Here's another for a great breakfast post. I've cooked this several times. It is really good. Leftovers are great to. If you shred the cheese yourself, the flavor is better,

Biscuits – check
Gravy – check,
Sausage – check,
Eggs, check, check!

Now the ingredients

8 serving package of buttermilk biscuit dough – we used Pillsbury Grands biscuits today, but regular biscuits work too.

6 eggs

peppered gravy mix – You’ll need at least 2 cups. I linked to my favorite gravy mix, but you can definitely make your own. Many people like to serve extra on the side.

1 lb pork sausage, any flavor

1 cup cheese, shredded – I used a pre-shredded Colby Monterey Jack mix, but shredded cheddar cheese works fine as well, and of course, shredding it yourself from a block makes it so much meltier.

1/2 cup milk – any fat percentage is fine.

Now let's make it

Grease a 13×9 baking dish and preheat the oven to 350.

Brown the sausage in a large skillet and drain thoroughly.

Cut biscuit dough into 1? pieces, and line the bottom of the pan.

Layer cooked sausage over the layer of biscuits, then layer shredded cheese over the sausage.

Whisk eggs and milk, add salt and pepper, and pour over biscuit/layers.

Make gravy according to instructions, and pour over everything.

Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until eggs and biscuits are cooked through.
Serve warm (leftovers are excellent too!) I bake it around 40 to 45 mins to brown the biscuits more. Use a glass casserole dish so I can judge doneness of biscuits.

Let it rest for 15 mins after cooking. It will be extremely hot. I always add extra gravy, not to much though because it will bubble over the rim of casserole dish. To save time, you can put the casserole together the night before. (So the only thing left to do the next morning is bake.) I've never assembled it the night before and cooked it the next. But recipe says you can. I think it would mess with biscuits doing that.

Everyone that's eaten this has loved it though. It's good with hot/spicy sausage to. It's actually addictive

It is SOOO good!  My wife makes it for Christmas morning, preps it the night before so all we have to do is preheat the oven.

Make your own. It's about the simplest baking recipe there is.

I made the quick & simple breakfast.

Made enough dough for 4 Homemade 3" biscuits, threw in oven for 15min at 375deg.

Then put a leftover grilled hamburger patty from last nights meal chopped up into castiron skillet with tablespoon of corn oil, heated up,

Then added tablespoon of flour to make the ruox, salt & pepper, 3/4 cup milk, stirred around, then turned heat down to simmer.

Had the stovetop's center griddle on, scramble two eggs & poured on to make a simple sharp cheddar cheese omelette topped with sliced roma tomato.

Gravy had thickened enough I added 1/4 cup water to thin a bit,

Then halved two biscuits, put three halves on plate topped with the burger sos gravy next to omelette & strawberry jam on fourth biscuit half.

Pretty good breakfast, lunch & dinner meal for today at one sitting.

My woman, only wanted 1 biscuit with butter.

It was pretty good and the recipe fit well in a 12" skillet and didn't boil over. I do most of my cooking with cast iron so that's my go to. I saw the post the other day and looked in the kitchen and had all the ingredients so decided I needed to try it.

Thanks for sharing the recipe

With hash browns or tater tots instead of biscuits, yeah.  Biscuits belong in a dumpster.

I wouldn’t go so far as that biscuits belong in a dumpster.  Nevertheless I think using hash browns is absolutely brilliant idea.

I showed the recipe to my wife and we were both excited to try it.  We couldn’t resist putting our own spin on it but it worked out.  We chopped up a large bell pepper, medium onion and sautéed.  Added sausage to sauté and browned.  Then added a can of chili’s when done.  Rest of recipe was adhered to.  It came out awesome!  Served with extra gravy on top.  Attachment Attached File
Thank you OP.

This will be a great edition for an easy breakfast for a group.  Using hash browns would probably qualify it for a pot luck lunch or dinner.Attachment Attached File

EDIT:  I forgot about a deviation from the original recipe.  Took a can of Winco biscuits and just smushed them down in the greased dish until I had a uniform layer of dough at the bottom. I made real gravy because white gravy from a package just sucks.

The local convenience store serves up their lumberjack bowl:

- 2 biscuits
- 2 fried eggs
- 3 strips bacon
- 2 sausage patties
- 1 hash brown patty
Smothered in sausage gravy
Covered in cheddar cheese

It’s worth the caloric intake.

I just made sausage gravy yesterday.  I need to find a good homemade biscuit recipe.  I used frozen ones and they turned out kind of gummy.

Drain the sausage grease?!?  That's what you mix with flour before adding milk to make the gravy...
Link Posted: 5/6/2024 2:28:39 PM EDT

I'd make drop biscuits first, start the hot sausage, make the gravy in the sausage, scramble some eggs.

When the biscuits are done, cover in the sausage gravy, top off with the eggs, cover in cheese, then throw it back in the oven for a bit.
