Also, jump on eBay and pick up a Sillisculpt or two, and salt 'em around the room.

Then your guests will REALLY feel the "time machine" effect.

Granted, those look like cheap copies, but Eero Saarinen's "Tulip" chair design were from the mid-50's.  Knoll still makes and sells them - at almost $2k each.

So much of what people associate with 1970's design is actually mid-century modern that was designed several decades earlier.

Now we’re talkin’! I paid way too much for this 1975 Yamaha dealer chair in rough shape and spent a bunch of time and money  restoring it. Stripped and painted it myself and had a local upholsterer do a little more modern look with flat black leather and memory foam. Damn comfortable! Had been trying to buy a pair of these for 30 years to no avail when this one popped up. Some things you just have to have...

Okay, there's nothing inherently "wrong" with ranch oak furniture.  It was sturdy as hell.

It just cracks me up because it was such a cliché in the USAF.

Depends on what part of the 70s you're wanting to recreate. Around 78' some furniture styles started to become more "futuristic."

Early 70s any earth tone was in. Avacado green, browns, and golds / yellows, and some orange.

This was huge. It was one of our biggest sellers back in the early to mid 70s, the number 1 seller.

I bought the entire set (couch, end tables, coffee table, rocker, love seat and padded bench) to furnish the living room of my apartment.  "Contemporary Country Bachelor" was my name for it.

Mrs Flying Gorilla never allowed it into our house after we got married.  It stayed in storage until we could give it to my nephew when he got married and was setting up house.

OP, both of those items are from the 40's thru 60's not the 70's.  They were persistent enough to survive thru the 70's but the items/style is much older.

That what I was thinking.  I remember those lamps in my grandmothers house in the late 60s.  Probably installed in the early 50s when electricity was brought in.

Avocado green and harvest gold were the only two colors there were in the 70s.

My dad still has and uses Corelle dishes with the little green flowers around the edges.  My aunt still has the exact same dishes with gold flowers.

And we had a green fridge, wall oven, and stovetop.

The fridge has long since been replaced, but the stovetop and wall oven are still rocking the green!

(Those Corelle dishes are awesome, BTW. Light, thin, and very shatter-resistant.

They were uncomfortable as hell.

They looked better than what, somehow, some way, sold well in the late 80s. Mostly it was black folks that bought these, but there were a couple of white families that did too. I used to love to crash out and nap on these. They were really comfortable.

Well, I was trying to post a pic of the red and black velvet couches we sold. It was really long velvet, not like all the pics I'm finding with the short velvet. This stuff, you could rub the velvet and change the direction it laid.
