^^ Good stuff right there. Have other people you know that have been in said similar things occurred to them? My cousin has been in the building and he has had different things happen to him. He would mainly visit the firehouse, electric station, and boiler station. From what he has told me a few years back is he would hear the occasional foot steps on the catwalks above him when no one was there, hear disembodied voices talking, and see a strange white mist on photos he has taken. The weird thing about the photos with the mist is he would take 4-5 photos. It's sad that these sick folks are now all in prison instead. If only--too many of them are living amongst us, wreaking havoc on society.  Yah, think about this: they built these places for a reason, to serve a segment of society. That segment and that need has not gone away, so where are all those people? Out on the street, mostly, some in (and out) of prisons. In some cases, they get incarcerated in new institutions by private (for profit) contractors. With no assurance either the persons or their society is getting what's best for them.  It's a crying shame not everyone is born perfect, and these folks can't help their afflictions--but that's no reason to have them inflicted on society in general. Turning them loose is just another nail in the coffin of killing America, Democrat style. They just arrested a guy here who stabbed 2 little kids in bkln. Killed a 6 y/o boy and severely injured a 7 y/o girl. He's also suspected of stabbing an 18 y/o woman to death, and injuring a man on a subway platform in Manhattan. He was paroled 2 weeks ago. Should have been in a loony bin .

The one thing that really stuck with me that I can remember clear as day was the faint maniacal laugh exactly when I hit a dead end. |

Thats what I always wonder about with paranormal encounters, alien encounters, etc.. -- is it explainable as just being the brain distorting perception? For example, was there actually an audible noise that you heard, or did your brain just create the sensation? I've talked with people that believed in encounters so strongly, they were willing to take a polygraph. So assuming they did and passed (and took it honestly -- not talking about someone who intentionally fabricates a lie then tricks the polygraph for the lulz), that solidifies the evidence that they experienced something, it just doesn't answer what that something was -- whether it was real, or simply the brain creating a vivid sensation that feels like a real event. I don't know enough about brain physiology to answer that, but I do know the brain can create and misremember high stress situations even though the person is convinced it happened a certain way (AAR from combat troops not matching GoPro footage, statements after car accidents not lining up with dash/security cam footage, etc..) |

There's one about 1/2 hour from here. It was built in 1858, and was designed to house 250 people, but during the 1950's, the population was as high as 2400. Some of the goings-on there were unimaginably horrifying. My FIL worked there for a short time when he was younger. He went to his grave refusing to talk about it.

This thread and some of the pictures reminded me of Willard Hospital (NY), a stone's throw up the road from where I grew up. No longer a psych facility, it's a state drug treatment center now.
When they closed the psych facility, they found hundreds of suitcases that people had brought with them when they checked in - which were never emptied or inventoried, just stuffed in an attic with all contents and forgotten. A photographer has started documenting the contents of the cases, with names when possible. Neat work: The Willard Suitcases |

there is a shitload in Massachusetts... ranged from relatively recent that are like sets from video games with operating theaters etc, mostly intact to ones long abandoned... it used to be pretty easy to get into a lot of them as a kid...
exploring the caverns underneath Dr. Wiswall's sanitarium was probably a 9.9 out of 10 on the creep-o-meter...

No way. No how! I rode slowly around the grounds of Pilgrim State on my motorcycle 20 years ago right at dusk and that was creepy shit. You could sense people looking at you through the broken windows. A couple times I stopped because I caught stuff moving around inside the buildings out of the corner of my eye. I had no desire to enter any of the buildings as the property was creepy enough for me. Scary part is by that time the place was abandoned long enough I bet there were lots of people living in those old buildings. Homeless, drug addicts, etc. just the kind of person you want to run into In an old, dark insane asylum.
