voucher for the payment of salary, expenses, or other compensation.

What is interesting about that article is again the setup of the NRA as the bad guy. The press is now running with this as if it's a fait accompli.

Bizarrely, it reminds me a little bit of gamergate, and how that movement is continually referred to as a misogynistic hate group. The press is very good at getting labels to stick.

Riiiiight.  Florida Republican politicians are textbook RINO whores.

Hell, The NRA A-rated Republican state Senator Anitere Flores got caught pandering to gun control moms last year in her bid to become mayor of Miami (IIRC), then got caught fucking a Democrat state Senator (both he and she are married to others).

Since the Republicans hold a decent margin in the Senate what are the chances an anti-gun Democrat gets to push his amendment through in a committee meeting?  They only way that should happen is if the Republican leadership allows it.

One thing that might be useful to remind/inform them of, if they pull the BS that 80% of gun owners want an AW ban,  is that the state fairgrounds gun show over the weekend had record numbers, meaning gun owners and new gun owners are coming out of the wood work to purchase firearms.  If people were demanding gun control like the anti-gunners claim the gun show should have seen a decline, not a record number surge.

That was the House that voted it down.  What is happening today is an amendment to a Senate bill.  Even if the amendment did succeed, the bill would have to go to the House for a vote.  Which would kill the entire bill, not just the poison pill amendment.

The bill in question can be found here.  There are multiple amendments listed as well.  It looks like the bill implements everything that Rick Scott was asking for.

Amendment 772096 makes the Dept of Ag transfer 10% of all fees from CCW permits be spent on repaying Trauma Centers for the medical costs of caring for patients of "Mass Shootings". The term "mass shooting" means an incident in which four or more people are killed or injured by firearms in one or more locations in close proximity.

Amendment 411458 is the Assault Weapons Ban.

Amendment 812202 makes possession of a Bump Stock a Felony.

Amendment 697008 makes a requirement to have a safe, trigger lock, etc... basically you cannot keep a gun unlocked or loaded in your home.

Amendment 197998 makes registration legal in Florida.

Amendment 504798 makes universal background checks and ends private sales.

@SWIRE - I know we bump heads and all but right now we're allies.

Anyways....

The FL GOP right now is in a tail spin. This is an election year and the GOP doesn't have a lot of love in the urban areas. My personal belief is that enough Turncoats can side with he Democrats.

Here is the makeup of the Rules Committee.

Chair: Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto (R) - PRO GUN
Vice Chair: Senator Oscar Braynon II (D) - ANTI-GUN
Senator Lauren Book (D) - ANTI-GUN
Senator Rob Bradley (R) - unknown
Senator Jeff Brandes (R) - unknown
Senator Anitere Flores (R) - ANTI-GUN
Senator Bill Galvano (R) - ANTI-GUN
Senator Tom Lee (R) - unknown
Senator Bill Montford (D) - ANTI-GUN
Senator Keith Perry (R) - unknown
Senator Jose Javier  Rodriguez (D) - ANTI-GUN
Senator Wilton Simpson (R) - unknown
Senator Perry E.  Thurston, Jr. (D) - ANTI-GUN

Right now, off the top of my head without diving into it. You have seven Anti Gun members of the committee out of a thirteen member panel.

I wrote to all my representatives and tried to explain that these laws are never going to help.  I am a former resident of NJ, where they have some of the nations strongest gun control laws, and they do nothing to curb crime or gun violence.  It only restricts those that are willing to follow laws.  This is an emotional reaction to a tragedy, exactly the wrong time to enact legislation.  I’m disgusted.

Rick Scott speaking now:

"Not going to have access to a gun if you are struggling with mental illness. You shouldn't have access to a gun and you are not. We are going to have a violent threat restraining order with a report system so they can make sure that you don't have access to a gun. There will be due process. So they can make sure you don't have access to a gun. You will not have access to a gun, there will be due process, you can get those guns back ,we'll make sure that doesn't happen.
