I really don't. Rich people doing rich people things.. paying to get their kids into college which has been going on forever.. but NOW it's a "moral" issue.. probably because some illegal or "minority" wasn't able to get in.

Why aren't the schools being held accountable for this? everything I read is singling out the parents because they're white and rich.. therefore evil and deserving of having the kitchen sink thrown at them.

If the people in question were minorities and wanted to get into a good school for free, I would write the instructions on a bar napkin and they'd have a shot.

I really don't care.  Rich people have been buying their way as long as there has been rich people. Why should I care about this particular instance?  Not to mention, colleges give admission to people who don't deserve it all the time.  David Hogg anybody?

I think it's ridiculous that the media is portraying this to be as big of a deal as they have been.  Likely to take attention away from the fact that their 2 year "muh Russia" hoax isn't working out so well for them lately.

The real scandal is reverse racism codified into law.

THAT is what's F'd Up.

If a super rich parent "donates" 50 mil to a school their kid gets in and its legal.

Its wrong to bribe admissions officers, but its not a he thing for me, probation and fines for the parents no more.

I am sickened with the schools more than the parents.  For what they charge in tuition and offer for that amount and to have people take money on top is disgusting.

Other than that IDGAF, water is wet, rich people live in a world where they do what they want in every aspect of life.

Schools receiving money for letting certain rich kids in, ZFG.

Individuals receiving the money I’m not a fan of. It doesn’t benefit the schools like it would if the schools received the payoffs. Either way, it shouldn’t be a legal matter.

It's bribery. On the other hand I'm not exactly sure why this isn't a purely internal matter for the schools involved.

Now if it discredits the idea of college in general, then the scandal itself is a good thing. College education is overvalued.

P.S. Huh, looks like this falls under plain old mail fraud

https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-fraud-lawsuit-explainer-20190323-story.html

The college admissions bribery case has left people fuming.

Stories of wealthy, well-connected parents allegedly paying large bribes to buy their kids seats in top-tier universities or high scores on college admission exams have stoked disgust and angry calls for the accused to be punished.

But prosecutors cannot bring a case on outrage alone.

In filing criminal charges last week against 50 people alleged to have played roles in the wide-ranging scam, the U.S. attorney in Boston embarked on an ambitious and, in some regards, uncertain legal odyssey, legal experts said.

Most of those named in the lawsuit, including all of the nearly three dozen mothers and fathers, have been charged with a count of conspiracy to commit mail or wire fraud. To prove it, the government must answer a basic question: Who, exactly, was defrauded  and of what property  when parents allegedly paid William "Rick" Singer to finagle their children into universities with doctored exams and fake athletic credentials?

There is a tax evasion component to it.

Liberals committing tax evasion should be crucified head down at the city gates.

I think however, Lori is rehabilitatable if I’m alloed to counsel her personally.

These people were never jailed.

On October 2, 2007 Heather Bresch, the daughter of then-governor (and subsequently United States Senator) Joe Manchin of West Virginia, was promoted to chief operating officer at Mylan, a Cecil Township, Pennsylvania-based generic drug maker.

The West Virginia University M.B.A. controversy concerns the granting of an Executive Master of Business Administration degree (EMBA) by West Virginia University to Mylan pharmaceutical company executive Heather Bresch in 2007. An independent panel later concluded that the university changed its records, and granted the degree despite incomplete graduation requirements. West Virginia University's president Michael Garrison, its provost Gerald Lang, and its business school dean R. Stephen Sears, resigned as a result of the investigation, and the university's general counsel and the president's communications officer relinquished those roles.

Not a single person I know cares. Generally feeling is, in one form or another, this has always occurred. Also, show me an actual crime? Mail Fraud?

Issues should be between the schools and staff/coaches/parents. This idea that Little J'von or Suzie didn't get in because of this is dumb.

My question is why Lori and Felicity have been the focus of media attention.  Why them and just a passing mention of the other parents.

As I read it, both are Democrats.  All defendants appear to be "rich" and white.

the integrity of the system is based on good faith and good will that everyone abides by the rules and it's applied on an even playing field. Especially for the ones sanctioned to ensure the integrity of it. That is the idea of the old system. The new system is one of elites and politicians applying their own desires for the direction of agendas, laws, rules, etc. and their own personal gain. through whatever means possible while virtue-signaling their purity to an ideal of equality, diversity, fairness, etc. But it's corrupted. By those holding the reins of power.  this is simply for show. To appease the masses and give the impression that things are still fair. I suspect everyone paying is really on the low end of the power/ leverage dynamic and possibly on the wrong side of the political spectrum.

Stupidity, ineptitude and lack of confidence in their ability to manage people reasonably/ effectively guarantee them creating a draconian, #shithole chaos managerial style workplace. Beat them into submission, ingroup/ outgroup manipulation and constantly fixing crises of their own creation because they have to dedicate the majority of the day to "always fixing employee things".

Yeah, I've got a problem with it.  When some parent hires someone to "proctor" the SAT because they said their kid has a "learning disability" and that proctor takes the test and gets whatever score the parent wants, thats a problem.  Same with saying your kid is a crew rower or whatever and pasting thier photo on someone elses bio.

Rich people paying money to get their kid into school isn't a problem for me though.   The above is.

Also like someone said, if this exposes the bullshit that are colleges then good.   Kicking out one of theses kids who has been at school for a year or so and is doing ok is bullshit.  Shows the university isn't all its cracked up to be

To answer the original question, yes, I have a problem with it.  As a father of a middle class kid who should have been accepted to a bunch of schools he didn't, I have to wonder how widespread this corruption has been.  We want to teach ethics and principles to our youth, but our when society doesn't practice what we preach, so many are indifferent to it.  I have a problem when merit is not rewarded.  When those who legitimately earned something are passed over, whether it be due to affirmative action, bribery, politics, etc, It pokes another hole in the American Dream.

You don't pay so much for the education. But the perks and benefits that come with membership.  You get to rub elbows with the elite. You go to the front of the line on high profile jobs with zero experience. You are virtually guaranteed a life of wealth if your not a complete nutjob. Even then, your going to do fairly well. Of course I am speaking of ivvy league places like Harvard and the like.  Ben Shapiro spoke about this not long ago. When he graduated from Harvard Law, he said the world of opportunity was at his doorstep with high paying job offers simply for being on a list of recent graduates. Bonus if you had lots of friends while in college. Because those friends will be heads of major orgs in the near future.
