Likely standard AR mags as STANAG mags would work in an AR180 with slight mods.

Nifty!

Would also like to see a shorty. Though, given their success with the Retro line they introduced last year, why not just make a replica of the original?

Kinda neat.  I'm not sure it's $800 neat, but I like that Brownells is doing cool stuff.

While this is really cool and might scratch the itch for some folks, I think I'll hold out for a complete rifle that doesn't use an AR lower.

I wouldn't want one.

Weird.

If I wanted an AR180, and I kind of do I'd want the whole thing to be an AR180. Not half.

I want an actual, or proper retro clone, AR-180.  I also want this upper, especially a short one, because the system is pretty good and allows for some things the AR-15 doesn't, while retaining the ergonomically excellent AR-15 lower.

Now do a pistol/SBR upper, Brownell's.  That has potential to be really cool.
SBA3 or other suitable brace, red dot and perhaps a different design of charging handle.

Other than a reasonable price and decent reliability I couldn't ask for more.
I started a thread in their industry forum to ask price and if they're planning on short uppers.  It probably wouldn't hurt if all the other folks who want to see that upper were to go and voice their support for the idea.
Definitely do not post a link to it whatever you do.
Don't post a link to the folding stock they are using either...

I agree. It's not particularly egregious pricing. Hopefully it's successful enough to sprout a bunch of different barrel lengths and handguard combinations.

I may get run off with pitch forks, but if it had a 14.5" or 16" barrel with a short enough M-LOK handguard for me to mount up my reflex suppressor, I would pair it with an Ares SCR lower for a very amusing dedicated hunting AR-Not-AR.

Meh.  Do it full retro with a AR-180 lower (being able to accept standard AR mags would be acceptable), an AR-180 style folding stock, and AR-180 style handguard (the M-Lok can be an option).

Hmm, I wonder how many parts can interchange with the AR180/180B series.  That would be a plus.

Hell ya, another project to add.

I've always liked my dad's Costa Mesa AR-180, and a machined retro uppoer with your machined lower with retro furniture would be pretty sweet and good enough for me.

But I definitely like this idea for a pistol.  AR-pistol with a pistol version of this upper or a 180-spec one, and an AR-15 lower or your lower, respectively, would be pretty sweet.  Reliable (AR-18 s a proven system given its use in so many other designs), folding stock AR pistol that is fully functional with a folding stock (as an SBR) or brace (as a pistol), especialy if shaped to ensure unimpeded trigger access when folded, and compatible with modern furniture, optics mounts, etc. would be awesome.
