Never thought about it for dishes or laundry, but it's a fantastic surface prep, prior to painting.
As has been said already a hundred times! LOL |

Arfcom survival forum has a thread called Wash your Shorts.
Basic laundry soap is: 20 Mule Team Borax Washing Soda (Arm n Hammer. Not baking soda. Look in laundry aisle) Fels Naptha bar Optional: Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STP) I couldn't find the arfcom link but this is an example https://www.humoroushomemaking.com/homemade-powder-laundry-detergent This powders the mix. You can also boil water and put the ingredients in to make a liquid soap. Arfcom related link(s): https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/I_need_a_new_source_for_sodium_tripolyphosphate_/5-1882701/ https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/_ARCHIVED_THREAD____Whats_the_name_of_the_chemical_that_was_banned_from_dishwashing_soap/5-1146957/?page=1 ETA found it: wash my drawers https://www.ar15.com/forums/outdoors/wash_your_drawers/17-621990/? |

I have a big old bag of sodium tripolyphosphate. A pinch makes my laundry and dishes cleaner.
Sodium Tripolyphosphate
This is what you need. I buy 10 pounds about once every two years or so, and add it to the box of laundry detergent based on the number of loads the box does. 1/2TBS per load and a 1/2tsp per load for the dishwasher, and 1 TBS to my carwash bucket to prevent water spotting if I'm slow to get it dried off. Our water is pretty hard. |
Well, a quick look didn’t show any damage. I suppose I’ll know more when this load is done drying. I’ll put off doing more laundry until the poly stuff shows up.
I’d need two barrels. I am umm, tall

According to Wikipedia, both STPP and TSP were used in detergents.

I got my STPP(Sodium Tripolyphosphate) from The Chemistry Store.

Well, shit. I've been using TSP for years. For laundry and in the diswasher. Seems to work fine. WTF.. https://mobileimages.lowes.com/product/converted/049542/049542106214.jpg View Quote |

i dont really notice any difference in the washing machine but does wonders in the dishwasher.
TSP is good shit for basically everything, it's a powerful surfactant, which is the action that makes soap clean stuff, it gets between the material and the dirt/ grime/ whatever.
Unfortunately, the phosphate especially is what drives the environmentalists bonkers. A lot of states have banned it's use in laundry detergents. Same thing with dish washing detergent. Add TSP to stuff as mentioned if you've never used old school better living through chemistry era soaps, and it's like watching when "The wizard of oz" goes from black and white to color. |

Some of it says "food grade" wtf? You can consume this stuff too?
For the dishwasher just use Cascade fryer boil out powder. I add a tsp along with a normal dishwasher tablet. It is supposedly not great for septics so thats why I just use a little. It boosts the cleaning power.

will it f up a stainless washer drum and can you do colors with it?

Update, my socks and coat survived. I’m not sure if I got lucky or if the TSP isn’t much different than the TSPP. I guess I’ll know more Friday when my order of TSPP shows up.

OP, you’ll see this but without the dynamite.

TSP and TSPP are two things no longer found in your laundry soap, you can use them both safely.

Eatkamloops.org provides their recipe:
Wicked Laundry Soap 2 parts soap, ground into small pieces (e.g. Fels naptha) 1 part washing soda powder 1 part borax powder 1 part trisodium phosphate (TSP) So far, I haven't found many recipes using the sodium tripolyphosphate, yet. |

I bought a 5lb bag off a high-rated dude on Amazon a while ago. I haven't noticed any difference, but I am using terribly shitty over-worked pay washers.
I did a bit of research on this topic when we had to buy a new washer, and the clothes were not clean/fresh smelling with basic Tide.
As I remember, STPP will destroy the seals in your washer. True or false? |
What do these clothes look like when viewed in low light with NVG's after being washed with that?
