Is that a hot dog with a bunch of shredded cheese on top in the OP?

It's gross.  Tried it a couple times.  Won't be a third.

There is something very off-putting about a wet hot dog bun.   It's not even soaked with grease or chili or anything marginally appealing.  It's like they just store their buns in a pail of room temperature tap water.

No beans allowed, but you can fuck it up by ordering them as a topping.

Surprisingly less haters than normal in one of these threads. Still, more Skyline for me! Fuck goldstar though, only poor hillbilly westsiders eat Goldstar.

Agreed, but they got their start in Mt. Washington.

There might have been a time before 75 that it was a respectable place. I look down at people that choose Goldstar like I look down at Pepsi drinkers.

Cincy Chili's mostly about tradition.

It's an acquired taste that's nostalgic due to its long history. It has a limited appeal for many, it's very regional. Peeps grow up with it tho and they want it exactly as it was.

McDonnel gets this - he's done a great job unfucking a fantastic operation that got way too ambitious. Tho seems he's on his way out, with his bringing in Williams et al in and setting up the Foundation ownership.

Hopefully he finds the right successor. It's not my favorite stuff but it's a great part of Cincinnati's culture.

5 way. It is been a long time since I had it, but it tastes good, is filling and used to be inexpensive.  A nice alternative to fast food.

I grew up in the Cincinnati area.  I get Skyline any time I’m back around there.  Love it. Is Goldstar Chili still around?  They were the other big Cincy chili place in the ‘80s-‘90s at least.  They haven’t branched out as much as Skyline.

Gold Star Chili is everywhere and going strong.  I prefer Gold Star Chili over Skyline.

What makes chili "skyline chili"? I love leftover chili served with noodles, chopped onions and cheese.

Had no idea Ohio puts cinnamon in it. What else makes it skyline chili?

Skyline is the restaurant. They serve Cincinnati style chili.

Then what makes it Cincinnati chili?

The "greeks"

My opinion is...Camp Washington is good. Skyline is terrible.

Also as an aside...I hope you've tried kewpee burger in Lima if you live in OH.

I think chili has beans, noodles, and cheese.

I don’t think that’s chili.

What's the hives opinion?   I'm in Ohio so I figured I'd give it a try.  The cinnamon is an interesting twist, over all I'd eat it again.

Do the packets do it any justice?

Yes. But start with some moderate fat content meat, don’t drain all the fat, leave just a little. Fat is flavor. Shred your own cheese too. Use a good hot sauce as a topping. Something a bit hotter than Crystal. Maybe Tapatio.

Born and raised in Ohio. We often ate chili over spaghetti but not the Macedonian-style recipe that is Skyline. Never eaten Skyline's food so I wouldn't know.

I love chili over spaghetti. Childhood comfort food.

Love it.  I have an authentic copy recipe, tested against the real thing.

I am pretty sure that is an arfcommer's daughter on the cover of the Blue Press magazine.

6-way has jalapenos.

This thread has inspired me to make it tonight.

For a couple years, my WalMart used to sell Skyline in cans.  The canned product isn't as good as freshly made.
