I present to you my church shoes. They are quite comfortable and I have them in at least 10 different colors / patterns.

And yes, I'm over 40

I thought this thread was about the kids shoes with rollers in the heels. I haven't seen any of them lately, thank god. Are the skateboard shoes a city thing?  The only people that wear them around here are a few kids and the rare douchbags that refuse to grow up. I know city people are different though. Buying expensive athletic shoes and not wearing them a month later because they got a small scuff mark in them.

I'm still going to pretend this is about Heelies.

I think my last pair of vans was in 94.  But I wouldn't hate on someone my age wearing them.  I bought a pair of DCs on clearance.

I've been wearing Vans for almost 20 years. My daughter wears them now too.  I love them. Tie them once when I buy them and I can slip my for in and out without having to retie them.

I wear sneakers to work, and hiking boots or steel-toes elsewhere. No skate shoes for me, but other folks wearing them doesn't exactly give me heartburn.

Airwalks or Vans, anything else is faggotry, ESPECIALLY any of that DC poser flat bill "I support Tap out" ICP fan crap. If you wanna look like you're trying to be Corey or Chum Lee from Pawn Stars then by all means where DC stuff.

I've owned and still own several pairs of Vans, but I'll never get the thing where people wear them virtually untied, with the padding in the tongue not even slightly compressed by the laces.

I'm a pretty active sort, and I don't like the unsure feeling that loosely worn footwear provides.

I wear them whenever I am at the gym. Lifting in big pillow soled shoes sucks.

I wore them up until my mid 30's, then switched to trail running shoes for casual stuff.

They're way more comfortable, especially with inserts.

IIRC I liked DVS a lot, they just fell apart too quickly. Trail runners are light and durable, albeit a bit more expensive. I grew up skateboarding and the shoes were something I didn't really think about until I did.

I haven't stopped wearing skate shoes, but some do go good with casual wear, just go basic with it all if you wear casual clothes.

I came here to ask that same thing.

Is it just the brand name, or is it a particular style of shoe?

Vans/Airwalk is the brand name.  Skate shoe is a style.  Mainly canvas or soft leather high top that was flexible yet provided ankle support and a sole that worked very well with grip tape (like sand paper on top of your deck.)  Usually had extra stitching or even an ollie patch to combat the extreme wear from the grip tape.  Normal basketball shoes (especially in the 80s) were too bulky, too rigid and would last about 1 week skating.

I have 2 pairs of Vans and wear them from time to time.  Comfy inexpensive shoes.  I did skate a lot but haven't in 20 years.  OP is jelly.
