I had a NDE when I was four. Fell in a pool and drowned. Very peaceful as I looked up and could see the sun shining through the surface of the water. Then after that the black closed in. Then air was looking down at myself on the side of the pool with everyone looking down at me and I could see my eyes were closed. Then I opened my eyes and at that moment I was looking into the faces of everyone.  I was too young to understand what had happened, other than my mom saying u almost drowned.  Now much older I realize I did.

Truth be told I should probably try DMT but I'm way too scared.  I have also had sudden onset cardiac arrest (July '21) and me wife said I was dead.  Responding cop (who was literally seconds away saved my life with 20+ minutes of CPR).  It was like I was hit in the head with a sledgehammer.  Instant lights out woke up 3 days later in cardiac ICU.  I have absolutely NO memories of that experience.  Which I find odd considering my memories from the car crushing event.  There was evidence i struggled under the car (blood spray from my face in all directions).  I also have no memory of the car falling or being on top of me.  Last thing I remember is grabbing a 12mm wrench to break the driveshaft loose and 3 hits with a lump hammer (there were 4).

maybe because the car crushing took so much longer "to complete" my brain had time to process "the end", I just don't know.  But there was another place.  A place where utter contentment and peace exist.  A place full of solace and awe and wonder.  Sounds weird even to me as an engineer "I WANT PROOF"!  But that doesn't exist.  But I was there.  I know it as sure as sure can be.  It's not for me to change your mind, or make you believe.

Every time I tell my story I caution all of you it can all be taken from you in an instant.  Find Joy in your life, actively seek it out and relentlessly persue it

Your first statement echoes the James Leininger story.  His story first started getting told on TV, like 20/20.   Little 3-4 year old boy who knew more about airplanes than a child that age ought to.   Was having nightmares and kicking at that blankets and telling his parents that  he was trapped, and "little man can't get out".
Then he tells his parents he was glad he picked them, watching them on their honeymoon.
He named the carrier (escort carrier) he former self flew from on his last mission.   I think it was Chichi Jima where he was shot down and died, unable to bail out and the plane was seen going down in flames.
He said he previous memories started to diminish the older he got.
When he was maybe 16-17 some TV show followed up and the went out to Chichi Jima by boat and tossed soem flowers and a wreath into the ocean to make his peace and say goodbye to the earlier James.  The kid was crying.
Amazing story.

I had an uncle that was on his way into the hospital to see his wife. She had brain cancer surgery a week or so earlier. On his way up the steps to the emergency entrance, a nurse saw him go down. Heart attack. Years later he only mentioned the subject he rarely spoke of by saying he was never afraid of death since. He didn't seem inclined to speak more on the subject so I didn't push it.

I had a widowmaker while visiting someone in the hospital  recieved CPR a total of 44minutes  stents failed the first time  my cardiologist  said I was dead at least 25minutes  . The hospital received a natl award for  my case he also said at my last appointment  that he has colleagues that were on the fence with christianity and that my case made their decision as I should  not be alive and in the shape I am  He and others with my case all asked what I saw I told them a saw nothing  I wasn't saved  and have to wonder if that's why  needless to say I'm in church now and doing the best i can as I owe my life to several people that worked their ass off to save it

The only near death experience I’ve ever had was when I was 4 or 5.  No tunnels of light or anything of that sort, just something saving my life.  I was in a small creek when I went into a deep hole created by an eddy.  I remember getting up to my chest and feeling the gravel underneath me slipping away as the hole got deeper.  The next thing I remember is being under water and no way to get out because the banks of the hole was lose gravel and kept slipping away.  I then remember something bright pulling me out and putting me on the bank of the creek, then it was gone. I gagged and puked the water out and started screaming and crying.  My dad, who was further the creek came running.  It was a very rural area and no one else was around.

I get your skepticism. I’m undecided on their cause myself.

Apologies if this is obtuse but what is the evolutionary benefit of a NDE? Wouldn’t it be counterproductive if the instinct to survive were the only thing governing consciousness?
View Quote

Not everything needs an evolutionary benefit. The human brain, as evidenced by dreams, is a mess. As long as it doesn't make you less likely to have kids, it makes no difference.

You lose some blood to the brain and your system is flooded with endorphins, it's no surprise people have crazy experiences. And I don't buy the stories of people k owing things they couldn't,  just like i don't buy fortune tellers claiming the same.

Have you ever done nitrous? I did in college and it creates a truly bizarre experience where you sort of lose time and you have this vague sensation that a bunch of time passed and things happened but it's pure feeling/sensation and you can't conjure any details. In real life, it might have been 20 seconds. Not surprising an NDE could seem crazy.

As for the nature of the universe I know exactly 1 thing that trumps all else - you can't create 'something' out of nothing, or turn 'something' into nothing. I see that matter exists now, so it has and always will exist.

This means the universe has always existed in some form, and always will in some form. That's it we are motes in a universe infinite in time,  and possiblyeven infinite in size and extent. Nothing else to be gleaned from any available facts.

I have had several experiences with completely unexplainable events, some directly involving death of people close to me.
I'm not deeply religious, despite being raised in households as such, but I will say the belief of something bigger than humankind and that of a spiritual realm has guided me to make better decisions throughout my life.

I look at it this way, what do I have to lose if I believe there is an afterlife? Absolutely nothing, other than ridicule from those tthat don't. And those people's opinions matter very little to me in the big picture.

A few years back, I thought they attempted an experiment where they wrote some text on one side of paper, pointing upwards towards the ceiling in the OR.

When they had a patient register an NDE, they would ask the patient what the sign read and from what I remember, none of them had the correct answer.

It would seem that this type of phenomenon could be tested using similar means.

Have any studies been done to see if NDE's are reported in non Judaeo-Christian cultures?  Being religious or not, everyone in this culture has at least heard of an afterlife involving heaven and hell.  That may have some impact of what the brain puts out when a complete shutdown may be imminent.   Would someone in central China or in an isolated Amazon tribe facing the same situation have a similar experience?

Older man I know in his early 70s, drank, partied, and whored is way through life. Banged women 50 years his junior.

Hosted a porn on his yacht. Is a great chef and can entertain and tell a joke like nobody I have ever met.

2 years ago, he had a bad reaction to a vaccine. His tongue started to swell up. Drove himself to the hospital.

Got to the ER and could barely breath. Passed out. Wakes up a week later.

Dr said if he took 30 seconds longer to get to the ER he would have crashed and died before someone could get to him.

What’s interesting is what he said while he was unconscious for a few days.

While he was out, a dark cloud rolled towards him and an ominous voice called out, “You’re mine.”

When he woke up he was a changed man. That voice scared the hell out of him, literally. He found God and spends his remaining time on earth to help others.

One hell of a dream to scare a sinner to a saint.

Not a dream. He was given a 2nd chance and after 50 years of sin, he woke up a forever changed man.

You could see it in his eyes. For the first time when I looked at him, his eyes now have a Soul.

I have told my story here close to 20 times on my anniversary- February 28, 1998.  I was crushed my my Mustang attempting to change the clutch and knocked the car off my jackstands.  5 day coma, last rites, so blue I was black.  Virtually no hope and Dr were talking about harvesting my organs with my wife.  I have also been on that NDE site to leave a testimonial.

Doubt all you want, but I KNOW there is something else and it's beautiful!

Why did you come back when this life pretty much suks ?  ??

Because it doesn't. Unless you make it that way.

By the age of 20, I was sure I did not want kids, because life pretty much sucks, did not want to pass on the suk.  At the age of almost 70, I chose wisely.  Still have the same opinion.
