Ok, so a review/comparison of my new Jarrito nosing glass vs the standard glencairn. We're sipping on some Siete Leguas Reposado, the bottle being about half empty so it has had a lot if air time. I like it a lot more now than when I opened it.    As you can see there is quite a difference in size.The jarrito is squattier, but has a larger circumference of bulb and also mouth. You can have more in the jarrito without having to worry. Tried to get legs and tears in there but I failed.   You can get a better appreciation of color out of the jarrito as the larger circumference allows for less bending of light. With the glencairn I get mostly very sweet, fruity, and agave forward notes on the nose. This has actually opened up to have kind of a buttered popcorn jelly belly note to it. Minerality, lime zest, fresh agave, fruit punch.... With the jarrito you get all that and more. Now I'm getting more vegetal, grassy notes. Along eith the butter popcorn is a bit of brine. The alcohol is not as pronounced. You don't have to dig for nuances with the jarrito. If you gently tilt the glass to different angles you will find that it is all laid out on the table for you. Just move it around your nose and can pick everything up, whereas the glencairn you have to dig to get other nuances. You also get more alcohol with the glencairn. Taste: with the glencairn I get immediate agave up front with a bunch of citrus and fruitiness. Minerality on the finish. With the jarrito the grassy vegetal flavors come through a lot more. There is also a nice pepper spice that I didn't get with the glencairn. Obviously the jarrito did a far better job of showcasing the tequila. You get less alcohol and it allows you to navigate the tequila on the x-plane instead of the y-plane, if that makes sense. In the hand the jarrito is nice because it can be held many ways comfortably. It has a thick, heavy bottom which makes it very hard to tip over. If you put it on its side it will sit itself back up. I think it was $30 well spent. Oh yeah, I was also making dinner!

Great write up on all fronts @CastleBravo91 .I'm glad you're digging the agave glasses. Glencairn do a good job at funneling the nose on whiskies, but that is the opposite of what you usually want on agave. It really helped me better taste and understand agave spirits once I moved away from my attachment to Glencairns. Also, what in the world are those things leading away from your grill? |

As for those things on the ground by the grill those are porcelain powerline insulators. I collect them along with glass insulators as well.     Switch apparatus   And some pretty antique glass insulators that the mongrels of GD call butt plugs.

Now I want to branch out to Mezcals but dont really know where to start. I'm on vacation right now and staying near this store. www.noblewhiskeyhouse.com I would appreciate some recommendations for any mezcals or standout tequilas that they show on the website. They have a bottle of Tequila Ocho blanco for $60 that Im comsidering and also Pasote blanco for $60 which is not available in AZ where I live. Suggestions appreciated for mezcal or Tequilas that I might now be able to find in AZ. The website seems to be fairly accurate to what they have in the store. |

Tonight Mezcal enjoyment during the heat wave seems appropriate. Not nearly as smokey as the Chichicapa, but certainly has a more subtle smokey nose with a slight sweetness on the front end. Definitely catch the agave flavor as it goes down. Very enjoyable so far. Attached File |

They even have Del Bac, which isn't tequila, but is made in Tucson and is out of this world. |

Its gotten a lot harder to find latelely Minero $70 La Luna Ensamble would be a cool way to check out some of the citrusy ash forward mezcals from michoacan Luna Ensamble $70 The borregos aren't for everyone but if you were curious of what mezcal distilled with a lamb leg in it taste like here you are. I really like this one actually. very savory Borrego/pechuga $57 Hard to beat Campero espadin. Very much a good flag bearer for the mezcal name. Campero Espadin $54 Any of the Nuestras. there are a handful from different villages in oaxaca, but are all great. nuestra soledad $50 And i'm happy to take a peak at anything else that might catch your eye. A great resource to use is https://www.mezcalreviews.com/ . Two guys run this that absolutely love mezcal, and keep it up to date. You will generally see most everything listed and the reviews can be somewhat reliable. |

Anyway, cool on Forbes for explaining additives. It would be cool if the industry got shamed out of using them. Or at least abusing them. |

I ws able to stop at Old Town Tequila on my way out of town and picked up a few bottles to try. Fortaleza Blanco (I have had this one before and really liked it, and at $40 compared to $56+ in AZ it was an easy pick) Fortaleza Blanco Still Strength Pasote Blanco Sin Rival Blanco (The owner of the store saw the other blancos I picked out and said I had to try this one. Hopefully it is good) Del Maguey Minero Mezcal Vago Elote (the desriptions of this one sound good plus it seems like a good idea to pick up bottles from Aquilinno with his recent passing) I wanted to buy a bottle of something to give to a good friend who really enjoys 1942 but I didn't want to just get him 1942. The owner of the store recommended a bottle of Tierra Noble Exquisito Extra Anejo as a good option so I bought that. For a similar flavor as 1942 but a lower price point, the owner recommended San Matias Gran Reserva Extra Anejo at $40 so I got one for myself. I have not tried any of the bottles that I purchased yet, but look forward to trying them all. I will probably start with the Mezcals since they are new for me outside of a couple of Mezcal cocktails |

Man, its been a whole year since i started this one. We need to get arfcom to give agave more love, or try and keep it a secret and let them keep thinking patron and casamigos are worth drinking |

| I tried some of the Mezcal Vago Elote last night. There's a lot of flavor going on there and it was definitely a different taste. I could definitely smell and taste the corn, but it wasn't over the top. There was an aroma that I recognized but couldn't place what it was, it might have been the roasted corn. I'll probably have another taste of the Elote tonight as well as the Minero. |

Sola De Vega has a lot of interesting flavors that seem to come from the natural yeast in the area. Elote is a lot of fun if you're used to mezcal to see the difference the corn makes but can be tough if you're new to the spirit |

Olmeca is good for cocktails and other things, but definitely isn't a top notch sipper. It is my most recommended tequila for cocktails though. Hornitos I 100% recommend against. They use a diffuser with sulfuric acid that breaks down the plant then pressure steams the acid out before distilling. Just not a good product. |

Since its National Tequila Day, salut. The Sotol is the only bottle of sotol I have ever seen in my local area, granted before this thread I haven't been looking for them, but this one was in the bargain bin at a local liquor store. Looking forward to giving it a go. Attached File |
Didn’t realize today was National Tequila Day.....but I already made my homemade Blackberry juice for our Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade tonite. So, I’ll be a day or two behind you guys.... Here’s a pic of some of my haul from Arizona a couple months ago (just renewed my membership to post pics). The Carreno is an Arizona product only - so I bought one of each of the (3) recipes. The fellow was kind enough to throw in a bottle of Worm Salt and the dried-shell thing to drink from. Talk about authentic..... Even the bottle has some sort of reference to the Kings of Old according to their website. Also grabbed a couple bottles of the 23 on OP’s recommendation. Attached File Attached File |

I had a mini tasting of some of my recently acquired bottles tonight since it is national tequila day. Some notes below: Pasote Blanco: I immediately regret not buying more than one bottle of this since it does not seem to be available to purchase in AZ. This is a really clean taste and I think I will go through this one quickly Sin Rival Blanco: I need to try this one again to see what I think. It's definitely not bad, but I can't tell if this one is a standout for me or not. A little bit sweet and I just need to drink it again to get a better sense of this one Del Maguey Minero Mezcal: Wow this is good. It reminds me of Islay scotch and goes down easily. I could see this as something that I always want to have on hand. Mezcal Vago Elote: I might be a bit "over my skis" on this as I venture into the Mezcal world. I like it but I think that I will appreciate it more once I have a better palate for Mezcal. WFOAP (I hope I got that right). Thanks for all of the great info posted here. If you ever need something in AZ please let me know and I will try to help out. |

Those are just ones I rebottled. I don't like their opaque bottles and I like to preserve parts of the bottle without any air exposure to see how they change so I just swapped them to half size bottles. |
