Gotta have a swag lamp!  A ton of styles of light fixture, but it has to have a chain with interwoven power cord that goes to a wall outlet.

And some end table lamps with heavy, straight-cylinder shades.

If you don't have orange or brown shag carpet as a foundation it will look fake.

Key fact about the 1960s and (especially) 70s:

"Avocado" green was a hugely popular color for major kitchen appliances (refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers).

Call me if you ever need a period set director for your 1970s movie productions.

In fact, once you have an avocado green/harvest gold shag rug down and a sunburst style clock on the wall, you're half way home.

For serious bonus points, find a wall mounted slimline phone with a spiral cord at least 10' long.

Not going green.  Yellow, brown

that table is USCG issue. I used to have a few. You need avocado accents and orang shag to bring the room together.

Avocado green and harvest gold were the only two colors there were in the 70s.

My dad still has and uses Corelle dishes with the little green flowers around the edges.  My aunt still has the exact same dishes with gold flowers.

And we had a green fridge, wall oven, and stovetop.

The fridge has long since been replaced, but the stovetop and wall oven are still rocking the green!

(Those Corelle dishes are awesome, BTW. Light, thin, and very shatter-resistant.

Orange or green beanbag chairs.

If you do a bedroom, you have to have a waterbed.

Depends on what part of the 70s you're wanting to recreate. Around 78' some furniture styles started to become more "futuristic."

Early 70s any earth tone was in. Avacado green, browns, and golds / yellows, and some orange.

This was huge. It was one of our biggest sellers back in the early to mid 70s, the number 1 seller.

My family owned a furniture store chain. If you need any help I'd be happy to assist you.

Bonus feature about that last picture: in a seedy, low rent furnished apartment, that color scheme would make it so you would hardly even notice the cockroaches!

I had so many aunts and uncles and elderly neighbors and family friends with houses that looked like that well into the 80s and sometimes into the early 90s.

Once you get to a certain age, you don't give a crap that your stuff is dated.

Don't forget to add some ranch oak furniture too, for the "eclectic shit" look!

(True Fact: The Air Force used to own a metric fuck ton of this shit, and maybe still does).

The carpet in my first apartment (1976) looked more like this, except wall to wall, not area rug. And it was about this color green. I remember green, brown and blue. I don't remember seeing a yellow shag carpet.

Also, jump on eBay and pick up a Sillisculpt or two, and salt 'em around the room.

Then your guests will REALLY feel the "time machine" effect.

Thanks, just had a dorm couch PTSD flashback. That shit was harder than a coffin nail, and ergonomically designed to make it physically impossible to slouch into a relaxed position.
