One of the cops standing around after, tried to claim that Tyre tried to go for his gun (actually says something like, "He literally had his hand on my gun"). No idea what happened before the pole camera panned over, but I definitely didn't see him fighting, swinging, or reaching for anyone's sidearm. Was he resisting? Yeah, in the initial stop, he refused to lie on his stomach and put his right arm behind him, and when they kept asking, and trying, he used the opportunity to squirm out and bolt. Used the same technique in the 2nd video, laying on his right side without putting his right arm behind his back. At some point, they were spraying him in the face, then kicking and striking, and he was just trying to protect his head by that point, but again, don't know why the culture seems to be all about noncompliance, while repeating, "What did I do? I didn't do nuthin!". The roadside isn't the place to argue with LE, while refusing to comply. No idea what kind of "Respect My Authority!" types you might piss off (like the white officer who cuffs the skinny white kid, then drags him to the pavement and deliberately drops him on his face from a few feet up, while the kid's hands are cuffed behind his back). He also fought through a can f OC, a taser, and kicked the officer you see limping around…along with fighting his way from the ground to his feet twice while 4-5 guys failed to keep him down. That suspect is a champ at escaping custody and totally ignoring non lethal weapons. He resisted…for a long time. If we're talking about the 2nd location (where the beatdown occurred), was the officer limping because he got kicked, or limping because he hurt himself trying to score a field goal with Tyre's head? As for fighting his way from the ground to his feet, the only time I'd give him that, was the original stop, where he squirmed out from what looks like only one guy holding him, then bolted. At the 2nd location, I didn't really see any sign that he "fought his way from the ground, back to his feet, while 4-5 guys failed to keep him down". What I saw was initially one guy on him, yelling "Give me your hands!", while a bunch of out of breath guys walked around, then one sprays Tyre in the face with pepper spray. Then 2 guys grab Tyre's arms and hold him as one guy kicks him in the head twice, then they hold him as the guy with a baton repositions for a better angle to swing at Tyre's head/neck at least twice, then they stand him up holding his arms as officer haymaker takes the free headshots (at least 2 rights that I saw, and a left that makes Tyre's legs go limp, at which point, the 2 holding him get him back on the ground, and I think, finally cuff him). |

It has been mentioned multiple times but they never truly gave him the ability to comply. They pulled him out of the vehicle immediately. They threw him to the ground on his side and threatened to use a taser and pepper spray within seconds of taking him down. They were in such a hurry to use the taser and pepper spray, they ended up doing it to themselves. The cops did not try to de escalate the situation at any point in time. The victim did nothing to deserve any of the treatment he got. From use of force, lack of field leadership, inability for a handful to restrain a 150 pound man, to not rendering aid, to pepper spraying themselves multiple times, to bragging about the ass whooping you got to do. That was just another day for everybody involved, including Fire and the other cops who showed up. Dumpster fire. |

I've done it more times than i can remember, dozens at least, you just need at least one person to help, preferably two. If you wait for them to stop, they wont. Last guy had 20-30 pounds on me. Me, a female cop, and another guy my size got him into cuffs with him resisting the whole way. It took less than two minutes and zero strikes were thrown. They had 4-5 guys there that all had 60 pounds on me and the guy they were dealing with was very thin build. JFC the guy wasn't actively assaulting police, just resisting arrest. And pretty mildly at that. |

I was one of those cops, I'd punch the guy spraying all the fucking OC. I hated when guys got spray happy. You're not helping, moron. Not for nothin', but that dude was spry. And, those cops were scary. I wouldn't have resisted. They all had that "We're gonna stomp your ass" tone of voice. |

Looking at the totality of the officers’ actions and the multiple uses of OC, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were spray happy because the effects last much longer than a taser (think of it as a punishment) and/or spray raises less use of force questions in that department than a taser deployment so they were able to use it more often. In other words, the OC wasn’t being used to “help” them. |
