Latest pickup, a new bigger store opened up in a nearby town and I decided to take a look. Their bourbon collection was very bleh, which isn't surprising anymore, and the tequila selection was the usual suspects, however they did have the beginnings of a somewhat decent mezcal selection. Picked up this one, looks like an interesting blend of Espadin and Cuishe. Attached File |

A fun one tonight. Sotol (related to yucca not an agave) distilled a third time with rattlesnake and local fruits and peppers. Then barrel aged for a short time. Really incredible bottle!

Thanks WOAFP and everyone in this thread! I stumbled on this discussion somehow and was intrigued. I tried a bottle of El Padrino Blanco neat and in mixed drinks. This was so much better than the junk in plastic bottles I was familiar with, but it was not wowing me like I had hoped. I decided to try again but double my $ per bottle budget, and I am glad I did.  The G4 and El Tesoro are great, and the Bozal is phenomenal! I have seen the Marca Negra, Del Maguey Chichicapa, and a silver labeled Vago mezcal. Is any one of these a step up from the Ensamble? I really enjoyed it. |

Stupid good release. Apparently they had it produce by two different NOMs. This one is 1123 which is cacahui. Which is why I grabbed it. I'm not sure I would get the 1500 though.

I get some funny remarks here on arfcom when I recommend stuff like tesoro over stupid high priced garbage like clase Azul. It's nice to see that even completely blind this stuff dominates other tequilas. I had a few bottles of tequila I thought I really liked (Herradura, El Mayor, Maracame...) until the day came that I finally cracked open that El Tesoro Reposado. It. Changed. Everything. I immediately dumped out FULL bottles of tequila I had just bought because it was fucking gnasty by comparison and I was NOT going to drink any of them. Just smelling it.....it smelled like a wet rock where the others now smelled like robitussin. Then I come to this thread and find out that there are tons more tequilas out there made the right way, and I should be trying them out. I used to be scared trying new tequilas because I was always disappointed. Now my shelf looks like this!   I'm going to need another shelf as I'm running out of room on this one. And here is the same bottle that red pilled me on agave! It will always have a special place in my heart and on my shelf.  So thank you, Carlos Camarena, and thank you WOAFP!

Sun Devil Liquor in Mesa had the best selection of Mezcal I saw when I was in the area. Way better than Total Wine. |
