After the out-of-body experience, people say they're transported into another realm. Many pass through a tunnel and experience a bright light. Then they're greeted by deceased loved ones, including pets, who are in the prime of their lives. Most people report an overwhelming sense of love and peace. They feel like this other realm is their real home.

How do the “born again” Christians who feel you have to be baptized as an adult reconcile their faith with the experiences of so many Christians of other denominations who experience a NDE?
View Quote

Baptism is an outward expression, someone who believes. They are identifying with Christ, His death, burial & resurrection. A person who chooses to be baptized should have this understanding. That they are identifying with His baptism. The age a person understands this, good for them.

Jesus himself baptizes with the Holy Spirit & fire.

I like to get this out there, and clarify:
When children of God say 'born again' it isn't a baptism, it is a 'birth'. These, are
who were born not of natural conception (will of man), physical impulse nor that of a natural father, but of God. God has given us, those who believe in His name the right [authority] to become His children. A new creation, through the new birth.

When you're baptized as an infant is it likely more your parents dedicating you to God, because a young child or infant really doesn't have  understanding yet? When you do understand, you can decide to believe in the Son of God yourself.

There are no age requirements written that I am aware of?

Eta: personally I have no issue with those denominations. Denominations are a moot point with me. Jesus isn't too concerned with your flavor of denomination. The gates do not have your denomination written above it. Jesus is interested in you, not your religion per se.

Yes, and no.

Ingested, with additional components: no
Smoked: absolutely

If the experience paralleling NDE is the goal; the rocket ride, confusion, comfort, companionship, vague understanding, and all too soon crash landing back to reality is right on track with my experiences on both sides of the fence.

Ingested, the entrance is far more manageable, and the experience is exponentially deeper.  I’d speculate that the ingested, longer journey would be closer to the equivalent of what happens if the CPR isn’t successful.

Eventually, it is time to go back, but it’s more of a glide down, than a drop right back into yourself.

In either method, one has to let go, separate, and fully trust that you’ll be back; only then can you go.
Fight it, and you’ll win, but it’s going to be uncomfortable for a bit, and not really deeply rewarding.

In short, the fast ride answers a yes/no question to spirituality, the long ride is taking a semester class exploring the “yes” answer.

And, much like NDE’s, not everyone is met with a pleasant destination, and it’s not always the ones you think it’ll be.

I don't like to talk about it, but I had a life changing experience in late 2021 that bought be three weeks in a coma, five weeks in the ICU, and three weeks of rehab. I am 100% convinced that I died, though my family said I didn't. They told my Sister had I not went to the ER that fateful night, that I wouldn't have lived through it.

Things have gotten hazy about most of what I call drug dreams as they used nearly 300 bottles of propofol on me, but the one thing that is still clear as day, is the white room. I was in a white room that was ultra bright, but without anything else. It was just me on a table  as my breathing slowed to a complete stop. I could feel the breaths coming less and less, and I knew I was dying.

Unfortunately for me, I wound my ass back up in the hospital for the second time in early 2022. I lost another several months of my life to a coma, ICU, and rehab. I've lost nearly two years to this, but am better now than I have been in a long time.

For anyone wondering. It wasn't covid, but hypercapnia that lead to full respiratory failure.

It might be for some, but then not so much for others.

These things are above and beyond the current scientific method as most would agree for now.

However, on the other hand, some might say that since NDEs cannot be fully reconciled to the current scientific method then they could not possibly be real.

I would speculate that many NDEs could be something else besides what NDEs are purported to be.

Or in some cases people are not telling the truth and never had a NDE at all.

I personally believe that NDEs could be real, and many do, but there are some emotionally disturbed individuals out there for one reason or the other that believe in NDEs and have claimed to have had them as well.

We all have plenty of proof of God and an afterlife every day we exist in this life.
It is up to each of us to accept that as fact or not.

The earth and all of us are not here "by accident". It's ridiculous for a logical mind
to think so. God put thought and work into His creation. If there were no afterlife,
it would all be pointless. Why the huge elaborate effort for us to learn if we don't
carry on that knowledge?

It's very sad that some of you reject God by choice. You BELIEVE there is no God,
and no afterlife. That is your religion. Deep down in your soul, you know the truth.
You reject that truth in your mind, but you still know the truth.

If you get angry at people of faith, you need to ask yourself why that is.
Is the anger because you know God exists but you don't want to submit to God?

As to those who have had NDEs but no experience that you remember, don't think
that God doesn't know who you are or that you have been abandoned. I believe
it's because you did not need or were not ready for that type of experience.
Nothing more, don't get worked up about it.

We are all here for a reason. You should know that because you are here.

May God bless and have mercy on us all through His Son, Jesus Christ.

At times life can suck.  What can be done?  Well, you can choose a loving spouse, start a family, create children and work together with them to make the world suck a little less due to their efforts and presence.  The vast majority of the time you are doing this can and should bring joy to you, your family, and those you interact with.  So much joy, that most of the time you can ignore the temporary sucky parts.

Or, you can choose to dwell on the suck around you, and ignore the positive things.

I feel sorry for you.  Based on your statement above, it seems you have spent the best years of your life focused on misery, and haven't learned joy.  That sucks.

I've been leaning more towards "you get recycled into another person" from experiences I've read in the last few years.

It seems whatever religion you are accomodates the experience with those beliefs and primary figures whether you are Christian, Muslim, Hindu, etc...

I've also read a way out there eyebrow raising story from someone claiming that "going towards the light" is not something you should do as it allows aliens to re-allocate your soul in their best interest, vs. just getting recycled.

While this is way out there, it made me think if aliens are directing our souls for whatever purpose they believe, whether benign or not- it means "going towards the light" is like we are a fish seeing a hook dangling in the water with a worm on it as we die and we get caught when our soul is departing.  Would make for a great Sci-Fi story at least.

Not a near death experience by any stretch.

I was in the sleep lab for part 2, the titration study.

I was all wired up with an ECG and an EEG… the goop they put in your hair for the electrodes.

Near the end of the night, I had what I thought was a dream.

I saw my deceased grandmother.

And strangely enough my grandmother’s neighbor ….ling ago deceased.

I was at my grandparents house …walking up out of the woods.

And when I saw my grandmother outside of her house “She goes there’s somebody in the front yard who wants to meet you!”

I walk around to the front and there was my first dog, a vizsla.  He sat for me and I knelt down to say hello to him and pat him on the head.  Instead he hopped up slightly and gave me a hug.

Then I woke up absolutely bawling my eyes out.

About 2 weeks later at the follow up appointment with the doc I said, “WOW!  That extra oxygen getting to my brain really gave me vivid dreams.”

He looked puzzled.  Then he started flipping through my chart.  The he said “According to this, you didn’t dream at all!”

Hmmnnn….

Here's a real pisser:  I had a heart attack and died, was successfully resuscitated, and don't remember a single thing about it.  I remember heading home from the hardware store... two weeks later I woke up in the hospital in St. Louis.  In a way the memory hole has been one of the hardest parts of the ordeal to overcome; I had no way of associating the things I'd heard and read about what happened with how I felt and what I remembered.  It's quite disorienting.

It's also very frustrating to go that far and not really learn anything about what does or doesn't await us on the other side.

@midmo

That could very well be, more than likely IMHO.  I've had a lot of memory issues since then, a lot of things had to reconnect in my head.  I still have problems with some things, like "processes".  Kind of hard to explain, but it's like I know all the pieces and parts of something I used to do (like cutting out something on a CNC machine, for example), but it's hard for me to connect them together.  I know I need to do this and that and this and that, but not necessarily what order they come in.  And if I have to cut out two of them, I have to do it all over again for the second one... like I already forgot how from 15 minutes ago.

There's just a lot of stuff that goes on in our heads that we aren't really consciously aware of.  Just like breathing is automatic, so are some parts of "thinking".  Imagine having to concentrate on breathing... sometimes that's what it's like for me thinking.  I have to deliberately think about thinking, more or less.  Kind of hard to explain; one of those things you don't miss or even know about until it's gone.

All I can say is that it's a good thing I started out so much smarter than everybody else.

I think John is just trying to be relevant.  When faced with that situation, I suspect one will simply know.   and even without scripture making multiple mentions of light relating to God, I'd rather be in light than darkness.

There are so many angry / empty / downright manipulative people that seem so vested in leading others astray, with really no vested interest or benefit other than to have them suffer similarly - it only reinforces the urgency of our having faith in God and the temptations of evil.

It's like the spiritual equivalent of a meth head: consume, destroy, and salt the earth before they die in agony.

The Egg
By: Andy Weir
Cosmic egg | From the blog of Nicholas C. Rossis, author of science fiction, the Pearseus epic fantasy series and children's bookYou were on your way home when you died.

It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.

And that’s when you met me.

“What… what happened?” You asked. “Where am I?”

“You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. No point in mincing words.

“There was a… a truck and it was skidding…”

“Yup,” I said.

“I… I died?”

“Yup. But don’t feel bad about it. Everyone dies,” I said.

You looked around. There was nothingness. Just you and me. “What is this place?” You asked. “Is this the afterlife?”

“More or less,” I said.

“Are you god?” You asked.

“Yup,” I replied. “I’m God.”

“My kids… my wife,” you said.

“What about them?”

“Will they be all right?”

“That’s what I like to see,” I said. “You just died and your main concern is for your family. That’s good stuff right there.”

You looked at me with fascination. To you, I didn’t look like God. I just looked like some man. Or possibly a woman. Some vague authority figure, maybe. More of a grammar school teacher than the almighty.

“Don’t worry,” I said. “They’ll be fine. Your kids will remember you as perfect in every way. They didn’t have time to grow contempt for you. Your wife will cry on the outside, but will be secretly relieved. To be fair, your marriage was falling apart. If it’s any consolation, she’ll feel very guilty for feeling relieved.”

“Oh,” you said. “So what happens now? Do I go to heaven or hell or something?”

“Neither,” I said. “You’ll be reincarnated.”

“Ah,” you said. “So the Hindus were right,”

“All religions are right in their own way,” I said. “Walk with me.”

You followed along as we strode through the void. “Where are we going?”

“Nowhere in particular,” I said. “It’s just nice to walk while we talk.”

“So what’s the point, then?” You asked. “When I get reborn, I’ll just be a blank slate, right? A baby. So all my experiences and everything I did in this life won’t matter.”

“Not so!” I said. “You have within you all the knowledge and experiences of all your past lives. You just don’t remember them right now.”

I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. “Your soul is more magnificent, beautiful, and gigantic than you can possibly imagine. A human mind can only contain a tiny fraction of what you are. It’s like sticking your finger in a glass of water to see if it’s hot or cold. You put a tiny part of yourself into the vessel, and when you bring it back out, you’ve gained all the experiences it had.

“You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. If we hung out here for long enough, you’d start remembering everything. But there’s no point to doing that between each life.”

“How many times have I been reincarnated, then?”

“Oh lots. Lots and lots. An in to lots of different lives.” I said. “This time around, you’ll be a Chinese peasant girl in 540 AD.”

“Wait, what?” You stammered. “You’re sending me back in time?”

“Well, I guess technically. Time, as you know it, only exists in your universe. Things are different where I come from.”

“Where you come from?” You said.

“Oh sure,” I explained “I come from somewhere. Somewhere else. And there are others like me. I know you’ll want to know what it’s like there, but honestly you wouldn’t understand.”

“Oh,” you said, a little let down. “But wait. If I get reincarnated to other places in time, I could have interacted with myself at some point.”

“Sure. Happens all the time. And with both lives only aware of their own lifespan you don’t even know it’s happening.”

“So what’s the point of it all?”

“Seriously?” I asked. “Seriously? You’re asking me for the meaning of life? Isn’t that a little stereotypical?”

“Well it’s a reasonable question,” you persisted.

I looked you in the eye. “The meaning of life, the reason I made this whole universe, is for you to mature.”

“You mean mankind? You want us to mature?”

“No, just you. I made this whole universe for you. With each new life you grow and mature and become a larger and greater intellect.”

“Just me? What about everyone else?”

“There is no one else,” I said. “In this universe, there’s just you and me.”

You stared blankly at me. “But all the people on earth…”

“All you. Different incarnations of you.”

“Wait. I’m everyone!?”

“Now you’re getting it,” I said, with a congratulatory slap on the back.

“I’m every human being who ever lived?”

“Or who will ever live, yes.”

“I’m Abraham Lincoln?”

“And you’re John Wilkes Booth, too,” I added.

“I’m Hitler?” You said, appalled.

“And you’re the millions he killed.”

“I’m Jesus?”

“And you’re everyone who followed him.”

You fell silent.

“Every time you victimized someone,” I said, “you were victimizing yourself. Every act of kindness you’ve done, you’ve done to yourself. Every happy and sad moment ever experienced by any human was, or will be, experienced by you.”

You thought for a long time.

“Why?” You asked me. “Why do all this?”

“Because someday, you will become like me. Because that’s what you are. You’re one of my kind. You’re my child.”

“Whoa,” you said, incredulous. “You mean I’m a god?”

“No. Not yet. You’re a fetus. You’re still growing. Once you’ve lived every human life throughout all time, you will have grown enough to be born.”

“So the whole universe,” you said, “it’s just…”

“An egg,” I answered. “Now it’s time for you to move on to your next life.”

And I sent you on your way.

Hospice RN here.
There have been cases where as a patient passed away that lights appeared in the room, circled the patient, and disappeared as the patient passed.
Have seen a patient come out the room to go down the hall, the other nurse & I jumped up to get her to prevent a fall, she was gone, and we dashed into the room. The 3 daughters were crying as the patient had just passed.
At that hospital, there were 2 suites where hospice patients were typically assigned. It was always great fun to watch new housekeepers go into those rooms for an extended break. We would break out in laughter as they come out screaming at something or someone would appear behind them to touch them.

More convincing that there is an afterlife are the experiences that people have when they remember their prior lives.

Two examples:

The young girl from India that when only 3 or 4 years old told her mother what her real name was (In a prior life) and that she lived in a town 30 or so miles away.  Her mother thought she was nuts. This went on for many years until she was older and then they went to the town for an arranged visit with the family from her prior life.  When she walked into their living room she knew every person.  She then told each person stories about their interaction in her prior life.  They were spot on.  There is no way it could have been fabricated.

The second story is on The William Shatner Unexplained Show and it involves a young British girl who early in her life had a head injury.  She then claimed that she was an Egyptian Priestess in a prior life.  Later she was taken to Egypt and she went to a specific building and said that she was there when the building was constructed.  She showed them were secret rooms were and was able to read the hieroglyphics on the wall better than the experts could.  I think she stayed in Egypt and became the building museum director.

This shit is real and the only conclusion that can be reached is there is life after death.

Something similar when I worked long-term:

Nurse and I heard something fall in an old woman’s room. We go in and some of her belongings were on the floor, however she was laying in bed and obviously didn’t get up to knock the items off her shelf. She said it was her husband and that he did it because she wouldn’t go with him-he was mad. Her husband was long dead.

We’re sitting at the nurses station and I’m charting and the nurse jumps up and starts walking fast calling the woman’s name. She was walking down the hall. However, she was actually dead in her room. She decided to go with her husband after all.

There was a patient that passed away on our floor and we would repeatedly see ‘him’ walk to the elevator lobby to disappear.
There was an angry man that passed in one of the 2 hospice suites that would appear to employees with a menacing demeanor.
My paternal grandmother told of a woman that passed away in her neighborhood during the 1930’s. This was before AC and all the windows were open. This woman was big into holding seances and reading tarot cards. She died at home of kidney failure. Grandmother said she screamed for several days at the top of her lungs that the Hounds of Hell were tearing her flesh until she finally passed.
My mother tells that as her grandmother was dying in bed, she was waving her arm as if to move a curtain. Telling her husband to “Look! It is as beautiful as they say it is!” Said this several times, then expired.
