Two points: (1) Its a very stereotypical assumption that someone supports another based on religion, same as sex, race, ethnicity, etc. (2) The gun position paper of Mitt Romney posted here on Robarms lacks any mention of Romney's position/history on AWBs unless Im missing it.... (which makes the entire document a bit useless). |
Yeah, I was screaming my head off at the TV when I heard that. |
Well, you got us. You're right; anything and everything Mormons do is motivated by religion, even if we say otherwise. ![]() I mean, even though most Mormons on this forum, including myself, have repeatedly said we don't support Romney, it means we actually do support Romney because that's part of our Secret Brotherhood. We just can't say it openly nudge, nudge, wink, wink. And when the Mormon owner of a gun business says he supports Romney because he thinks Romney has the best chance of winning in November and thus can forestall another disastrous Clinton Administration, well, then it must be because he's Mormon. No other possible reason. I'm going to add an "IBTL" here, because with such logic on display there's no way this thread is going to last. |
What? You mean the "duck" that elected Rocky Anderson as mayor of SLC several times? You know, that Rocky Anderson who is as anti-Mormon as they get. |
1- i dont give a shit about religion/sex/race/ethnicity, and neither should anyone else when making a decision like this. 2- That position paper left out romney's statement that he supports banning weapons of 'extraordinary lethality'. Dont believe me? watch the Youtube link running around in this thread. For robinson arms to support a candidate that has said publicly that he/she would actively support a ban on their products is fucking idiotic. |
|
Yes, the Romney position paper did not clearly state Romney's position and history on AWB issues. I think Robarm was uninformed and got duped. I think that Robarm will retract the endorsement shortly. ETA - I've seen Romney in person and he is a good public speaker and very polished. He would make a decent Republican candidate were he not a Democrat on gun control, healthcare, etc. |
Would it be because they both think Americans should have the freedom to own semi-auto rifles? Nope, that's not it. Are they family? Nope. Old college chums? Not that I'm aware of. Both have the first name of "Mitt"? Negatory. So tell me, what do you think the common thread is between a business man in SLC who sells semi-auto rifles and a greasy Masshole that believes in banning those same rifles? I'm just simple folk, but I don't think we'll need to bring in Sherlock Holmes, the Hardy Boys, or Scooby Fuckin' Doo to dig to the bottom of this mystery. |
How could I help you? It seems to me that Alex stated his reasons himself. If his religion is what biased him he should say so himself. If he hasn't said that, however, then you have nothing but assumption to go on. A lot of you folks here forget that Romney earned himself a very good name in Utah by how well he handled the Olympics. |
+1 it doesnt make sense. Maybe Alex just doesnt understand this.... Hopefully he will speak for himself. |
Don't get this thread locked. If you think someone is pissing on your religion, why not take it to the pit? |
If that is the case then this guy is the shittiest businessman in history, which I don't think is probably true. I cannot imagine a gun manufacturer, which has it hard as it is, not doing the research. That may be his excuse but I doubt that is what happened. And can this company even be trusted with your business after something like this even if they do retract the statement? (not directed at you, just a question) |
You mean the crooked olympics? |
Retract? I think a better excuse will be that some one hacked into his personal pc and posted on all the gun boards to support Romney
|
Sorry. I did not mean to be desparaging to all mormons. I take back the phrase "mormons are like that." I know all groups of people are composed of various types of people. I should not have lumped you or any other good people into one group. pleaSE accept my apologies, i am truly sorry. |
I don't need to. It's against COC and shouldn't be tolerated anywhere, period. ETA: and if the thread gets locked it sure isn't going to be because of me.
|
Let's keep the tread on topic... This is not about religion. Alex is supporting an anti-gun candidate... period. The point is not "why"... the point is his support of a candidate which is in conflict with both our views and what the founding fathers stated as a God given right. Alex can choose to support any candidate he desires... just as it is our choice to do business with Alex. That is the topic of this tread... let's keep it on topic. |
You've cracked the Temple Square Code, haven't you? Clever, very clever. Just please don't divulge the plans for World Takeover yet, will you? |
I better call off the super secret hit squad before people start disappearing. |
Apology accepted. And please accept my apology for unwarranted snarkiness. ETA: Page 8 still says this thread is on a fast train to lock! |
I agree. He was online and he said he would answer questions. He was online for at least 15 minutes, but answered no questions. The big question is this: Why would someone who makes Assault Type Weapons support someone who wants to ban them? The only answer I can come up with is that it i something more important to him than his business. There are very few things in my life that are more important than putting food on the table for my family. My belief in Jesus is one of them. I know that, but I will be honest with myself and others of my motives. That seems to be the issue here. |
|
Did he endorse him because they are both Moromons? Maybe so, maybe not. I don't care. Either way, for him to endorse a candidate who has so clearly stated he would ban his products goes a long way to perpetuate that stereotype, no matter if it is wrong or right. In public relations, perception=reality. Alex just stepped in big sloppy pile of shit with his customer base no matter what the reason, and the perception people are drawing from it doesn't help the perception of Mormons in the gun-politics world either, rightly or wrongly. |
So no matter Alex's motivations, you're going to judge Mormons? |
Methinks not. Maybe there's a good explanation for this. Perhaps the guys at Robinson Arms were so busy grinding away at their CNCs that they could only do half-assed research. Just trying to give 'em the benefit of the doubt. |
OMG I AM CHOKING ROFL!!! GR |
|
This sort of bizarre comment from him doesn't remind me after reading this post of his on another forum: www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showpost.php?p=751007&postcount=71 |
Me? No. People in general? More than likely, hell it is plain as day right here in this thread. Personally, I think he is just an idiot for doing it, regardless of motive. But as I said, when it come to PR perception IS reality. And that is how many will perceive it. Rightly or wrongly, he is damaging more than just his business in the eyes of gun owners. |
No, as much as you try to play your victim card and get the thread locked. Right now I'm not happy with two people who just happen to be Mormon. One is trying to lead the country and wants to ban semi-auto rifles. The other is a gun manufacturer that wants me to support the first guy for some reason. |
Your snarkiness wasn't unwarranted. That was a childish thing I said (and others). The real issue needs to be in the spotlight. People were just looking for a "reason." That really doesn't matter. You're probably right about the lock though. |
Shane333, I share this same logic with usma89 here. I won't reiterate what he said but hopefully you at least see where I'm coming from. I've got nothing against mormons and my issue with Romney is far from anything to do with religion. It has to do with his policies. Frankly, an AR ban is an instant no for me. |

) didnt see it posted here yet.
not who i'd vote for if evil assult weapons put food on my table.
