[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Restaurants and Screaming Children (Page 3 of 8)
| this is why i dont eat at restaurants filled with what i will describe as "riffraff". the same people that go to buffets are the same ones that shop at walmart. i wouldve walked out the minute the fucking thing started crying and mom and dad didnt do anything to shut it up or take it outside. |

I don't have kids but I'm an adult that is capable of handling situations. I would have eaten my meal and went home and never noticed what another table was doing. They paid the same prices I would have, not their problem or the managers that you have sensitive ears. You'd notice if you heard screaming in your ear the entire time. |

When was the last time a woman cried for an hour and a half straight at the top of her lungs? Also, water ball and dog unrelated. I pay for water. It shows up, I drink it. Dog has nothing to do with it. I show up to restaurant and expect to eat a decent meal in a decent environment. If a fellow patron makes my experience miserable that damn well is the restaurants problem. Address it. Or shitty tip. Or I just leave. Obviously you've never met my sister-in-law. The water bill and dog are as related as the Kid crying and your failing to tip, or walk out on your bill. Your expectations are out of the norm. You are in the wrong. This isn't a movie theater where silence is expected. This isn't a symphony or library where silence is paramount. This is a RESTAURANT. Going to walk out on your bill because the kitchen was too loud? Maybe they sat you outside, and road noise made you turn up your hearing aid. Dislike the environment? Well then you pay what you owe, and you chalk it up to a lesson learned and avoid that restaurant in the future. Or maybe you avoid going out, and live like a crazed shut-in. Did the restaurant pick your pocket, or break your arm? No. Did the crying child pick your pocket or break your arm? No. Did the server pick your pocket, or break your arm? No. Oh nose! Your dining experience was less satisfactory due to another patron crying! It must be the restaurant's fault and the server's fault and obviously the parent's fault because a different sentient person was making noise! What shall we do!! Let's STEAL from the restaurant! Let's ROB the server! Let's DEMAND and apology from the parents! |
I had that happen to me at a local restaurant. A lady sat next to a booth from me. The kid started screaming I listen to it for about two minutes I looked around and found an empty booth far away from them. I picked up my tray and moved there. As I was getting up the lady looked at me like this.
As I ate she must have got the hint and took the kid outside and stayed outside till i left. |

If it means that much to the restaurant, they can have a contract I sign up front stating the terms and conditions of their restaurant eating experience. If I don't like the terms, I won't eat there. If I like the terms I will. And if I agreed to them, I would be obliged to adhere. I don't recall agreeing to anything up front, however. Quoted:

No, you don't need to sign a contract. You pay for your damn tab. |

Whoever has the best lawyer wins. That's the way the world works. Go to a Walmart and let them see you stealing 2 sodas and lets see if they call the police. That would be interesting. |

Sorry that your bullshit ass fine dining experience at a buffet was ruined. Good job fucking over the server. Classy. Why does everyone on arfcom think all buffets = Golden Corral? Or that "rifraff" doesn't go to more upscale joints? Last time I checked, even scumbags and poor people can get credit cards and eat at whatever place they choose. PS - I've been to Golden Corral. Never again. Never ever, again.

But from what you are saying I am supposed to stay at home based upon the chance she might have a melt down... HA! Not going to happen. A child is a child. I will try to keep her as quiet as possible. Dont like it, eat elsewhere. Oh and the waiter you stiffed, I made sure I covered your tip for being a jerk. Not doing that is rude and arrogant.

I would say something like "it is very rude to force others to endure your child's bad behavior". But a bunch of butt hurt people would dog pyle me with their selfish justifications and ad hominum attacks so I wont. It's become very obvious in this thread exactly who the problem parents are.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Something tells me that you don't have the better lawyer and you'd be charged with a crime all because your precious silence was broken by a child. Kids cry, sometimes a lot, and some parents are shit...just deal with it man and tip your fucking waitress. |

The world's full of all kinds of people. Some are inconsiderate, some have children, and some are both. Maybe try the ambiance of a Chuck E. Cheese next year? We're not talking about a $7 per person buffet here. I realize some of you are only familiar with Golden Corral style buffets but they aren't all like that. Threads like these are a further reminder I should just stay home and eat food in the comfort of my own home. Re-read the first sentence in my post above. Mother's Day at a restaurant, any restaurant, will always and forever be filled by people with screaming children, even the places where the omelet chef wears a toque. |

Should have been "would have walked out before any food was eaten". I can see how it was interpreted the wrong way. I'm not going to sit here and try to defend trying to eat a full meal for free. That would be douche-y. But I still wouldn't pay for the 2 sodas.

Yes, if your special snowflake cannot behave herself, either stay home or spring for a babysitter. Also, people with children should avoid high end restaurants altogether. It was a buffet, no the fanciest steak house in town. A certain level of noise and activity is to be expected. On the other hand, if the curtain crawler decides to go into into a full blown tantrum, a parent ought to take the kid out to the car till it settles down. |

We picked up our dishes and moved to a different table and complained to the manager, who made no attempt to speak with the family of unruly child. Because it's not their job. He's not a cop, or a security guard. Also, the people who have screaming kids? They paid money and have the same right to be there as you do. Unless they violate the rules of the establishment. Quoted:
Why reward you for working with shitty management? Seek employment elsewhere. I'm not obligated to leave a god damn thing, and if I have a miserable experience, they get no tip. Should I also be nice and leave a tip if the cook screw up by food, because - hey - it's not the server's fault? You're correct in the fact you're not obligated to leave anything. But just because some kid screamed for God knows what reason, doesn't make it right that you stiffed a server over something she couldn't fix or control. Quoted:
How would you skip out on a buffet? Don't those places charge you on the way in? At the last buffet I went to (Sweet Tomatoes), the way it's set up is there's one way in and one way out. You walk in, get a salad(of which you can get only one trip of salad) and then you pay. You can't NOT pay the tab. Unless OP went to a restaurant that had a special buffet set up that was for Mother's Day only. Quoted:
You're dumb for going out to eat on Mother's Day. Every restaurant is a zoo. It's like going to an Irish bar on 3/17 and thinking you can sit and have a relaxing glass of wine. Exactly. We had a few places in mind and then realized that any place would have problems. So we went to a restaurant(not necessarily fast food) that we didn't have to deal with lines, servers or some crazy long wait. So what does GD do under these circumstances? Not a damn thing. |

A full blown tantrum is never acceptable IMO. I have a high tolerance for bullshit, but this really crossed my threshold. |

No one pays up front. This isn't Golden Corral. Very simple - manager speaks with family and says child is a disturbance. Please be respectful of other customers. Kid still screaming in 5 minutes? Sir, mam, please leave this establishment. You're causing a disturbance. Rules of the establishment are whatever the managers decide based on how much something is affecting their business. Something harming business? Deal with it. The reality is that no one wants to be that guy and call out someone's "special snowflake", so they grin and bear it. |

We were at a chain restaraunt ealier this year with my three year old boy. They had us seated near the emergency exit. Sure enough when I'm bringing him back from the restroom, he runs up to the door and presses on the release handle and sets off the alarm. It took management about 6 minutes to shut off the loudly wailing alarm. I put the fear of God into the boy and made him go around and apologize to everyone in our area, albeit in tears. He will never go that again.
P.S. I paid for our meal and left an nice tip. |
