How about using it as a model for a new hair-do that looks something just like it?  You can start by brai........

Oh, I forgot.  Whoopi Goldberg already has it.

I killed one yesterday.
Squished it.
How about putting a Preying Mantis in with it and see which one survives?
Or maybe you could find one of those parasitic Wasp's that stuns spiders and lays an egg on the carcass that slowly eats it alive.
Might be cool to watch the larva grow and pupate.

BTW, a spider bite isn't fun at all!!!  I have a hole about the size of a quarter on the back of my leg from where I got bit by one!!!

A long time ago, I read in an article that we swallow about 10-20 spiders in a year while we are asleep. I forget where I read it, but I sure remembered what it said. Gave me the creeps.
I think you should keep it as a pet. I caught one a few months ago and still have it in a glass jar. I feed it bees and flies.

I take it you've never been to San Diego.  The nearest wooded area to me is Balboa Park, where a grove of majestic redwoods has SPRINKLER PIPES running through it.

I couldn't let a dangerous spider loose there.  Too many noncombatants.  And Leadfoot down the street has kids and a dog, so his yard is out too.

If I don't come up with a sudden urge to kill something in the next 20 minutes I'm going to turn this vile critter loose in a big canyon near where I work.  The place is overgrown with thick brush (way overdue for a fire actually), and already crawling with ticks, scorpions, and rattlesnakes.

Thanks for all your suggestions.  I'm also going to FIRE UP THE FURNACE because as JRB L1A1 observed, there are probably more BWs.

I'd say mail it to:

Sarah Brady
Handgun Control Inc.
New York, NY

Then again you could probably get away with sending it to Afghanistan. I wonder if they have an antivenon for it.

BTW, my Grandmother got bit by a Brown Recluse a few years ago in NC and her leg swelled up big time. If you don't mail it to HCi or Afghanistan kill it. There is no use for BWs in this world. FOR GODS DO NOT RELEASE IT.

I don't think they're killer spiders.  It's my understanding that their web silk is used to make the cross hairs in expensive scopes used on your hunting rifles. Take it out and turn it loose in the woods.  [;)]

Send it to some anti-gun activist, or better yet a PETA person.  Only they could show it the love that the poor misunderstood critter deserves.

Here we have the cousin to the Black widow. Its called the Red Back, cuz it has a red strip on its back, and the hour glass the same place as the BW. The same size and description as the BW.

They are quite common here, and a while back had one in the garage, who was fat on cockroaches. I let her do here thing, but I made the mistake of telling my Mrs, and she got the Mortein out, and sprayed her.

These spiders allthough dangerous are not aggressive like the Funnel Web, but are rather shy and reserved, and only bite if handled or teased. They do not wander, but happily stay in their messy web and catch insects.

They have killed people here, but usually only the aged and kids are truly at risk. We have much more deadly spiders than the Red Back to worry about.

If I had any kids, I would have killed her.

You guys scare me...  You name your pet spider???  I guess I'm really a city folk. [:D]

Sometime back I caught a black widow spider in my back yard; kept it in a plastic jar and let it spin its web.  The web is very strong; I had trouble breaking it.  Thought about "breeding" it, but finding a male probably requires a degree in entomology(or arachnology ).  I fed it a strict diet of LIVE FLIES (yes, i wasn't a popular kid in school).  It's very scary seeing the critter move its legs and catch their prey.  Months later its stomach began to shrink and dropped dead...

I was told venom from black widow is extremely posionous, but becaues they rarely bite human and they don't carry enough dosage of venom to kill.

I hear the Sydney Funnel Web hangs around everywhere, including indoors and is very aggressive. It's fangs are very large and it pounces down to deliver a blow that can penetrate a leather boot.  Fact or Fiction?

Ms. Black Widow is a goner.

[frag]

I cannot post what I did to it, because I violated at least three sections of the OCR Fish and Game Code and possibly one or two of the Penal Code.  Having normal human activity turn you into a criminal is part of our "sunshine tax" for living here.

[50]

Suffice it to say that I was unable to find a scientific use or justify releasing a dangerous spider any place where a human might possibly encounter it.

I appreciate all the suggestions.

In other news from my house, I finally killed the big damn RAT that was living in my kitchen for a month.  It had out-smarted (or out-maneuvered) both of my cats.

Now I can get on with my weekend.

From "The Book of Spiders and Scorpions":

In equal quantities, the venom from Black Widows is fifteen times as deadly as rattlesnake venom.....

Scott

P.S. One of the spider threads (pardon the pun) mentioned that someone was TRIPPED by a single strand of Black Widow silk, without breaking the web...

After consulting insect specialist, the consensus is the Funnel web spider in Australia ranks right up on top, if not the #1.

Cali?... Needs to pass a drop and metallurgical test. Suggest you place the critter in a glass jar and drop it from the ass end of a C-130 at 1,200'. Next, place specimen in microwave. Set on high for 10 minutes. Record results and submit data for to Cali AG's office for compliance certification.
