Why did you come back when this life pretty much suks ?  ??

Because it doesn't. Unless you make it that way.

My aunt died then came back. Her experience.

She was in heaven and met Jesus face to face. Jesus show her a glimpse of her siblings and their spouses. All their faces were clear to her except her husbands. Her husband although a good man was not a christian and clearly that was revealed. Jesus gave here a message for certain people in the church she attended that she only shared in private.

Jesus told her her work was not done and she begged not to go back. She was put back in her body. She lived a few more years and passed.

For those that have had surgery or just a colonoscopy like myself, do you remember the lights out effect from the anesthesia then waking up after it was all done with no recollection of what happened in between? Do you think death will be any different?

Yes, I do.

Free will, there's your answer.  People have freedom, and unfortunately that has led to a world of suck because not all people are good.  If God was to intervene and smite the bad people it would remove our free will.

Also you say life sucks, but think about all the pleasure and good experiences you've had.  My life isn't perfect, but I would never trade it for never existing.

Hospice RN here.
There have been cases where as a patient passed away that lights appeared in the room, circled the patient, and disappeared as the patient passed.
Have seen a patient come out the room to go down the hall, the other nurse & I jumped up to get her to prevent a fall, she was gone, and we dashed into the room. The 3 daughters were crying as the patient had just passed.
At that hospital, there were 2 suites where hospice patients were typically assigned. It was always great fun to watch new housekeepers go into those rooms for an extended break. We would break out in laughter as they come out screaming at something or someone would appear behind them to touch them.

At my grandmother’s funeral there was a joyous feeling of light in the room. Even my 7 year old son said pretty much the same thing. She was a beautiful Christian woman that genuinely loved Jesus and loved others.

I think the argument is there is enough O2 and other chemicals to enable biological process in the brain to continue to function.  For whatever reason the brain then defaults to create the NDE in some people.  The NDE is then recalled when the person regains consciousness.

You live long enough you will have an NDE.

In mine I saw myself from birth to the present (at the time) in fast forward and then my friends and family popped into my head as the very last thing before the accident.   I was thinking of them individually and wishing I had a chance to say all the things I have wanted to say but was too scared or proud or ashamed to tell them.

After the fact it amazed me how much time slowed down and how much I was able to think about huge amounts of information in the span of a few seconds.

“These are situations where you feel your life is in imminent danger. It might be a near-miss car accident or a sudden fall. These people generally don't experience the tunnel and light, but they often report their life "flashing before their eyes."

When my brother and I were teens we were driving to work one Sunday morning and were forced into oncoming traffic. I cannot explain it but my whole life flashed before my eyes when we narrowly avoided an oncoming car. I can still see the driver of that vehicle panicking and swerving to avoid us. The car that caused it (late lane shift to avoid an on ramp) continued to drive as if nothing happened. I think about that from time to time.

Long ago, I read a book from a cardiac surgeon who saw people die from heart conditions (and occasionally come back) fairly often.  He said that of all of the people who came back, IF he asked them right away, virtually all of them could tell him about their experience... but within something like 15 minutes, almost none of them could recount it.

I have done a little reading on the subject.  I find it deeply disturbing by how inconsistent NDEs are.  This makes no sense to me if the phenomenon reveals real information about the afterlife.  What people see varies wildly.  Some see Jesus, others see a 'being of light", some see Hindu gods... some see a light, but they see it as impersonal. Some people have and NDE and become devoted Christians, and some people have an NDE and become convinced that specific religions are meaningless.

The most disturbing to consider are the negative experiences... which make up about 20% reported of the whole.  There are three main categories of negative NDEs:
1) common NDE experiences (out of body experiences, seeing relatives) that the patient finds terrifying instead of happy.
2) stereotypical experience of "Hell"
3) an experience of being abandoned forever in a void

The issue is, there appears to be no relationship with the life of the person and if they have a positive or negative NDE.  Sometimes children have hellish NDEs and criminals have peaceful ones for example.  There was even a case documented where a person had two NDEs, one hellish and one heavenly.

What is the meaning of an experience like this?
https://dancingpastthedark.com/articles-2/an-experience-of-the-void/

Given the apparently random nature of NDEs the only coherent explanation I can come up with is that they are a hallucination... but really I find them baffling.

Something similar when I worked long-term:

Nurse and I heard something fall in an old woman’s room. We go in and some of her belongings were on the floor, however she was laying in bed and obviously didn’t get up to knock the items off her shelf. She said it was her husband and that he did it because she wouldn’t go with him-he was mad. Her husband was long dead.

We’re sitting at the nurses station and I’m charting and the nurse jumps up and starts walking fast calling the woman’s name. She was walking down the hall. However, she was actually dead in her room. She decided to go with her husband after all.

Simulation theory.  If the universe is a simulation, then whoever designed the sim could have added an afterlife. When a person dies, their files get transferred to the afterlife of their belief system. If they were a non-believer, maybe they get deleted. Reincarnation? They get to do it again as a cow or a dog.

You know, I've only heard females tell this sort of account and not men.

Maybe they don't die as hard as we do.

On a serious note though, I'm not sure in the afterlife that there are more than just humans who inherit the kingdom of God.

I mean, not like humans but, you know, the animals and pets that people once knew.

Like maybe an exact representative clone or something like that.

You know, somewhat like what mankind can do now.

The Bible states that God will give us the desires of our hearts because He loves us so dearly the Bible says.

There will be animals and fauna in heaven as I couldn't imagine heaven without them.

I wouldn't be surprised if this indeed will take place.

Even once you're actually dead (no coming back) the brain continues to fire neurons for a time after.

Obviously no one knows whats going on in the mind of the dead person at that point.

I would imagine folks who flatline for a period experience the same thing. If they are revived and remember anything that is where this discussion is really at.

Choose the hard path.

And yes, I'm getting baptized at 44 years old.   These kinds of reports remind me that the answers we seek are often right in front of us, but the propaganda of modern life so effectively distracts us from one another, and from God.   If you want to believe, then believe.   and hold yourself accountable.

The only near death experience I’ve ever had was when I was 4 or 5.  No tunnels of light or anything of that sort, just something saving my life.  I was in a small creek when I went into a deep hole created by an eddy.  I remember getting up to my chest and feeling the gravel underneath me slipping away as the hole got deeper.  The next thing I remember is being under water and no way to get out because the banks of the hole was lose gravel and kept slipping away.  I then remember something bright pulling me out and putting me on the bank of the creek, then it was gone. I gagged and puked the water out and started screaming and crying.  My dad, who was further the creek came running.  It was a very rural area and no one else was around.

I was in a high speed car wreck (over 120 mph) and swear a lady that seemed like she was glowing softly in a white dress appeared sitting next to me right as shit went south. She was beautiful. The whole accident I just stared straight into her eyes while she just had this calming smile and everything was in complete slow motion. Every crunch, crack, and pop I heard as the car was demolished. When it stopped she just vanished and I walked away with nothing but some bruises. I never felt fear through the whole thing. Some things are just hard to explain.

...But that's not all!

You sir, have a breath [pneuma]. The breath of life, & you shall surely give that up some day.

There are two deaths. Everyone will experience go through the first one.

The second death is reserved for Death & Hades [the realm of the dead] which are cast into the lake of fire.

I entreat you, I beseech you  . You can experience 'new Life' in the now.  Jesus is the Way, He is the Light.

I'm not so sure how helpful it is to lump in near death experiences with actual death experiences when writing a research paper. In my mind, there's a clear distinction between flatlining and being in a coma due to severe physical trauma. I'm not trying to marginalize people, but, but if you didn't actually die, I don't know what relevance the afterlife is to the person's experience. The afterlife is where you go when you die, not when you're in a coma because your body/brain is repairing itself. You aren't dead.

I know people tend to blur that line, but I don't really think it's helpful if you're trying to analyze experiences to assess whether there's an afterlife. If I want to know about the United Kingdom, I wouldn't seek out the experiences of people that sailed past it on on a boat or flew over it in a plane. You kind of need to have actually set foot in the country to be able to tell me about your experience in the UK.

I actually had a similar experience, but I don't think I legitimately "died". Just had a oxygen deprived (and maybe CO2 overloaded) brain.

Back in the mid 90's, when I was a kid, my grandmother used to buy us a membership to a pool every summer. And she used to take all of us cousins to the pool several days a week.

One summer my sister and I decided to try to swim length wise across the pool underwater in one breath. This was a distance of approximately 39 yards (measured from google earth).

I know world class athletes in GD could probably do this easily, but it was a tall order for middle school kids.

We never made it, but got pretty close several times. What happed to both of us more than once was after awhile your vision would go to "points" (I could see how this would be interpreted as a tunnel), things would get really quiet, warm, peaceful. The only thing in your mind was the movements of your limbs "stroke, stroke, stroke", and the fighting against the urge to breathe.

One time in particular I pushed really hard, cause I had gotten very close a couple days before. In any case, during this period of calm about 75% of the way across the pool, different thoughts came into my head. I felt like I was flying above the pool, and could "see" my grandmother sitting in her chair reading her book (something she did every time we went there). Then I felt like I was in the water "among" the legs little kids in the shallow end as if I were a small fish (I was no where near them, and we were separated by a fence underwater). It was unbelievably calm, and peaceful, and warm. I thought "you know, if I died right now I don't think I'd care". Then, a split second later a separate thought popped into my head "wait WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOING!?" and instantly stopped swimming, stood up, and gasped for air.

My sister, who was observing the "run" did not realize any of this had occurred, so it was not like I was "dead" floundering in the water. From her perspective I was swimming the whole time. The experience disturbed me, and I didn't tell her about it.

She had a similar thing happen to her a couple days later (not the outer body experience, but the calm and being a peace with death), and I saw her starting to go down, grabbed her, picked her up above the surface and after she caught her breath I told her "We can't do this anymore". She agreed. And that was the end of that.

It wasn't until later that we realized how similar our experiences had been. Scary to think one of us could have died.

Here's a real pisser:  I had a heart attack and died, was successfully resuscitated, and don't remember a single thing about it.  I remember heading home from the hardware store... two weeks later I woke up in the hospital in St. Louis.  In a way the memory hole has been one of the hardest parts of the ordeal to overcome; I had no way of associating the things I'd heard and read about what happened with how I felt and what I remembered.  It's quite disorienting.

It's also very frustrating to go that far and not really learn anything about what does or doesn't await us on the other side.

Only 40% report the white light and meeting loved ones thing, that kind of tracks with percentage of the world's population that of a certain religion.
Could have been bad enough you blocked out the trauma.   Maybe some light repenting and begging God for forgiveness is in order?
