This should be a fun experiment. I picked up the 2016 Los Patos bottling and the 2017 Los Nopales bottling to compare with my 2017 Las Aguilas bottling. All blancos. Lets see how terroir affects the end product.   Question for WOAFP: Does Ocho age all of their estate bottlings or just some? I've noticed that the bottle # on the blancos get up in the multiples of 10k's but the aged expression bottle #'s seem to be significantly less by a factor of 10^-1. Or at least the batches around me are. For example a blanco would be bottle # 35,xxx, the repo bottle # 6,xxx, and the anejo bottle # 2,xxx. Seemed to be consistent anywhere I went. I'll see a bunch of one bottling all over the place but wont see the aged expressions of that same bottling. Some stores have the 3 main expressions but all from different estates. Is it just a distribution thing? |

Tequila doesn't move quick around here, especially ones nobody knows is good. I'll have to make a trip this week. I'll wait till wednesday, new billing cycle for my visa.

It’s been more than 2-months since a friend came over and finished off my only bottle of Dona ji’ joven - at a rate of 3-1 to me.... “No big deal” I thought. I’ll just grab another bottle - or two- from the local store where I got the first one. It took me until now to find it in-stock and had to have it shipped 1200-miles to get some. Word I’m getting from everyone is because of COVID, very little is coming across the border and distributors are emptying out their warehouses to keep stores stocked. I think I got the last (5) bottles in the States.- that I could find anyway. Not going to be too keen on sharing right away... Attached File |

Also, I believe I owe everbody here some A LOT of Tequila Ocho reviews and comparisons. My collection of those is getting out of hand, and I haven't even opened half of them. I'll start doing those Friday, maybe sooner. But I did get the LAST bottle of the 2011 Puertecito Reposado and they finally dropped the 2017 Las Aguilas Anejo in my area. Now I have a complete offering (well, minus the EA) set!

Comparison between the Tequila Ocho 2017 releases, Las Aguilas and Los Nopales estates. Nose: Las Aguilas: reminds me of an april rain, has a very "fresh" smell to it. Fruity, but light with hints of unripe banana. Very light cooked agave undertones. Los Nopales: A lot more cooked agave with a bit of brininess, but not too much like Siete Leguas. Light florality and fruitiness. Overall they smell very similar with Aguilas focusing on the floral/fruitiness and the Nopales focusing on the agave. Palate: Las Aguilas: Very sweet and grassy, with the "fruit punch" thing going on. Very soft on the palate. Los Nopales: Also sweet, slightly buttery. Not as fruity. Lots more cooked agave, a lot of white pepper mid and on the back end. Also soft on the palate. Conclusion: Nopales has a better mouthfeel. I do like the upfront flavors of the Aguilas, but the Nopales kills it on the finish. Although I like both, and prefer the "fruit punch" profile on the Aguilas, I'm going to have to give the Blue Ribbon of this vintage to the Nopales. Of course, they are both worth your time. |

Friday will be: 2 different El Tesoro single barrel offerings. Both bottled on the 30th of October of last year. That makes them birthday bottlings for me  . I'll be 29.

Happy birthday to me!!! 29 whole years. I also got a bunch of goodies in the mail! The Rhodi camo "boog shirt" and I decided to switch to old man shaving. This particular bottle, along with other I've posted pics of, was bottled 10/30/2019. Therefore they are special birthday tequilas! Oh man, the smell when I opened the bottle......this will be a treat!  I SHALL NOT run out of this stuff!!!

| Oh yeah, that Puertecito is FREAKING AWESOME!!! Now I wish I had just bought out the 4 that were left. Oh well, I have this one and a back up. But I'm going to put this one away for special occassions. La Laja (2019) was good as well. I enjoyed it as much as the Las Aguilas but El Puertecito outshines both of those. |
