[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Restaurants and Screaming Children (Page 2 of 8)

Having read your work on this board, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around a mental image of someone who would marry you, on purpose. My first thoughts as well. Also, you picked a family buffet-style restaurant, so you should have expected to deal with families. Families include small children, and those occasionally cry and fuss. Their business, their rules. If you didn't want to deal with that, you should have picked a different place to eat in the first place. Stiffing the server, who had no say in whether that family stayed or not, was an asshole maneuver. So is pulling a dine-and-dash, which is no better than shoplifting. You picked the restaurant; deal with the consequences of your own poor decisions. |

You're trolling and I bet none of this shit even happened. |
| In case you've been on a different planet for the last 20 years or so, 99% of parents are total assholes. There are few things that will make my blood boil quicker, and more, than some piece of shit parent who won't take their screaming crotchfruit out. Don't even get me started on church... |

So I went to a buffet yesterday for mother's day with my soon-to-be in-laws... They seated us next to a family of "respectable and definitely legal citizens" and I notice a 3 year old kid in a booster seat. My first thought is - this kid is gonna cry as soon as we sit down. Sure enough - 30 seconds into us sitting down, WAHHHHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHHH SCREAM GAHHHHHH Parents made no attempt to quiet the kid down. No apology. No taking Junior outside for awhile. They let the kid scream out straight for 10 minutes. We picked up our dishes and moved to a different table and complained to the manager, who made no attempt to speak with the family of unruly child. Family gave us nasty looks the rest of the evening. Their child continued to scream for the entire 1.5 hours we were there. Numerous other families proceeded to complain, yet the manager refused to address the situation or even walk in the vicinity of the problem family. Check comes. Paid the bill. Left no tip. Fuck stupid family and stupid restaurant owners. If I was there myself I would have walked out on the tab, but don't want to make a bad impression on soon-to-be in-laws. So what does GD do under these circumstances? Anything after that is strictly "AT YOUR OWN RISK" |
|
I wouldn't have stiffed the server, but I would make life more uncomfortable for the manager.
I never put up with my son screaming in public, and he doesn't put up with it from his kids (because they don't do it.) When they were little and got fussy, they went outside. |

Was the crying child picking your pocket, or breaking your arm? No? Well shit son, you're wrong. Kids cry. Women cry. Even some metrosexual nancy boys cry. Do you not pay your water bill because your neighbor's dog barks? When was the last time a woman cried for an hour and a half straight at the top of her lungs? Also, water ball and dog unrelated. I pay for water. It shows up, I drink it. Dog has nothing to do with it. I show up to restaurant and expect to eat a decent meal in a decent environment. If a fellow patron makes my experience miserable that damn well is the restaurants problem. Address it. Or shitty tip. Or I just leave. |
| I tip the seater $5 to seat me by no fucking kids. I speak up to the shitty parents if that plan does not work and by that it's gotta be some crazy bullshit happening and not just kids being kids. Crazy bullshit will include : kicking the back of my booth, kid walking over to my table and staring at me while eating snot, kids climbing over the booth on my shoulders, and yelling at 110+decibels. |

As the parents of a 2 year old. We do our best to keep her settled. Im sorry if sometimes they cant be consoled. But from what you are saying I am supposed to stay at home based upon the chance she might have a melt down... HA! Not going to happen. A child is a child. I will try to keep her as quiet as possible. Dont like it, eat elsewhere. Oh and the waiter you stiffed, I made sure I covered your tip for being a jerk. |

The waitress works for less than minimum wage and counts on tips to make up the difference.
It was management's fault not the waitresses for not intervening in the rude behavior of other patrons. You should of said something to the parents or moved tables like you did. But stiffing the waitress was a dick move. IMHO

Threads like these are a further reminder I should just stay home and eat food in the comfort of my own home. |

Especially if it is not their fault.

Took my mother to a brunch buffet yesterday at a local country club. There were no screaming kids, but the difference was that this brunch cost $60 per guest, there were minimum standards of dress and decorum, and I made the reservation for seven three months ago.
When you move beyond the Golden Corral level of buffets, your expectations may improve accordingly. Try it |
| Not much I can do about it really is the way I look at it. Just grin and bear it, they usually settle in a few minutes or the parent will take them back for a diaper change or whatever needs doing. I hate complaining but I guess an hour + screaming fit would be different, I don't recall seeing that much really. The one that really bugs me is when they let their kids roam the place. It's usually a bit older than toddlers and at Elias bros., Denny's, Ram's Horn type places. Yeah, this ain't the Olive garden or Outback but reel those little shits in anyways . For every table that is delighted by them there are three or four that isn't. |

My grandma was at a restaurant with my father and mother one day and they had a screaming child 2 tables over. She said to the parents "will you shut that kid up" and they decided to ignore her....so.....she threw a dinner roll at the parents and my father sat there an continued to eat like nothing had ever happened. I think she got her point across |

Me not eating there again doesn't have much consequence for the place. They won't know how they fucked up. Some other shmuck will eat there tomorrow, or the next day. Me not leaving a tip? The server knows damn why I didn't leave one, and you can bet she'll let the manager know why she was stiffed. Positive and negative reinforcement my friend. |

Once you have kids, you tune that shit out. So everyone without kids should suffer, everywhere they go, because people with kids have learned to "tune it out"? That's BS. Most normal humans breed and have offspring. Others either have taken care of relatives' kids or raised their siblings as a child, and were in a home with wailing babies most their lives. You are in such a small minority no one gives a damn. Plus, it's a buffet. It's one tier above Burger King on the "fancy restaurant" scale. |

I've left a restaurant only once due to screaming (2 at the same table) kids. We'd had drinks and been served salads when we just couldn't take it anymore.
Called the waitress over, got our tab and left 5 bucks on the table. At check-out the manager came over, apologized, asking us to please come back sometime and then comped us the tab. This was not a "family style" restaurant. Went back once and had a very nice meal, except for the constant ring-tones and yacking on cell phones by "adults".
|
|
I don't have kids but I'm an adult that is capable of handling situations.
I would have eaten my meal and went home and never noticed what another table was doing. They paid the same prices I would have, not their problem or the managers that you have sensitive ears. |
