No.  When it rains you will get wet.  Embrace it.  Let the idea of dryness go.  You will be happier.

Maybe if you start another thread on this same topic you will get better answers.

If you can find one in decent shape, the old (like O.D.Green, pre-ripstop) Army ponchos worked great. They seem to hold up well too. The closest thing I've seen is the German Army version of the same poncho. The rip-stop ones are garbage, as are most commercial ones.
Of course the old heavy duty ones will keep the rain off, but you may die of dehydration from sweating under them, and you still wind up wet anyway, so there's that.

A long rain coat in a modern light fabric is better in every way. Go at least one size up. Ponchos are virtually useless unless you're sitting in a foxhole. Which is what they are intended for. They work really well and needn't be all heavy rubber/vinylized like the old days. The new ones are light and flexible and bearable even in the summer.

Go to the police store.

Walmart camping section has good cheap ponchos. They don't suck as much as the axes!

I think the soft shell/hard shell thing killed the poncho.

There's some options, but they all seem like ass.

The German version was great. The old US OD one was good, but they are both heavy for what they are.

You could look at a Frog Tog ultra lightweight rain suit, they are inexpensive and work well for what you are
talking about. I keep a couple in the trunk and in the wife's vehicle

I bought one last year from the Old Grouch who is one of our guys.

I bought the slightly oversize model and it's great.

A poncho, of any type, is incapable of doing anything a modern light long raincoat can do without a greater obstacle to mobility.
Here's a nice one. I had to get the damn Hi-Viz version, but I'll get the black one soon.

Cheapies,for emergency SHTF use

A little better

I understand the Penguin is talking about quick and easy raingear, but I should have posted this stuff in the best money I've ever spent thread.

Rain gear.

I have this Carhartt rain jacket and the matching pants in my Peterbilt for work as a carhauler.  We work outside.  It was expensive but it is worth every penny.  I was loading cars during Harvey with some other guys because Ad Valorem time was right when Harvey hit and almost no one else could make it to work.  I loaded dozens of trucks during the biggest rain in history.

...and don't even get me started about my "Gear Closet" full of thousands of dollars worth of Gore-Tex suits, jackets, pants, gloves, and boots for the motorcycles.  Buy once, cry once.

Ponchos? Who the.... your sad devotion to that ancient relic of outwear won't help you conjure up the level of dryness you've been searching for or given you clairvoyance enough to find the fish that you so desire.

This looks nice.  Much more affordable on Amazon.

Integrated pouch, soft-shell material, and has grommets for cinching or using as a shelter.

I’ve never found a good way to stay dry in rain unless I was in a Gore-tex outfit. Ponchos were always a waste for me when hunting. When I worked in the shipyard a regular rubber suit kept me dry but you paid for it in sweat.

Sierra Designs has a decent rain poncho, packs up very tight. It might be what you are looking for?
