[ARCHIVED THREAD] - SIG “ The P320. It ends today.” (Page 96 of 142)

Quoted: I own 8 M17/M18 variants... We have three, I have a full sized and compact. Wife liked the full sized so much I made her get her own. Guess I now have the motivation to get a revolver. There were a few she really liked, and they were a lot easier for her to use. |

Quoted: Saw a post today, I don't know who they are. Modern Samurai Project Effective immediately the P320 and all of it variants are no longer allowed in MSP classes. IIRC that was posted already in one of these 320 threads. There are so many it's hard to keep track.

Quoted: Apparently USAF Combat Arms & Training & Maintenance will be inspecting their M18's looking for burrs or damage to various parts including removing the strikers for inspection. Whether that will accomplish anything or not... |

Quoted: Apparently USAF Combat Arms & Training & Maintenance will be inspecting their M18's looking for burrs or damage to various parts including removing the strikers for inspection. Whether that will accomplish anything or not... Which would make it really interesting if/when an inspected and passed pistol is involved in another incident. Or maybe they find the actual root cause that explains why it happens intermittently. |

Quoted: Cooper used to advocate sending the first round into the dirt during the draw stroke with DA/SA autos. Quoted: Quoted: That's a big part of it. Glocks were introduced to a world that only knew DA revolvers, DA/SA autos, and SAO autos with manual safeties. The idea of carrying a chambered and cocked pistol with a ~5 pound trigger and no safety was completely new to the industry. Training and equipment reflected that. Most holsters were nylon or leather, and as discussed in one of these threads, some agencies actually taught LEOs with DA guns to stage the trigger on the draw. The P320 was introduced to a world where striker fired pistols (and good hard shell holsters) were an industry standard established for decades. It's not the same situation at all. I don't recall Cooper advocating that. To the contrary, I recall him saying that that would violate his rules. He did write about that technique being a solution that some people used to get past really bad DA pulls. However, I don't think that he recommended it. |

Quoted: As retarded today as it was then. Quoted: Quoted: Cooper used to advocate sending the first round into the dirt during the draw stroke with DA/SA autos. As retarded today as it was then. In the 90s, I had an instructor advocate this. He said you should use the recoil to get on target faster and then just make a zipper all the way up their body. |

Quoted: Which would make it really interesting if/when an inspected and passed pistol is involved in another incident. Or maybe they find the actual root cause that explains why it happens intermittently. I don't think they can. I think the causes for these events are multiple and that they are the results of fitment issues you would need complex instrumentation to actually suss out. I hope I'm wrong. I don't think I am, though. |

Remember when EOTechs had the "float" issue with the reticle under very cold conditions, and L3 offered to buy them all back? I remember, I sent mine in and got a check in the mail a week later no questions asked. (I more didn't like mine cuz the battery life was shit and it had already broken on me which was fixed under warranty but I digress.) Yea, Sig needs to do that with all the 320s out there people spent their hard earned money on. And reimburse for all the mags too. *Yea I know that will NEVER happen because Sig would have to admit some sort of fault. I know they won't, but they should. But they won't. |
|
Quoted: In the 90s, I had an instructor advocate this. He said you should use the recoil to get on target faster and then just make a zipper all the way up their body. In my first real pistol class at Blackwater I was beside an active duty police officer from California who was taught this with his issued P226. I got to see what I imagine fucking up majorly in BUDs looks like as the SEAL instructors materialized around him. |

Oh, and for anyone out there who is claiming that this Airman brought his own death on himself because of where he put a holstered handgun, just understand that the dildo of karma rarely arrives lubed, and I hope it is rammed far enough up your asshole that it pokes out your eyeballs. If you want to insist that there's no difference between a holstered handgun and a handled handgun, then I expect you to never carry a handgun again because it is impossible to do so and observe Cooper's four rules to the extent you are insisting on. |

Quoted: Right. And if what I saw was accurate they are actually forbidden from doing more inspections than laid out. So I don't expect them to find anything significant. It almost seems like a CYA exercise. Quoted: Quoted: CATM would be performing inspections to the TO. Right. I would suggest we don't know what we don't know and first reporting may not be accurate. Not a shill for Sig, but we haven't heard from AFOSI yet. |

Quoted: I would suggest we don't know what we don't know and first reporting may not be accurate. Not a shill for Sig, but we haven't heard from AFOSI yet. You know as well as I that if a MAJCOM makes a decision like this a couple days after the event there’s some credibility to the popular rumor that the gun “just went off”. The SF Enterprise is already initiating their CYA because they’re useless fucks totally disconnected from the units they lord over. Their memo concerning the M18 is absolute nonsense and the part about “out of abundance to reinforce confidence in the MHS” tells me all I need to know. |

Quoted: They're in storage. Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: There really need to be Congressional investigations and Hegseth needs to shitcan all use of m18/17 and order reissue of the M9 at this point. what did they do with the old M9's? They're in storage. Oh? well.... I have an idea! |

I would assume that several hundred k are in war reserve storage. Just a guess on my part however. |

Quoted: This SIG situation reads like NASA & Challenger disaster. SIG being NASA, of course. Even if a “freak mishap” occurs 0.01% when conditions are perfect for failure & unintended discharge, how many millions of M17/18s are in the wild? |

Wife liked the full sized so much I made her get her own. Guess I now have the motivation to get a revolver. There were a few she really liked, and they were a lot easier for her to use. I have four because for some god awful reason my wife seems to like Sig. We have a P320-M17, P320-M18, another X-Carry, and an actual military issue model M18 which I was keeping unfired. The P320-M17 FCU is SBR’d in a Flux Raider. I really don’t like shooting the P320’s. I much prefer and carry Glock. It’s not just the guns and the fact they’re essentially worthless that bothers me, but also that I have a ton of mags for them. Hopefully Sig does some sort of buy back down the road because they aren’t going to sell for much second hand and I wouldn’t trust them, even if there was a recall and fix. |
![]() Why Did the Army Choose the SIG P320 Over the Beretta 92 and Glock 19X? Good refresher on how skewed and shitty the military testing was for their beretta replacement. |

Quoted: Difference is they figured out the specific fuckup that caused Challenger Quoted: Quoted: This SIG situation reads like NASA & Challenger disaster. SIG being NASA, of course. Even if a “freak mishap” occurs 0.01% when conditions are perfect for failure & unintended discharge, how many millions of M17/18s are in the wild? The NASA admin stated risk of death from the shuttle was 1:10,000 vs engineers who quoted, roughly 1:200 (off the top of my head). NASA also pressured Thiokol to endorse the mission after they vetoed it due to temperature issues. Someone at SIG knows what’s happening, but like NASA admin, they’re burying their heads up their asses & hoping it will somehow go away. The problem has been replicated by FBI & is likely a mix of trigger components & “safety components” tolerances that aren’t quite tolerant with a fully cocked striker. So, under certain conditions, the gun fires without trigger action. But it’ll go away…. |
