I don't know how things are where you live, but here in pawn shops, if they have enough shotguns in the rack, they will take a lot less than marked price. I often offer around half of the marked price and negotiate up from there. It doesn't cost anything to ask.

Not to hijack, but the oven cleaner takes the varnish right off the wood, huh?

I've got an AK that I wouldn't mind darkening up the handguards some.

Yep, in about 5 minutes. Just be sure to scrub it off with lots of water. I use rubber gloves and a water hose outside.

Sometimes it may take a second application, but that's about it.

Don't leave it on for extended periods as it is a caustic and if left on for long periods, will do damage to the wood.

Good post and nice job.

I just picked up an old Browning Auto-5 3 shot 20 ga, made in August 1942 (I confirmed with Browning). It's in nice condition, but I would like to get rid of some of the surface rust.
